This is a list I will be using for a large game against my 2 cousins in a few weeks
Will be up against half Necron half Chaos Marines force, so loads of warriors, Immortals, lords, Barges and a Stalker. Possibly a Monolith or even a Knight as well.
Chaos will be lots of marines, Termies, a Vindicator, Heldrake, maybe a mauler/forgefiend, no daemons that i know of, etc.
We're keeping our lists a surprise, so i suppose i could come up against absolutely anything

any thoughts on tactics etc would be greatly appreciated.
Like the thought of 2 Scout squads but just realised i could take out the HB scouts and upgrade to a Chapter Master? Is it worth it?

Well, at 3500 point I would try the Chapter Master Uberwarrior build, to go with Kor'sarro and a Command Squad with an Apothecary. Arti armor, Bike, TH or Burning Blade, Shield Eternal, Meltabombs for 2+/3++, 3+ Cover Jinking and FNP goodness. Obviously with WS CT or he'll get sniped.
I'd put the TH/SS termies and the Dreddy in the Stormraven, just to use its transport capabilities, but i don't know if that keeps the Stormwing formation legal.

I've just been mulling it over actually and i agree abou the chapter master. im going to take the 83 pt scouts out plus the power weapons on the biker sgts (i think they're illegal anyway with combis as well - woops!). gonna go with chapter master termie with burning blade and primarchs wrath. and yes the termies and dredd and chapter master are going in stormraven, it doesn't mess up the formation.
don't understand where FNP comes from tho?

Sorry just seen you said with Commsquad with Apothecary thats where you get FNP.
tried a comm squad once vs necrons they got absolutely hammered by some flayed ones, havent used them since. daft since iv got 3 built!
Also i don't know what id take out to make room

Usually for WS I kit them with BIke, Apothecary, 4x Grav Guns and a couple of Stormshields for good measure. You can use the Concussive rule of the grav to dumb out a MC/HQ then charge it with the Chapter Master and Kor'sarro to kill it off. Or charge also with termies, blood is pretty assured.

Never kit bikes for assault, despite the HoW they're far better at shooting. treat them as a mini-vehicles squad.

The Sternguard has a drop pod, right???

Why did you put RG tacs with HB and IF tacs with MM?
Usually IF players spam HBs on tacticals for Bolter Drill

Also, against necrons/CSM you want to have something to go past that armor save.I'd load up on plasma as much as I can.

Lose the various special pistols, like plasma pistols on the assault marines. 15 pts to fire maybe twice isn't worth it. Maybe you can consider flamers...

some interesting points, especially about bikes i've never really looked at them that way before but it makes sense.
with regards to my tacticals, I put the HB ones as RG for the scout move to try and rush objectives to get some early victory points in. as for the IF Tac, that's my alpha strike melta pod squad with bolter drill for a bit more punch up close with rapid fire. they will be deep striking onto an objective or as close to the biggest enemy vehicle as poss. (not sure what that will be ) i only have one drop pod in my collection and no time or funds to get another one sorted (we're playing on Dec 13th). the sternguard were a last minute addition, i think i'll run them behind the bikes or rhinos to get them into range on turn 2 for termie hunting

good point about plasma, but iv only got 2 flamer jump packs built. maybe 2 of the Tacs would benefit from a plasgun each instead of the Assault squads?
Or even a 4Plasma cannon Dev squad instead of the sternguard?

Then switch the pod for the melta squad to the sternies, they reeeally need one! also give them combi-meltas or meltas, you can perform an even better alpha-strike! You can even manage to blow up a monolyth with all that melta!!
