Okay, first don't even mention mold lines...these are some of my first models I bought and I built them badly. I just repainted them to try out new techniques. In specific I am trying out glow effects for the rods, wires, and eyes. It also is my first attempt at OSL and I'm not thrilled but it's a start.

Honest feedback please, along with how to fix the mistakes.

Hard to really tell from the pics. I think your paint might be a bit too thick. Other then that, Slap a wash on em.

(As for the paint being thick, like I said, these are old models being used for trying out painting techniques...I didn't strip them before re-priming and painting...so I expected them to be a bit thick)

A great first start, bud, I really wish I could show you some of my early models, but rest assured they were worse than what you've got. Did you use a metal spray paint to basecoat these? If you did, never do that again, I did it to try and save time with my first monolith and it looked terrible. Basecoat black, dry brush leadbelcher, wash in nuln oil or agrax earthshade (RIP Devlan Mud, although a bird told me it might be coming back) depending on the look you want. Then edge highlight with runefang silver or ironbreaker and pick out the details.

Here is what I did:

Basecoat White
Shade black
Paint on leadbelcher
Spot wash black
Hightlight runefang steel
Spot wash black
Drybrush necron Compound

these were mostly done quick to test out the glow effects and OSL...things I need help on from what I see here.

Well I find the easiest and fastest way to get a half decent necron army is spray the whole dang thing black. Then a dirty ol drybrush of leadbelcher (or a bronze if you want bronze guys) then a slap on the nuln oil wash and a light dusty drybrush of runefang steel.

To do the glow just take some moot green and highlight the area are the rods or a drybrush (go light drybrush first then a little more and a little more until you get the brightness you want)

Necrons are the drybrush kings haha although I painted up my buddies necron overlord without drybrushing and took more time on it (best model in his army lol)

Yeah, I'm mostly doing my necron's now for practice and because that is what I have the most unpainted of. I'm going to try my hand at Ratkin soon, and my daughter is asked me to do a special genestealer for her.

Purple and blue with a heart and a skull on the base.
