So, here is my dv chaos lord, but I can't get the shading and highlights right on his cloak, could anyone suggest how I could improve it?

Simplest method: Layer, wash, drybrush.

Layer the base color down, then wash the entire thing down darker (in your case, use Biel-tan green or something similar). Then take a lighter color and slowly work up highlights through drybrushing across the tops of the folds. I'd say go with Loren Forest and go up from there to paler colors. Option B is to go bright on the colors (Warpstone, etc).

I've got some models, but the only pics I have atm really suck.

Here, we have Loren Forest -> Biel-Tan Green (wash) -> Straken Green (drybrush)

Well, there's a slight risk of gluing something together with it. Only slight, mind.

My only problems are A. I don't own many colours, I mix my own. And B. I've already finished the rest of the model and don't want to ruin it with drybrushing :/

I've tried washing it, I've tried layering and I can't blend. I'm really stuck here.

Wash with Green in the lowered areas of the cloak, edge highlight the raised "lip" at the top of each fold. The edge highlight the edges of the cloak. Use a brighter green than what you use for the cloak.

Well this is what it looks like after a black wash and a drybrush. Unfortunately I can't do that on the front.

It honestly looks great for just a black wash and dry brushing.

On a cloak, you can edge highlight with a lighter color.

Black washes tend to make the model look muddy when you actually just want a darker/deeper version of the same color.

Darken your green paint by by about 30% and thin it out with a medium (making a wash). Wash the robes.

Then take the original paint color, lighten it by around 30%, and carefully edge highlight (paint the upper creases). Lighten that paint again by another 30% and paint over a smaller area.

You can replace the careful lining with drybrushing if you have good control and a small brush (I find it easier to drybrush areas like that, but I am apparently very good with control with drybrushing).

Luckily I found my medium drybrush. Do you guys think the green cloak works with the thousand sons style blue?

I actually just finished painting this guy in a Thousand Sons blue a couple of days ago haha.

It has been YEARS since I last painted and I feel your pain with the cape. It was a pain in the butt. I went for a nice cream/tan colour though so I can't help much with the green but it looks like you are on the right track. Though, personally I think that blue and green do not compliment each other that well in any situation.

Another thing - the symbols on the cape (front and back) were more difficult than I was expecting. Unfortunately I decided that it actually looked better in the same colour as the rest of it and had to paint back over the bronze I added to it... some simple highlights might be easier and better looking for your iconography also.
