So I'm starting the small force from the Black Library book: Comissar.
Unit List:
2 Imperial Guard Shock Troops squads (10 men each)
1 Lord Comissar (Flint)
1 Vostroyan Firstborn Squad (10 men)
1 Vostroyan Command Squad
1 Armored Sentinel (Technically they didn't have these in the book, but there were the Witches so I'm including one.)
1 Cadian Command Squad
(Warning: I use a ton of shading paints, if you you dont like it, too bad. I think it makes them look more beat up and grimier)
I hope you like it. Please leave comments and/or suggestions. I'm kind of busy with school so updates might be sporadic.

Vahn. The leader of the first squad Flint meets. Unfortunately, his waist-length dreadlocks had to be cut to be in line with astra militarum standards

Finished a guardswoman. (Becka the Savlar)

I forgot to talk about the color scheme. The armor is Leadbelcher, the prison jumpsuit is Averland Sunset, the Imperial Aquilas are Mephiston Red, boots are Abaddon Black, and the skin is a mix of Cadian Fleshtone and Bugman's Glow. If anyone has suggestions for the army or backgrounds for the pictures, please comment. Thank you!

Troopers with assorted weapons. The one with the long lasgun could be Solomon but I haven't decided yet.

He has a Marine hand holding a combat knife. Probably got deep in the depths of Alpha Penitentia

Solomon?

I have been doing some research, and have decided that I might add a Valkyrie or two. Possibly a Sky-Talon. I want to be able to move in quickly, drop two Sentinels, fire some rockets, leave, then bring in the Valkyrie loaded with Vostroyans and drop them while the Sentinels provide cover fire. The rest of the force would flank either side if possible, ending up with a Cadian firing line. This is not definite, but I think it would be a cool addition. While I'm on the topic of adding things, I have a Chimera lying around in Guard colors. I might repaint and add it, but I kind of want to stay true to the book. Same goes for the Valkyries. Feel free to give your opinion. Thanks!

Never apologize for your methods. If they work for you it doesn't matter what other people think. Are you planning to play games with this army or is it just a show piece? One mistake I made when building my Orks was over thinking my tactics before I played any games. I ended up with a lot of models for tactics that became impractical on the table and not enough things that I really needed. If your army is just for show, these considerations are irrelevant. But if you plan to take your force to the table, I recommend playing small point games as you build your force. These will highlight your needs according to your playstyle and possibly forestall unnecessary additions to the army.

Yeah. I'm thinking I was going to play a few games, but I would save the majority of my games for my larger Dark Angels army. This is really just a cool side project that I thought would good and be pretty unique. Because, do you know anyone else who has done a force form Comissar? If you do, please tell me. But anyway, I'll probably do just that. The small games to see what I need. Thanks!

Nice.

Like the scheme. I think Chimeras are still a solid choice for IG in terms of transport, they'll get your dudes where they need to be anyway.

Looking good so far, can't wait to see some vehicles. I love the theme of a "little known" force with unique characters and stories. Commissar is on the to read list so hopefully I can get to it while you're building your force so I can follow along. The grimy style works so much better than the cookie cutter never been in a fight clean paint for a force like this. Keep it coming.

I'm trying to decide on whether or not to get a Vostroyan Firstborn squad next, or an armored sentinel. Suggestions? Also, should I add any heavy firepower, like Leman Russ's or Basilisks? For the vehicle color scheme, should I go for a Averland Sunset with Leadbelcher highlights or vice versa.

Here is another guardsman done.

Looking good, dude. I love the contrast of the jumpsuits with the armour. Just keep churning them out!

Progress Update: Almost done with the Chimera. Just need to add details and shade. 4 more shock troops to do, then I'm done with the first squad. Vostroyans or Sentinel next?

Ok, so I finished the Chimera, the yellow is supposed to be sloppy, like the painters didn't feel obligated to do a good job. Also, I have a single ogryn, I dont want to repaint him, but should I add him to the roster?

I like the way the chimera came out.
