Hey everybody. Just wanted to showcase my completed lava table.

This Piece took me quite a while - just getting the materials took long enough - but I'm quite happy with it. It is currently for sale on eBay so if you guys are interested check it out by searching 'Warhammer Terrain Lava Table'.
But I'm not here to boost my views just wanted to showcase my project and see what kind of feedback I get, so any advice is welcome and if you lot have any questions go ahead and fire away.

A standard construction of 6: 600mm (2ft) x 600mm (2ft) modular boards. 2 Of the boards have corner hills that fit together, i feel this adds extra to the board instead of the completely (boring) flat terrain. Simple sand texture with different layers of brushing and spray painting for the grey ashen look and caulk for the lava. Personally i really like to look of the caulk texture and preach the versatility of the product (cheap as well ). Simply 'gun' it on mess it up with a paintbrush and there you have it. Coats of red, yellow and then black to top creates a molten look. I went a bit of a different way with painting the lava i decided to paint it orange first (Which looked ghastly) but decided to wash it pale yellow (which looked not so ghastly) then the standard fire colors.

But anyway that's enough from me,
Thanks for your time.

P.s Sorry for some of the images, just trying to get used to the cameras focus.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Looks pretty cool, though it would have been good to see a few more different levels - a few "beaches" next to the lava streams etc...

It looks really good! I think adding a gloss varnish to the lava would make it even better.

Very nicely done! How can infantry move from one platform to the next?

I think the lava could do with a glossy finish? Depends if you want to look like it's flowing though!

What did you use to get the texture on the platforms?

Very good, echo the gloss on the lava though, and I think maybe it could do with few varying width bridges to create bottlenecks and passing points (they would make good objectives too)

The bridges would be very cool!

Bridges or fallen rock platforms are a good idea so will defiantly spend time working on them.
In regards to gloss i was worried it will look to liquid (if that makes sense ). However I'm kind of persuaded to try it out, just a simple varnish i think.

Thanks for the positive feedback and suggestions.

The gloss would look good if you did it before the black cool crust layer is painted. I would also have left more white showing through to make the lava look hotter.

Hotter lava is also typically runnier, so I would try smoothing out the central parts of the streams to imitate the fast flowing lava running down the centre of the channel. Adding hot white bubbles to this can also look great.

I will have to do another lava board in the future and incorporate everyone's ideas. So keep an eye out for more threads in the future.

Great looking stuff, though I second the bridges/varying levels and/or beaches.

Great stuff!

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!
