Or is it just me? Seems like this one is going to be an interesting challenge.

Things I'm thinking about:

* New scatter bikes are worse than old wave-serpents against T5/6 stuff with better cover than armour. Nice for Nids, who are a solid choice against Necron Decurion.
* The common build people are talking about with bikes and wraithknights will be very vulnerable to certain Harlie/Dark Eldar allied builds which are already solid choices against the Necron Decurion.
* Being good against both of those is an interesting place to be right now.
* Drop Marines might be fun to pull out of mothballs (not played them in a year or so), have a look at how they can do against this. Some Cents in a loaned pod are always nice and should put the hurt on the big guy.
* Don't fancy trying to out biker them with my white scars
* Maybe I should have a crack with that scouting Taloi formation backed up by some Eldar of my own (Probably a bad plan this one, but cool)

So what interesting thoughts are others having about what might be good/fun to play against the new Eldar.

Please don't bother replying to complain or to point out that you don't like playing against/with strong lists. I'm really creating this topic for people who do enjoy that sort of fun.

It'll be interesting for sure. My plan involves using melee Reavers to get up close and personal with them. I'd run the Corpsethief Claw with a Cronos in back to boost feel no pain.

I'm also looking forward to facing them with Tau.

Wraithguard with WWP will die to a couple of IA intercepts and most of the stuff I field is both pretty durable vs bikes (broadsides, riptides and vehicles)as well as able to hit back pretty hard.

That beung said, I'm also looking forward to possibly replacing my Fish of Fury part of the army with an Windrider Host.

I like melee reavers as well, tend to deepstrike mine with a WWP and psyker support from allies.

Hadn't thought much about Tau against them/with them. What do you think is going to be cause the most hassle for Tau?

Volume of fire says otherwise. Or are you saying that Eldar Jetbike Spam will be better then Wave Serpent Spam for Eldar players? The "Net-List of Fear/whining/Broken Game" is the 30-40 Jetbikes, 3-4 Wave Serpents with Wraithguard and backed up with Wratihknights. Personally, I think there are probably better lists in the codex, and that this is just the classic knee jerk reaction to some leaked rumors and pages.

* The common build people are talking about with bikes and wraithknights will be very vulnerable to certain Harlie/Dark Eldar allied builds which are already solid choices against the Necron Decurion.

Ya know the Wraithknight is a Gargantuan Monstrous Creature now, right? Can only be hurt on a 6 by weapons that ignore your toughness (except a D-weapon)? It also has FnP of 5++? Taking the WK with a D-Sword and Shimmershield is a viable, and even desirable build now. The Decurion's biggest advantage is in it's resiliency- all those FnP's and such. It doesn't have as much offensive punch as it could, but like I said, it's hard to take down. The Eldar ranged D-weapons are just going to wreck this formation. It'll be interesting to see what the Necron response will be.

What Harlie/Dark Eldar builds are good against Necrons?

* Being good against both of those is an interesting place to be right now.

No, not really. The Decurion can't even come close to the potential firepower the new Eldar will be able to pour out. Ranged D...

* Drop Marines might be fun to pull out of mothballs (not played them in a year or so), have a look at how they can do against this. Some Cents in a loaned pod are always nice and should put the hurt on the big guy.

As a suicide squad, sure. Depends on the WK load out. If it has the D-sword and Shield, ain't gonna happen unless you bring an entire squad of Cents. And then you are throwing away a unit that costs more points then the WK to kill it, and the Eldar player will have no problems removing that Cent-Star off the table next turn. Any other squad in a Drop Pod just won't be able to match the fire power the Eldar have. You'll be able to remove enough models to force a leadership test I'm sure, but the return fire...

* Don't fancy trying to out biker them with my white scars

And yet, this might just be one of the best builds to take.

* Maybe I should have a crack with that scouting Taloi formation backed up by some Eldar of my own (Probably a bad plan this one, but cool)

Sounds interesting! Let us know how it goes.

So what interesting thoughts are others having about what might be good/fun to play against the new Eldar.

I'm also looking forwards to challenge these new pointy-ears with my Tzeentch Daemons.

I've got a unit of 9 Screamers built already, and should jetbikes become really, really popular, then perhaps I might end up building the other 5 I've got currently laying around. It'll also give me a reason to pull out my Disc Tzherald again, as he'll be just plain nasty vs. any MSU Jetbike units with his potentially S6 shooting of his own.

My Flamers might decide to go back to being essentially MSU suicide squads of 3-4 models. Easy to drop into tight spaces, and 3-4 templates will again wreck smaller units. Just don't try them against T6 Wraith units for obvious reasons!

I might even drop the LoC in favour of a lower cost Prince, who can instead zoom about hitting expensive targets like MSU Jetbikes and Wraith units with Psy Shriek.

I've been having some decent success with the Soul Grinder sporting the Warp Gaze upgrade, as Prescience helps counter his lower BS3. Between that single big shot and his multi-shot S7, he can hopefully down a Wave Serpent or two.

The only big issues I'm seeing for Daemons right now is Wraithknights becoming a gargantuan creature... Though if worst comes to worst and some donkeycave decides to spam 3+ of the buggers, I guess there's always the old trick of slapping the Grimoire + Invis on the Str.D Bloodthirster?!

I'd be more excited about it, and I think in the competitive arena, pods might work, but I feel like the game will be something like this:

"I drop in next to your bikes and kill some. Do you fail leadership?"
-if yes: game continues on with roughly even chance of win/loss at that point.
-if no: "oh you passed them and zipped away from me, good game."

As an Ork player I honestly don't have any good options to deal with a jetbike list with D weapon support. I can't outshoot them, I don't see how I can catch them to get into CC before being shot to death, and vehicles will get murdered by the D weapons (RIP blitz brigade). Bike spam seems to be the only semi viable Ork option but I'm really unsure that Ork bikers can be effective enough against Eldar jet bikes to have much of a chance. Going 2nd is basically an auto lose vs that volume of shooting.

I haven't gotten enough table time in 7th and I've been losing to better-constructed lists anyway; given the number of Eldar players in my meta (few) the new book is likely to give me a reason to unmothball my old Aspect Warriors than anything else.

It is interesting to note that (at time of writing) over 50% of the responses are against playing eldar.
Now I am REALLY miffed at what GW have done with this dex. But it would be interesting (for a short while) to see how quickly they can table certain lists. If you survive past turn 4 you won a moral victory or surviving past turn 3 for the draw. I'm honestly not joking by the way - it actually would be a new and different way to play, like survivor rounds on any computer game. And it would bring a challenge and suspense all of its own. Basically create the hardest non cron or other eldar list that you can think of to go against it and time it by turns.

The bikes may or may not be too bad (and I play orks btw). My basic plan is to start off by bringing three squads of 20 lootas and just spam firing into each unit forcing so many long ranged saves that they will either jink(and shoot like crap) or they will die to massed fire. The next step will be 3 squads of maxed out Tank bustas for those pretty wraith monstards. (The wraithknight has a 3+ right) Final step in plan is to bring ALL DA BOYZ. and give them shootas. I am also considering eavy armor to flip off the Elderp AP6. The plus is that the squads of lootas and tank bustas can just as easily handle wave serpent spam by forcing soooooo many saves and jinks that they will be burning wrecks in no time.

Also for tau just bring Ion heads and put seeker missiles on absolutely friggin everything. all that delicious cover ignoring S8 AP3 is just beautiful. Also stealth suits. Deep striking stealth. pitter pattering your gakky rear armor into nothing with up to 24 S5 shots. Or for lulz a couple naked suit squads to donkey punch your transports right in the arse with their S5 melee.(Don't forget your flamers for roasting those marshmallows inside the transports.)

Also the Onager Gauntlet for a quite literal Donkey punch. (just google Onager and you'll know what I'm talking about.)

I'm at about 80% sure that I won't be playing in next year's 400 pt Kill Team tournament at Adepticon. All Eldar Bikes, All the Time doesn't sound like fun to me.

I'll be sticking to Horus Heresy events until this gak blows over.

It's worth pointing out that, while almost 50% think it wouldn't be fun, the other 50% think it would either be fun or they'd stomp them. This poll should be redone a month after the codex has come out. Would be interesting.

I for one can't wait to play with the new codex. Wouldn't mind playing against it either!

The sign of a decently written codex isn't one where over half the fan base are against it though. A well written codex would have at least 80% (absolute minimum) willing to play against it. Still if we change the game style to 'survivor', where both players accept that it is very OP, then there is the potential for fun, over a limited time anyway.

I voted that it won't be much fun, because as much as I'd like to face a full-on aspect army, I know that just about EVERY Eldar army will include; a WK and at least one unit of Wraithguard in a WS. The rest of the army will vary, and I don't really think the 30-40 Scatbikes will every really materialize outside of the major tournament scene (and even then, it may not). Its those wraith units that are just going to be depressing to face, as they systemically erase key units in the early stages of the game, and I really don't have $400-700 bucks lying around to get some of the better Imperial Forgeworld superheavies.

Its just that like the WS before it, everybody will clamor to include at least one or two extra units of the new hotness, and given what a huge bargain those units are, I can't really blame them. Besides, its not like most Eldar players didn't have a WK and at least one unit of WG already.

I don't think it is going to be much different from the old codex for my IG. in fact with all those scatter bikes there is a chance games vs eldar will end sooner, and with both being unfun, the shorter game is better.

You really don't know that. You're making an assumption based on the internet hyperbole. I'm toying with picking up the new Eldar Dex, some swooping hawks, and a Farseer to Ally with my Dark Eldar just so I can actually do something about flyers besides ignore them. Aspect Warriors being buffed is only a good thing as it adds more diversity and better internal balance to the Dex.
