….. well, I may have gotten myself a bit confused about what these actually were, it seems we “may” be seeing these two as a combined set in some fashion, whether that’s as another standalone game or as a “starter/campaign” set is yet unclear, although I’m going to assume that these would be unusual choices for a starter box.

I can certainly see the logic in combining the Deathwatch and Genestealer Cult into a single product – they are perfect adversaries. One a small elite force of hunters, the other a large rabble of decievers hiding in the shadows. The bigger questiosn is whether this would show up initially as one of the “Assassin-style” board games with attached 40K rules, or as part of “Shield of Baal”/ “Stormclaw” style campaign box.

Hmm, I hope we haven't shifted from campaign box releases to wildly overpriced board games.

I don't think the Assassins game would have been overpriced if it had included decent Chaos models rather than almost entirely snap-fit monopose garbage. Most of the GW boxed sets have been fairly decently priced. Space Hulk was a decent value with all the models included, for example.

The assassins game was just gak because less than half the models were desirable, and only if you were interested in all four of the assassins.

if it's an add on sprue to Sternies. That would be great.

The assassins game is a great deal if you want the 4 assassins -- you basically get the game, a very nice Chaos Lord, and some old, crappy (but still useful) models for free. It's a lousy deal if you don't want at least 3 of the assassins. The game board is decent.

But, keep in mind, a lot of people wanted at least 1 of each assassin.

I'll be interested to see a Deathwatch Sternguard kit released. I've already got around 20 or so Deathwatch minis assembled and more than half of them painted now. I hope to see a Harlequin-esque codex released with them to give the Deathwatch some unique rules & wargear options as well (Relics perhaps).

Time will tell, though I'm very interested to see what future rumors will be added leading up to a release soon.

A decent release for the Genestealer Cult would go a long way to rekindling my interest in 40k. A campaign /starter akin to Death storm with new, good quality models Then codexes, other model releases, etc

This would be a great opportunity to do some fantastic standalone or conversion kits for the Hybrids.

Plus Death Watch are kind of cool.

I hope you're right. I couldn't take Genestealer Cults and Deathwatch being reduced to a couple of models in a shoddy board game that no one wants.

I did qualify "great deal" with a big IF -- that you wanted the assassins anyhow. The assassins could be up to $30, making them $120 for the set of 4 stuff for essentially $5. Even if the models are $25, you get all the stuff for $25, which is less than the price of the Chaos Lord.

Whether you think $100-$120 for 4 assassins is overpriced or not, *** if you were going to buy them anyhow ***, spending the extra $5-$25 to get an Chaos Lord model, plus some other usable stuff, and a board game is a great deal, for that $5-$25. As I said, if you weren't going to buy at least 3 of the assassins, it's a lousy deal.

And/but: Deathstorm is one of the best deals GW has ever had in terms of models you get for the money. But realistically, the only great models in the box for play value are Carnifex and Death Company (and those are for Blood Angels and Tyranids, two factions that seriously need help ). Maybe the Fragioso, if you really want to play one. Everything else is much more likely to sit on a shelf forever, though fun to model & paint.

The last paragraph in the OP is not from Hastings, better remove it or exclude it from the quote. I have a lot respect for Hastings, especially his openness about both what he has heard and that he may have misinterpreted it. That's how rumors should be dealt with.

The tagged on stuff from Birds in the Trees - I consider it pure fantasy. When did GW produce Space Marine upgrade parts like this? In 2005 with the 4th Ed Dark Angels? Lately they made entirely new kits in such cases, like the Blood Angels Tacticals and Terminators. I don't buy this at all. It is the same 'Yeah it makes sense so it must be true'-gak all over again - like those ridiculous plastic CSM Cult marine miniatures claims in 2012-2015 - never turning out. Berserkers on 'Molochs' in March? Where are they?

I think there won't be any new parts, just one of the 10-men Tactical boxed sets sold since 2013 painted in a Deathwatch scheme. If there is not a better source chiming in with info, I don't consider this anything to look for - as it won't happen anyway.

Interesting info from Warseer posted last night: Black Library was hiring authors in 2014 to write Deathwatch short stories. It is still on the BL website.

Currently I await a lot more from other infamous sources - posting the entire 1st edition Genestealer Cult product list as what's to come and adding some copy/pasted Compilation rules to it.

Sad Panda had pointed out that several of Hastings rumors are going to come in 2016. So it could be a long time until we get a game like this.

I'm not so sure, for a few reasons:

1. It's cheaper to add bits than to make all new sprues
2. GW is pretty good ad adding a sprue and calling it something else and selling it for more: for example, everything on the Rhino chassis other than the Rhino, or more recently, the new Knights.

I would also guess 5 man box like Sternguard or Death Company, rather than 10 man. If there are lots of loadout options available, it's unlikely to go to 10-man, and if they do, you end up with the problem where you don't have nearly enough weapons of the sort you really want :X

Thinking about it they could go the cheap way and sell a small bits sprue to go with their current cultists... that would be really annoying.

I'm VERY exited with the prospect of any form of genecult in the future, even if GW does no release exactly what I wished for.

Wasn't it a Hybrid? Just one plastic kit with those and a Clampack Magus and a Clampack 'Old Broodlord' would make this release a good start for a new Genestealer Cult range. Heck, they don't even need the latter and could just re-use the Deathstorm Broodlord.

There was one page of new fluff about Genestealer Cults in the Tyranid Invasion Swarms painting guide (p 35) about the Kraken splinter fleet Magalodon. Also a new artwork of a Magalodon Broodlord (p 37).

The campaign boxes they've been putting out haven't been great about including new models, aside from the HQs in each. For that reason alone, I'm kinda shakey on the idea of a Genestealer Cult/Deathwatch campaign box set.

I would be surprised if it were something as small as transfers, but Brother SRM makes a good point.

At least in the context of "what they've done in the past". It could be that they do the Genestealer Cult/Deathwatch thing as a pseudo-board game like we are seeing with the Assassins thing, or that they make it a new "limited time starter set" or any number of things.

Since Skitarii became a thing, I just don't know what to make of anything anymore.

I would NOT expect the "Broodbrothers" to be existing sprues.

They could have done that with Cultists for Chaos, but instead they made a new sprue for Dark Vengeance(and then later they cut that sprue up so that they could sell you generic autopistol/ccw and autogun Cultists)

Genestealers, yeah--you're pretty spot on about them likely just including the standard Genestealer sprue.

Where this becomes interesting is as to whether or not this is going to be a genuine "standalone" book. If it is, expect everything to be its own kit. They don't want to let you possibly find a cheaper alternative or have to tell someone who is interested in buying you a present via their webstore or one of their shops that "X is really a part of Y army". They want to be able to just point to a box on the shelf, in its own little niche.

Include an 8 page supplement (or even one of their stupid digital only things) with rules and a short scenario for Space Hulk 3rd/4th edition and there would be another whole set of potential buyers.

I hope we get a Genestealer cult release. It would be just another step towards getting Arbites

Plus who wouldn't want a plastic cult limo?

If they do this, wouldn't they just use the 'Stealers and Broodlord from Space Hulk? Personally, I'm trying not to start anything new, I need to paint what I have......but a Genestealer cult would be too good to pass on. Plus, I'd just add the Deathwatch to my Sisters / Scions / Inquisition that I'm building up!
