It's December now, a time when many of us have a nice break from work. What better time to tackle a new project, and help the less fortunate...miniatures in our collections, the restic minis no one loves. Restic minis are warped, scarred and covered with detail-destroying mold lines. I propose we each choose a restic miniature we would otherwise never, ever finish, and find some way to make it fun again. Why let them languish in a drawer when you can make them an object of mirth?

I dug out my old Kara mini earlier and decided she needed more. Here are the before and after shots. Next, she will get a new close combat weapon, and perhaps a dash more bling.

If you join me and we keep this project going all month, I'll have no choice but to crack open my Mantic stash and plumb its fould depths in search of restic redemption.

Restic minis are not horcruxes; they don't count towards gamer immortality, so you might as well assemble them.

I admire your chutzpah, but do not have the bravery to joing you in this endeavor

I also have quite a few hand cast resin miniatures calling my name, and while they take a lot of care to assemble, I feel the end result is worth all the effort! Finally, other than some large monsters, I have sold any other restic models that I had, and luckily I did not have too many.

But again, props for taking on the challenge, and I look forward to seeing the results

I have no Restic miniatures but I love your idea. I'm "in" to watch this. Best of luck!

I will be looking forward on your progress, but shouldn't this be in the Project thread?

Thanks, guys. I do want this to be a fun collaboration.

I wanted it to be where the last Restic Knights thread was posted so the same group of enthusiastic people would see it.

I've given her a powered vibro-mace for maximum killfeths. I've also given her a close quarters submachine gun on one hand and an elevated hardpoint on her back. Next: an smg for her other hand and some more dakka. I think a pair of WGF Shock Troop railguns will look good up there, but I am open to suggestions.

I'd post something here. I've been meaning to try and restore/salvage my own Kara after seeing some of Bob's earlier work, but I haven't painted in 9 weeks now, and have no desire at all to pick up a brush.

Hopefully I'll get interested again in January, when I get my Annual leave and a bit of a rest (after the Christmas week clusterfeth).

I will say that adding those horns and the central spike has started to give your model a Japanese feel to it, rather than German.

So... missile racks, then?

Now that you mention it, it does look like it should be piloted by a teenage boy against an army of kaiju.

Here's an update that had to wait for some slight camera repair. I still want to do more with the shoulder cannon, but then I don't know what else to add.

Except for the serrated blade on the cod piece. Probably won't be able to stop myself.

I'd watch that movie!

My first contribution:

Mantic paladin legs and torso and arms, WGF hoplite shield and head standing next to one of his painted (and headswapped) brother.

My three year old making them "fight" making "ting, ting" noises and making his father nervous.

More to come!

That Hoplite head looks really menacing on that paladin. I also love what you did with the sword. The shield is good, but I think it might be a little plain on a guy with such elaborate armor. I wonder if a GW shield icon would fit on the middle of it?

What head did you use on the painted one? He looks like a boss. Nice paint job, too.

And it is always nice to see the little ones getting involved. (With sound effects!). I gave my three year old some reaper bones guys and some proxie troops, but now he just uses the sedition wars doors as barricades for his hot wheels.

Thanks! I'm having lots of fun. It has always bothered me that the Mantic Paladin swords didn't have crossguards. I think I will likely use a transfer on the shield, so it will look suitably elaborate. I'll look at what shield icons I have though and see if any catch my eye.

The head on the painted guy is a WGF german cavalry topknot head with a sculpted hood. They are some of my favorite heads because they are so versatile and slightly 'elvish' despite the soft details.

My three year old has commandeered about half of my painting desk. He has been painting some Mantic Men at Arms, and mostly spends lots of time making the hardier figures in my collection "fight" and "shoot bad guys."

Here is my next restic rescue conversion:

A mighty Centorc!

Scale

Captive human. I'll be sculpting some ropes, etc. lashing this guy to the Centorc's back.

First of all, that looks awesome. I didn't know that centorcs were a thing that existed, but that turned out badass. I may steal that idea using a Shieldwolf orc...

Was that a Basilean horse? And what are you planning to do with the wolfen's head?

And a suitable frou-frou transfer would probably complement the ornate armor pretty well. That knight should have the Mona Lisa of shields.

Thanks! I didn't know that centorcs existed either until I plopped the wolfen body on the Mantic Basilean horse and started looking for a head. I am really pleased with how it is turning out, and may make a unit of three for all of the imaginary games I get to play in my imaginary free time. If it was priming season here is CA I would prime and paint him up.
