Finished the my other cerastus now I'm just waiting on my lancer!
This was my first attempt at A) Sculpting a cape B) Weathering C) Dirt kick up effect on the base D) Making a brand new base instead of the stock plastic one.

I dig the poses of the 2 knights, especially the castigator, but the cape is slowed, it makes the model feel small like a marine rather than a knight.

Slowed? Not sure I understand? Re**rded? (Plus the cape was a first attempt, I want to make the cloak thinner and more tattered next time around)
If they're looking more organic instead of large mecha of doom and sex then I'm headed in the right direction. I will probably buy another set of three and make those more doom and sex, but I wanted these to be more "Alive" thus the push for more fluid poses and capes... definitely capes.

I have to agree. Poses are nice but, the cape does not make it feel like it's big. Capes are sewn and I find it hard to believe anyone would take the time to sew one that big to fit on the back of a knight. Smoke coming out of the exhaust stacks would of gave you the same effect without the fabric.

Fireproof fabric my friend it's already a thing now ^_~
Knights ARE small aren't they? admittedly the cape is not done very well. But why not enhance the small agile humanoid side of them? Knights were made for that purpose right? (otherwise we already had the warhound). These were single pilot mechs, personal flair could be the sole motivation for having the cape. I'm intending for these to be a group of freelancers with like-minded but varying personalities involved.
But I will consider the smoke now that I've had a little bit more exp with my sculpley so look forward to it! And thanks for all the feedback!

I'm going to buck the trend here and say that I really like the cape. In a world with nipple armour, back banners that should stop people entering doors, corset armour, and armoured high heels a hand stiched cape for the pilot of a great and noble Knight from a grateful world saved by their actions is not unreasonable Or the cape is a Freeblade's extravagance to make him stand out.
Nice work on the base too, the Knight looks really dynamic.

Love the poses and bases, dislike the cape. Makes it seem more like a robot than a immense warmachine driven by a human pilot.

I mean to say I think the cape look dumb, damn the censor spell checks! I f you really want to have a cape, may I suggest a chain linked cape with hooks at the end with some xeno heads. This way the cape wouldn't be burned by its exhausts, and the helmets/heads keep the knight in scale. I'm not sure where to get the bits for the chain cape or, perhaps a real chain link.

My Gods, I love that cape so much. Look at that, with the cape and the pose it's anime quality over-the-top! I can actually imagine that thing running on a battlefield, dodging enemies and projectiles, sliding and shooting the enemy.
All of this, with a badass cape flowing in the wind.
LOVE the cape. LOVE the dynamic entry.

That cape makes it! I love the criticism concerning how it is stupid to have cloth that big.
Literally, in 40k there are some ships that have giant banners (the ones that are not meant to leave a planet's orbit.) Also, the Imperator titan with a cloth tabard?
I mean if you think about it, an Imperator's crotch tabard would engulf a knight titan.
So for a knight titan to have a cape totally works.
I may steal this idea.

when you put your stuff out there, you will be judged. It's not like I just said it looks stupid, I gave a reason for why I think it looks stupid. The creator can take my suggestion or not, I don't care, its his model. Do you rather people just pad you on the back for a job well done even if it isn't?

No, as this is the paint and modeling showcase. I was honestly surprised you wrote "slowed," though.
It's just something I don't expect on Dakka. It's a bit borderline with Rule #1. I'm not really going to dispute this (just look at the OT forum for phrasing), just the way you went about it. I wouldn't go about calling things "slowed," implying it's slowed. I've seen people call things stupid or dumb, just not in that matter. I would imagine "Hey, I don't see how that is realistic or possible." I'm disputing you giving reasons, just the way you went about it.
The reason I linked those pictures is because (and yes, I'm using this god awful phrase,) is that by your logic... the idea of using cloth that big is stupid.
You're arguing about a setting with banner poles, WW1 sponson setup on tanks when we no longer use that now, Space Marines who barely carry any ammo on them as models (when a modern U.S Marine is covered in pouches,) and lastly, giant titans walking around with banners that would be larger than a city block. I'd critique his painting technique, or the way the cloak was made. Not the idea. Otherwise, we could call Centurions or any outlandish idea (I'm looking at you, Grey Knights,) "slowed."
At the end of the day, YMMV with Toy Soldiers. Just pointing out you seem a bit salty today, no reason to grab your pitchfork over a model.
Edit: Ah, I see "slowed," is just a replacement word in the filter. Still, that kinda makes it worse.

First off that is tapestry/ banners for the most part on a Titan. That is also Not a CAPE. It really has nothing to do with size. Nor does it cover the exhaust ports etc. It's the OP's model we gave our opinions. The OP can do what he likes it's his/her model. Some like it some don't.

Hello Senpais,
First I would like to say, thanks for all the comments! Even the criticism.
I don't mind what if others dislike it or feel it takes from the kit, it's their opinion and I appreciate their honesty. They touch on a couple of things I worried about (burn holes, tearing, scale) I wish I could slap together a chainlink cape that would be sexy! Alas I don't have that level of competence yet (started the kit building and stuff at the end of Feb this year). I do want to redo his cape a little bit making it thinner and a bit more torn at the ends so it's a bit more realistic/grim. I really wish they made cerastus variants of the GW knights because I could really see some potential with cannon arms scaled to the cerastus chassis.
Alot of my inspiration comes from anime and armored core so I've always really loved hi velocity poses and armored heroes. None of the 40k seemed to give that to me until I found out about Cerastus Knights. After seeing so many non-posed I felt the need to break that mold.
I mentioned somewhere on dakka that I will make a more grim 40kish approach on my next set of Cerastus (sometime later this year) so look forward to it! Automatically Appended Next Post: Big Mac wrote:Flosshilde wrote: Big Mac wrote:I dig the poses of the 2 knights, especially the castigator, but the cape is slowed, it makes the model feel small like a marine rather than a knight.

I might have to pick up knitting and using magnet wire or armature wire to make a cape then form it to my cape armature to shape it.

I plan on trying to a pose similar to yours. I am so envious of the damn FW knights. Their posing options are great.
I've made it a goal of mine to take a GW knight and make him do a running shoulder bash. I hope I can pull it off.

I wish you much luck! Let me see it I might copy you as well ^_^ I'm currently working on my Gerantius but I've chopped the legs to hell and started making them "almost" as poseable as the cerastus; but I still need an idea for how I'll pose him.

Considering that forum is about FInished models. I'm not sure if it would be considered spam to post a picture of the cape redone? I hope not, but is it considered a WIP if you take before and after photos on the same thread? Both photos were at a finished state.
Anyways for those that were so concerned about my "fireproof cape of the titans" catching on fire or that fact that the rest of the model is weathered but the cape look practically new. I've redone the cape to give it a little more gritty battle-worn look, do not fret those that already liked the way it looked to begin with for I assure you this one looks even better!
The cape is now 2mm thick as opposed to the previous 4-5mm but with that there were some... issues... regarding the strength of the material so there are a few spots in the middle of the cape that required patching, hopefully it's not too terribly bad. I can't get a consistent thickness on the material due to how thin it is by hand. But I labored hard to try and make this work. Still no skulls and heads although If I could get some necron skulls ::hint hint wink wink:: they could probably work really well as the decorative clips that hold the cape to the shoulders and still look knightly and imperialistic.
Also if you think this looks good please vote I'd like to see this on the homepage if it's possible ^_^
NOTICE ME SENPAI!!!

Absolutely love it. I love capes and put them on pretty much everything. I've even been considering lately getting a cape to wear on my military dress uniform- just because they are awesome. (Just to be fair, no one has worn a cape in decades, and they are seen as stupid as hell- but I'm still considering it).
Anyways, great job on the first cape. Even better job on the second one though. It looks very realistic and well done. What is it sculpted out of?

My favorite is the picture in the middle where the Acheron flamed lines up with the fluorescent lift in the background. Just a pew pew sounds.
The cape looks fantastic though. I really like the dynamic poses you did with both of your models.

Love the poses.
Not sure how I feel about the cape, part of me thinks it looks totally awesome, but part of me feels it's not needed and distracts from what's you've achived on the base and nice paintjob.
Can you post a pic without the cloak, just to see how it looks?
The both cloaks are finely sculpted though.
