For a recent project, I had to make a base that represented a frozen lake breaking under the weight of a sleigh mover over it. That's something I never did before, but I still gave it a try, and I'm pretty happy with the result, so I made a quick tutorial on how to reproduce the effect. You can see some pictures of the final product right after this paragraph. If it does interest you, you can see all the wip pic and text here:

Very cool !

Oh wow, very nice! Question - where do you get the plexiglass you used from? One of my armies uses a snow/ice theme for their basing, and I'd love to try something like this on some of my larger models!

Can't help you there. A friend had some extra from work, and I haven't bought some myself yet. I guess you could find some at an hardware/home renovation store

The plastic covers that go over ceiling box lights like in schools, etc. also work well for this. They shatter nicely and have some texture to them.

Iv seen those with the icy texture.

be sure to use some sticky tape first unless you want that stuff shattering EVERYWHERE!

I put them between two towels and hit with a hammer. Kept everything contained.

That's a nice idea. For this project, I wanted flat, but I easily see other minis where the added texture would be a boon.
