I would say Imperial Guard is the most expensive on average. None of their builds are really low model count with either a ton of expensive vehicles or tons of infantry (sometimes both).

Orks can be costly but they can also make some middle of the road cost lists which keeps them more reasonable.

Horde mode sisters. Something like 75 cents per point for the girls' models. The vehicles would be the cheap part of the army.

I recently worked out that my current 1500pts of Sisters has cost me about £500, and the rest I have planned to take me to 3000 will be about the same again. They don't really have any cheap/high points options - even the vehicles are fairly low points.

Anyone starting them now is also going to have to take their chances on ebay or similar seeing as quite a few essential models (several of the special and heavy weapons and most of the Seraphim among others) are no longer available direct from GW.

If there's a more expensive army out there it's probably Forgeworld.

Imperial Guard can be really costly. Orks gain the benefit of cheap second hand models for their troops.

EDIT: Unless we are talking Forge World. Then blob DKoK is a definite winner here.

Metal horde Imperial Guard. As the proud owner of a Valhallan horde, I can confirm this can be stupidly expensive.

Sisters. Or blob DKOK.

GreenTide can be expensive but then you realize it's only £160 for about half your army.

Agreed. I started a horde Mordian army but it got too expensive for my blood after like 5 squads.

To add that Orks are probably the best army for cutting cost. With clever usage of bits, scrap, and/or green stuff can turn a box of boyz or a box of nobz into most of the non vehicle options in the codex (could make ork vehicles out of sprues and the cardboards they are sold in if you tried hard enough).

It depends on what units you buy. Swarmy armies are generally really expensive. Orks have popular units that are more expensive in euro's then in points. This is not a way to build a cheap army. The best thing to do if you would really want to figure this out would be to calculate euro to points ratio's of most (popular) units. Including popular conversions that might be more expensive then you would initial think since you are paying for the parts separate from the models

CSM armies are the most expensive. Building a good list usually means getting stuff from Forgeworld and there are not many people who resell those models.

My Fire Raptor, 3 Sicarans, artillery pieces, flyers, etc set me back quite a lot, more than the rest of the army. Someone could buy Berzerkers off Ebay for less than $0.30 a model, but it's not really possible to get a Dreadclaw unless you buy it direct.

You do know that there are easy ways to access those models for a lot cheaper, right?

Are you looking for which army has the most expensive good army, or just the most expensive possible army.

Looking at models that are particularly low points for their cost. Dark eldar Lhamaeans are 20 dollars for a ten point model. You can run those things in groups of 10, and they take up an hq slot. Then in fast attack they have beast masters which are 25 dollars for a ten point model. I`m pretty sure they can also be run in units of ten. That`s a 250 dollar hundred point unit, and you can take 6 squads of them in a single detachment. Unfortunately kabolite warriors are pretty cheap. One 35 dollar box can get you two squads of 5 to make your troop choices. Your looking at a 1935 dollar detachment that is only 880 points. Run two 3870 for 1760 points.

Its a downright horrible army for a horrible price.

Chaos renegades because you have to not only buy all the standard IG figures for the army, but you also need to buy all the conversion pieces from Forge World to complete the look. I easily dropped close to $900 for 2000 points worth and that was buying all the IG parts from the Warstore for 20% off. I had cast the project aside as too pricey and then my wife decided to leave and I thought, well why not. So did it. Love the look of the army, but it was not even remotely cheap.

Orks are actually one of the cheapest because you can still come upon Assault on Black Reach orks for cheaply on Ebay these days and since they are not high on the power scale other minis can be had for pretty cheap on ebay from folks rage quitting the game.

Probably Sisters if you are buying only from GW. Ebay/Amazon and similar re-sellers can skew the price of any army downwards.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

legio titanic, partially because titans are an arm and a leg, to field 1250 point your either buying 2+ reavers/warhounds or your buying a single warlord which costs as much as a new desktop computer with ALL the fixings, right down to the usb pet rock.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts
