Just sharing my latest project. I hope it gives someone some ideas.

Termites (count as drop pods). I considered making the old school cone drill on the top (I do like that even though it looks a bit toyish) but in the end the hades breaching drill was easy enough to cast and four of them fit perfectly on the sauce bottle. All the casting is done with oyumaru and easycast resin. There's a lot of blank space on the models. I tried with pipes, panels and more bling but simple ended up looking best in my eye.

I play an Admech army - as count as Inquisition with Iron Hands or Imperial guard allies.

p.s. I know my skills are not awesome - no super negative comments please.

They look amazing. After you were done is there anything you wished you had done differently?

Cheers Zerib.

Yes, I would mocked up a better prototype before making the parts for 5 termites. I'm 50-50 on whether the blank space is good, or should have been detailed.

Also think the border of the top panels should be a mm thinner and the dirt should travel up the walls a bit on the base.

Paint job wise, they should be all scratched up and covered in mud but the rest of my vehicles are this kind of red and black/gun metal. I'm a bit scared painting past this point.

I like them. I have been considering doing a similar conversion for drop pods. And I must agree, scratches and fresh wear from subterranean travel is much needed.

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

I like them a lot, but I would put them at an angle coming out of the ground. They look a bit… ketchup bottlish. Otherwise top notch!

Nice work. Good use of the Hades drill bits.

Took one look at them and instantly saw the sauce bottles.

You are a lot better then you say you are, I love termites and similar tunneling vehicles, they add a little fun to a rather dark setting

Also, they look so freaking cool, I need to learn how to make resin casts some day...

Thanks everyone! I was a bit nervous posting. This was my first attempt at something big.

Mad Eddy, casting is very easy. Getting 90% quality of the original is about as good as it gets though.

If you want to make big pieces (like the drill arms), your'e looking at about 50AUD start up for a product called 'oyumaru' to run 3 or 4 moulds at a time. You can buy on ebay or other online shops. Check youtube for how to use it but in short it is soft when it's put in hot water and turns to hard rubber when its room temp.

The other ingredient is two part resin which is about 30AUD/litre but that makes sooo much. The smaller the item being copied, the less often you need to make fresh moulds - curing resin heat warps them a bit. Just put them in hot water and go step one again.

Oyumaru is 100% reusable and was invaluable for my admech army... Until all these exciting rumour started up anyway.

Thanks, I'll look into that, 90% is pretty good, at the moment I'm swamped in projects, not allowed to play with a long list of chemicals in the house and its too cold to work outside at the moment, so this summer will be fun...
