Subject: Magic the Gathering : strategy board game
Today during the Pro Tour: Khans of Tarkir broadcast an advertisement ran informing the world that the Magic: The Gathering Strategy Board game is coming. The only information released was a date (October 16, 2014) and a location, Essen.
Essen is the location of Internationale Spieltage SPIEL, an annual gaming conventions of great import. This seems like a perfect place to announce a new game. The SPIEL website can be found here.
This early tweet from Essen Spiel shows an iPad set to show a video next to a Chandra mini. We will have more information as it made available.

I felt that when they started following a certain few planeswalkers that the plots of the settings just started getting janky. Time Spiral had the last good plotline IMO. Lorwyn started of good, but the Shadowmoore books ruined it.
A board game seems a little odd to me for Magic. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.
Wizards have revealed the Magic: The Gathering Strategy Board Game, hex-based miniatures game with modular terrain where you play as a Planeswalker.
The team behind Risk Legacy and Heroscape are helping with the design, and the aim is to create a 2-5 player game based on key M:TG mechanics. Here’s the official blurb:
In the Magic: The Gathering Strategy Board Game, players customize the battlefield by designing the map then placing terrain and powerful gylphs. Then players choose one of five different Planeswalkers and move their figure and unique creature squads around the map in a race to out-maneuver opponents and gain tactical advantages! Cast devastating spells, summon powerful squads, and tap into your unique Planeswalker abilities to defeat your opponents. Be the last Planeswalker standing to win!
The game is set in the “mana-rich world of Shandalar” and stars five Planeswalkers, only four of whom have been revealed: Chandra Nalaar, Jace Beleren, Nissa Revane and Liliana Vess. The white Planeswalker is as yet unknown. Here’s some pics:

Jace: An Emo Sarcastic A-Hole who will smack talk even Magic Cthulhu.
Chandra: Violence/Fire Solves EVERYTHING.
Nissa: ????
Liliana: Ends justify the means.

Tell me more about Garruk or Anaji. Those are the two I like the look of the best!

Ajani may be the white planeswalker, but with Nissa as the green walker Garruk is out. Probably going to be the Paladin lady I'm guessing. Don't know why I've blanked her name...
They've confirmed all but the white planeswlalker. I suppose Garruk could be a nonplayer character, but he won't be on the cover at least.

Garruk is a hunter, living basically on what he can kill to eat. He also pretty much tracks down and finds the biggest creatures he can find for sport; the Magic Cthulhu storyline had the first time you see him is he's going toe to toe with worms the size of skyscrapers.
Ajani is, to me at least, the "Big Brother" character; he's hot-headed at times (His Red/White variant is him out to basically kill EVERYONE), but he's always level headed enough to know only to punish those who did the wrong. He's also a friend of Elspeth's and acts as her big brother type figure.

With a year till release I'm going to guess more planswalkers will be added... This is a preview.
More than one planeswalker per colour could be in the box on release as they control the same magic.
Panic...
Except they don't;
Using Red for instance, Chandra controls mostly fire, Koth controls Earth/Magma, and Tibalt is insanity/pain unleashed. Black has Liliana who is absolute power at all costs, Sorin whose a "Big Picture" Vampire, fully capable of putting his own kind on the defensive to ensure their food source stays alive, and Ashiok pretty much eats people's minds (mind you, he/she/it's U/B)

Elspeth.
I'm intrigued by there being a Magic boardgame, but suspect that unless it is received with rave reviews, I'll probably end up skipping it along with other things I'm interested in due to "not enough time to even play all the stuff we have, let alone adding more to the pile".
