So my daughter was hassling me to do something, so i decided to crack these bad boys out again. I've had the molds for about 9 months now. At this rate I will finish just before the ABS plastic of the miniatures has broken down.

Anyway, I've gone for 6mm mdf with a full 1" excess on each side of the extended board (to make full walls)

In these pics, only the floor and industrial Edge is glued down.

Not completely decided on height yet, i think the taller wall is better so far.

Thoughts?

I think it looks really cool, and gives it a more space hulk feel to it. Especially if some of the sections are trashed to represent how old the hulk could be.

Yeah, casting is hard to get the hang of, much like everything else. I can mix and cast very efficiently now, but the concept of a space hulk being what it is, the air bubbles make for perfect corrosion.

Sveamore has a thread on here where he explicitly mixed it with half the water so it was like glue to make the floor grids - the meant that sections were missing and looked like holes in the floor, it was brilliant.

The one thing I am not sure about is the doors, I think having doors without door frames is going to look stupid.

So, there was a thread about painting models for people, like a free commission system for people that just wanted plastic to paint. In this thread, some dude offered for me to paint his nids - I'd never painted tyranids, but obviously i will need to with my space hulk sets as well as deathstorm to complete.

Painting for someone else was been very rewarding, I force myself through troubles and setbacks because i am obligated to get this dude his model back, as I've promised to do. It is quite motivating really.

I haven't painted in over a week due to my wife being quite sick and alcoholism, but that is over now, so here we go.

I changed the front claws out as i felt that the nmm force sword look was distracting. I am not happy with the gradient yet, and will probably airbrush them a bit. I've finished all the other claws and repairs all other flesh areas. I need to finish whatever the little pods near it's head are, gradient the claws, and then oil wash him. Should be done this week and ship next week!

Carnifex had gloss coat now, i reckon 60 odd hours and then black oil for shadow and blue oil for the skin openings. Paint absolutely hates sticking to this thing, it is really bothering me. No idea why it is going to wrong, vallejo surface has never failed me like this before. Hopefully a lot of varnish will fix it.

I also added two devatators to the queue, thinking of a black cross on the left knee there. Maybe a black wedge. No idea, it needs a sit anyway. They will be dark angels, that tan color is great for highlighting them.

And this bloody dire wolf dragon. Trevor. It is going to take a serious beating to get it together, but it is progressing.

Yeah, I let myself do whatever the hell i want while modelling, I've got boxes of almost finished stuff, figured i may as well document it.

The carnifex, being a commission of sorts, is really motivating. It is an odd sensation, finishing something.

I think this carnifex is done

A few minor touch ups and a thorough dousing of sealer.

Nice bug. But I just can’t think of those things as carnifexes. Screamer-killers forever man!

She's all sealed now, so I will post her to you on Friday after I give her a photoshoot.

Shockingly happy with how it turned out, I think I will use a similar colour on my own. I was considering making the talons (and all horn-type stuff) bright orange over the gradient, but that will require more testing.

I got some brass rod and new drill bits delivered - time to wreck trevor with them, then I can finally prime this bastard.

Also got SirDoland's devastator's knees done (DA 4th company checkboard top half), that was really causing be grief. All the other pieces are done too, so aside from the fact that I am missing a left arm, I should be ready to prime them all tomorrow night (I'd do it tonight, but my airbrush is being a jerk).

Finally, my ork got his checkboard done too, so it is on to the hair/leathers

Photoshoot done.

Pretty happy with how she turned out, ignoring the difficulties in doing it fully assembled.

I like the bone crest you've added to the head there (isn't that a tail piece?)

No idea dude, it came fully assembled, I just painted it up as part of the "I'll paint your model" thread

First tyranid I've ever painted, I like the colour scheme, but would probably paint the talons out to red/orange

Nice scheme on the fex, did the client already have the scheme for you to work from or is this a original colour concept?

The client didn't care at all, "not red" were my instructions.

I want to see how it looks with red on the holes in the skin and the talons, but I'm pretty happy with the colours overall

So, a key problem I have is procrastination, I'm working on it (later). Anyway, one thing I wanted to do was commit one hour each night to paint. I was going to do a list in word or something bit figured what better way to shame and motivate myself than by writing it all here. This is a list of open jobs I want to complete, the first four are the only priorities as they're not mine.

1. Donlad's devastators, mostly done, require finishing (and awaiting a part)
2. Trevor, his tail is assembled
3. MSRCs bugs, I've magnitised the exocrine, nothing on the flyrant

From there, stuff that is started in some way;

(Part painted)
Land speeder storm
Ork Nob from waaaargh dakka
5th co tactical squad
Whirlwind
Chaos chosen from dv
Hell brute from dv
Rest of DV
Escape from goblin town set
Drop pod
Dreadnought
Ciaphas cain mini from brother vinnie

(Assembled)
Imperial knight
Lotr set on plinth
Tablescapes set
Space hulk set A
Hirst arts molds for space hulk
Deathstorm

And then the stored stuff;

2x imperial knight wardens
Terminators
Tau set
Eldar battleforce
Command tanks x2
Warlord (not joking, unfortunately)
AOBR set
Macragge set
Hive tyrant
Web only captains
My own Trevor
Old thunderhawk
Storm raven
Various other stuff I've forgotten and will add later

This effectively constitutes everything i have that is not finished, and it bums me the hell out. I'll update it with stuff in forgetting, but I intend to not buy any more man dollies until I get that list down - I actually want to do this, so far most of my hobbying has been buying everything I can find and agonizing over trivial detail.

I'm not waiting until new years, I'm starting now, but im going to be forgiving of missed time at this stage.

Plasticrack is a hell of a drug

That’s quite the list of things to do. Will feel really nice once you start checking things off!

Slow but steady can work. I aim for one mini a week, and can maintain that pace. That’s 50 minis a year, so as long as you don’t buy too much new stuff, you can stay afloat. If you have a lot of partially painted stuff, triage them into piles of things that can be quickly finished and moved to the “done” pile and things that are going to take a lot more work. Clear the decks of all the slow stuff.

Setting a set hobby time is a good thing. If you are at the workbench, progress will happen. Might be slow, but it’s something.

Best of luck!

Once I get into the swing of it and am making progress, I will set a goal - the best thing I have seen for that is scoring based purchases, so if you paint one model, you can have $1 to spend on stuff (or whatever). For the immediate short term, I will not be purchasing anything, the last arrivals are a bunch of trade items from here.

Finally got to priming this exocrine/haruspex - i magnetized it, because i can't deal with waste and i hate myself.

http://imgur.com/a/HrNWd

Went for grey primer because i figure I'll paint the black by hand.

Also started casting replacement feet for this flyrant, as well as back spines. I've quit playing pc games, and have uninstalled reddit/ebay/all games from my phone so have been getting things done!

Here's to killing this list

That’s a lot of parts. How many get used at once? And how many are swaps for the different flavors of ‘nid? Good luck with the bug.

The only things that need to be swapped out are the head assembles (both currently in two pieces) and the front arms. Magnetizing was not as bad as i expected, which is lucky as I used the wrong magnets (weak ones) for the arms, but it is still solid.

Super keen to get this all done so i can start new projects!

The flying hive tyrant that goes with the exocrine/haruspex was a nightmare. It was an old model that had the absolute crap beaten out of it.

I hated the feet on this thing, so i bought a new flyrant and push molded copies of the feet. I also repaired the spines on the back.

Really happy with how it is turning out now - he's good training for trevor.

Head swap city

This was actually pretty annoying, given that the haruspex clips on to the neck a little. The exocrine is solid, haruspex is a bit wobbly. Neither can fall off though.

Pretty good feeling to have that bad boy out of the way. While I was doing it I also made some pretty decent progress on the flyrant, I hope to have that and Trevor done next month so I can move onto "my" projects.

Not sure what I will do first, I think I will get a few semi-completed projects out and just try to break them as soon as possible;

Land Speeder Storm (digital camo)
My Ork Nob for >>this<<
Chaos chosen from DV (and the hellbrute)

Oh man, I didn't even post that I finished Donlad's devastators! REALLY happy they are in the post on their way to him, I hope he likes them.

I was going to go all brush because reasons, then i realised it needed something, ended up with a pretty sweet effect on the wings.

Also, i am no longer unhappy about the base
