Subject: Warhammer Quest Announced for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, Launching January 7th, 2015 on Steam
[This unedited press release is made available courtesy of Gamasutra and its partnership with notable game PR-related resource GamesPress.]
December 15th 2014 -- Independent publisher Chilled Mouse today announced a partnership with Games Workshop and Rodeo Games to bring Warhammer Quest to Windows PC, Mac and Linux via digital distribution service Steam on January 7th, 2015. Based on the classic Games Workshop board game, and set in the Warhammer Fantasy world, the turn based strategy game allows players to control a team of heroes and explore hidden dungeons around the borders of the Empire in a mix of adventure, strategy and role-playing.
“As massive fans of the Warhammer universe, we have spent our development time working with Rodeo Games and focusing on what made Warhammer Quest such a great table top game,” said Ian Baverstock, Director of Chilled Mouse. “With truly unique hero characters, epic role-playing action, awesome loot and randomly generated dungeons, Warhammer Quest is a true digital incarnation of its namesake”.
Lead a party of brave adventurers through the dangerous winding dungeons of the Warhammer world in the search for wealth and glory, as players uncover and explore new settlements. In their quest for legendary weapons, players encounter enemies including evil Night Goblins, dangerous Orcs, gigantic River Trolls and hordes of the evil Skaven, hellbent on destroying the band of adventurers.
Through encounters and exploration, heroes level up their skills and quickly gain new abilities, spells and blessings as they battle it out to become one of the Heroes of Legend and fight such devilish foes playing as the Marauder, Wood Elf Waywatcher, Dwarf IronBreaker and the Grey Wizard.
Available on January 7th, 2015, through Steam for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, Warhammer Quest will be available at £10.99, €14.99, $14.99 including three areas and the Vampire and Zombie content pack. The Deluxe edition, priced at £19.99, €27.99, $29.99, includes all of the in-game content available in the standard edition plus more than £19, €25, $27 of additional extras. Warhammer Quest is available through on Steam Pre-Order: http://store.steampowered.com/app/326670/

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Single player only, looks like a fixed "top-down" camera and the trailer features "menus" to pad its length rather than more gameplay.
I love WHQ; my copy sits (all minis fully painted) on my shelves next to more modern games that it still compares favourably with, but this does not fill me with any kind of anticipation. If this were an app, capturing the "essence" of the game for a touchscreen, the way it's presented would be forgiveable. £12 for a 20 year old game in digital format seems steep, there'd better be some juicy new features to justify the price.

I would've considered it if they were doing this for Android. Or an Xbox version. Or a PSN version. Why PC? Most people who would've run it on a PC probably already ran it on their apple stuff.
But it's GW, and their decisions on how they do things are obviously far beyond what my mere mortal brain may handle.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
I LOVED the iOS one immensely. I was just thinking that I would love a port of it to PC, so this is Christmas-come-early for me!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Still a lot of folks here not realizing that this game is out, and proven to be pretty damn terrific.
I've logged 75+ hours into the iOS version, and can say that like Bloodbowl, it is a very obtuse version of the board-game, meaning if you know the game, you're in heaven, but if you haven't played it before, it will seem unfamiliar and barely explained.
Any way, I am just glad more folks will be able to play it, and i'll happily double-dip to play this on the big-screen, even with no other adjustments.

I was hoping this would be ported to PC. Question for those who have played the I-pad version: the Steam page for this game says
"The standard edition includes 4 heroes, 3 game areas and a special Vampires and Zombies tileset & enemies pack. There are additional in game options to buy up to 7 more heroes, 5 extra weapons and a Skeletons & Necromancers enemy pack. The Warhammer Quest Deluxe pack includes all of these extras." Are the seven extra characters worth paying extra for? Also, there's quite a debate on the game's Steam forum about microtransactions to buy gold to level up. Are MTs a necessary part of game progression?
I easily played the game without microtransactions in the sense of gold. I got enough gold to lvl my characters. You might not be able to buy some of the stuff from the vendors but I could get decent equip from quests and that's why I play the game after all .
I did buy all the addon characters and the additional weapons. I really liked em. The optional characters add some more flavor to the game. Witch hunter is just a whole lot more stylish than a way watcher

I never bought it before because I'm not a big fan of iPad. Nothing really "wrong" with them, but they haven't changed all that much, and Surface Pro 3 is just worlds better.
Has anyone tried the Space Hulk Ascension game? I picked it up on boxing day sales (Steam, I think), but I haven't even installed it.

The app is excellent to be fair, but i'm not seeing any value add in the port to PC.
Fully agree, absolutely loved the ipad version but without paying for the delux version at 20 quid +, I cant see the added value for a PC port.
Its a great little app game, great for plane journeys or long trips. Sitting on the PC with it. Hmmm.
In addition, I found after you max out the first 4 characters the content dosent scale. I picked up the Skaven expansion close to the cap and slaughtered through it so caveat emptor in that respect.

I bought it, and I've played it to about Level 3. It's not bad for a casual game, and there's the beginnings of a solid PC conversion of the original material in there, but it has its problems and lacks polish. I posted a review on Steam if anyone's interested. I also see that ,in response to user feedback, the developers seem to be on the verge of removing the microtransactions for purchasing gold. I know that the MTs were a barrier to purchase for some people.

Yes, the Orcs are mostly silent when they die, I think I've only heard the death audio play once. It's things like this that they need to tighten their QA testing on. Although in all fairness their QA is no worse than that of many of the big studios these days...
The ipad version is great, a fun little way to kill many hours. Sure wish they would re-release the board game (with updated minis). I've still got my copy, but never bought any of the expansion characters for the game (but I apparently bought some of the treasure expansions).
