Well if the rumors are true, WHFB has become un-supported, Age of Sigmar is the new fantasy game.
So, what shall we do with 30 years or so worth of fantasy stuff.
I will continue playing 8th, but i do believe I will tinker with the magic system a bit, maybe make it a bit more like 7th.

What will you do?

I guess the end times really were the end times?

I'm going to do the same thing I've always done with 40k. Keep at it until I'm bored, and will tweak and homebrew the heck out of it.

My friends and I are rolling back the clock to 7th (no laser-guided cannonballs, super-magic, etc.) and just tweaking the rules to match as close as possible. For instance, the Hurricannum is just tweaked from the War Altar (casts Celestial spells, can only be ridden by a Wizard).

There's really naught to do for it except just use what you have however you want. Not the most helpful response, I realize...

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage

Play the game you have and enjoy.... The rules are complete in and of themselves, you don't need 'support' from GW. Otherwise, go look up 3rd Ed - that was great! (and the last time I played WHFB....)

Still play it with friends?

I could play a game of 2nd edition-4th edition 40k tonight. Or Epic Armageddon, Gorkamorka, Necromunda, or Battlefleet Gothic. Hell, even Inquisitor, though with 28mm models.

Games are as dead as players let them be.

If nothing else I hope this is an opportunity to make them a bit more dynamic. As an army and aesthetic I've always liked I could never pull the trigger on an army that seems like it only excels at one static element of the game.

I plan on giving Kings of War ver 2 a try. Failing that I'll just keep looking for people to play 8th with.

Keep pretending its 1988.

I'll bet copies of 3rd edition rules will be expensive, better make up my own from memory.

Will continue playing 8th, tried AoS tonight and it was terrible, I honestly can't think of a good thing about it when compaired to WHFB. Yes the units info is on a card.....but then I can do that for each of my 8th edition units.

It seems like a good opportunity to pick the edition that you and whoever you play WHFB with like best and just go with that. I'd probably give 6th edition a whirl if I was going to get back into it.

Yes. 6th or 7th would be great.

I guess what bugs me the most is they have never had an edition with complete current army books for all armies since 5th. It would have been nice for them to finish 8th first, before cutting it loose.

The other thing that bugs me is the newer bigger figures, which will eventually replace all of the current line.

Yes scale creep is alive and well. Those Sigmarines are bigger then a terminator model

Actually, if you account for the fact the chaos termie there is on a scenic part, as you can see there...he kinda is.

Going to keep playing 8th. The games I play tend to be dominated by large blocks of Core troops, and 8th works a treat for fighting those kinds of battles. At the moment I'm working on two different armies, one is an Empire and Dogs of War force using the Perry WOTR and Warlords Landsknecht. The others a Highlander/Irish themed Mercenary army using Mathias's Dogs of War Book.

To be hones using a combination of the fan books, old supplements like Warhammer Skirmish and ignoring the existence of some of the new stupid uber units, and of coarse the End Times. I'm having more fun playing WHFB now than with anything GW has released in the last 15 years or so.

Its quite telling that in the last five years I've bought around 600 miniatures for Warhammer, but only one from GW, a plastic Necromancer.

They're the same size (shoulders of the terminator lord match top of the Sigmarine's head)

At this point, I'm not sure what to do with my old WHF armies. I see thee options, first, play oldhammer. If I do this my feeling is I'd prefer to go with 6th or maybe 7th ed. I just liked them better than 8th. A lot of that of course depends on reaching a consensus amoung the local players as to which the group wants to support (if any). Second, I could port my armies over to Mantic's Kings of War. I'll need to read the new 2nd ed rules they just released to see if this is a viable option, and of course the issue of local support remains although I think it might be easier to find support for a "live" game system than a "dead" one. Finally, my last option is just to sell off my old armies (probably for cents on the dollar) and move on. Still have not decided which I'm going to try.

Not sure how the chaos figures in the new set scale with the old stuff, but as far as the Sigmarine force compared to the old human-sized figures, AFAIK these new figures are not human. They are divine/superhuman warriors created by Sigmar, and they are meant to be larger than normal humans. I think we'll need to wait until they start releasing figures for the new human faction (or maybe the new elf faction?) before we can really see if the game it suffering from scale creep or not.

I have posted this pic several times but it bears repeating - the scale creep is significant and not just in the Sigmarines either - check out the chaos guy, who is now taller than a Space Marine. I think it is most likely a deliberate ploy on GW's part - they know full well that people will go out and buy more of the new models, especially so when the new models make the smaller, older models look stupid.

I think I'm just going to keep playing 8th, I like the 8th ed Lizardmen book, I like my Lizards, I've had fun with it. Might look at KoW, but not super interested in it. Ignoring AoS honestly, and who knows, put that money and time into Warmachine and Bolt Action.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

I'm gonna make my own ruleset called Hammer of War with hookers and blackjack.

Then on the day I finally finish converting the last GW army book for my game, I'll go on Faeit and read about the upcoming 9th edition starter set for WFB that'll be replacing Age of Sigmar.

I've decided to just keep playing Mordheim and Bolt Action for now.
I did grab the rules and war scrolls and read a few of them. Playing AoS just isn't the same as WHFB, although my TK look like they would have a few new bonuses.
