My weekend project is done! Well sorta. I might go back and add some weathering, not sure. I know the model would look better, but I hesitate because my BA army was designed with dreadnoughts not weathered.

Since I wasn't totally crazy about the original pose, I cut him up: the left leg was made to bend quite a bit (you can really see it on the profile from the right), and the torso is twisted to the right. It's not hard: just separate the upper and lower torso, and cut the left leg, while keeping the right leg attached to the lower torso. There's a bit of extra love, too -- the double-lined text, some careful gradients on the assault cannon, that kind of thing. I would have probably done a bit more, but I really wanted him finished for the weekend, as next week is a pretty brutal work week for me.

Incidentally, this guy is HUGE. You don't really realize it until you put him together with a 40k Dread. Ignoring the elevated base (sorry!), you'll notice that he's just massive on the bottom-most picture.

Damn Talys, My weekend project was painting a jump pack for my Blood Angels Librarian. Your weekend project was painting up an entire contemptor dreadnought, to include the base. Amazingly well executed and awesome work on the dreadnought as always sir. Your red shades are always on point and your models are so clean with just the right amount of weathering. Brilliant work sir, and I hope I can match your skills with my own one day.

As an aside, I want this mini (Along with the entire box of minis it comes in!) so badly it almost hurts. I want to do one of these guys up as a Furioso dread, I just wish there was an easier way to convert the arm into a frag launcher. :( Still, an Assault Cannon + Power Fist isn't a bad option by any means on a Furioso, especially one that will be arriving via Drop Pod. I'm also glad to see it can be posed a little differently with only some minor work. I'll be trying this out if I can once get one later & can look at the mini up close.

Thanks for sharing this Talys, and I hope to see more of your Horus Heresy minis soon! Take it easy sir.

Thanks guys!!

@Red - if you really wanted to, you could cut off the weapons from the bottom half of the right arm and do the same from one of the other dreadnoughts. But I think it would be way more fun to get a Forge World dreadnought arm!

@Nightfall - It's a core product, so other than temporarily selling out, you'll be fine

Looks great! And wow, that scale shot is pretty crazy.

I'm building mine right now, it's a bit hard because I've got him in a crounching/wounded pose though.

Assuming you're basing that on the BaC model, I absolutely need to see this! I had planned something similar, but it looks like the legs would be very difficult to repose at the knee.

BaC model? IDK what that means buddy, is it a forum?

And yeah, you're telling me. I'm also having a wonderrrrfulllll time reposing each finger to make a fist. (Free me from this curse... slay me... ) His foot and leg were damaged from a Word Bearer's melta bomb, so since he's already crouching he's decided to punch that Word Bearer's skull a few feet into the dirt below.

Still. This model is awesome for the straight/not warped Kheres cannon and the fun you can have with plastic. I hope it gets a standalone box.

Anyways, to be on topic, Tal, your red is still crisp as ever. Also, having the Contemptor crouch, he's about the height of the standard dread, which is crazy.

Sorry, Betrayal At Calth! But yeah, that sounds very similar to what I was planning, so if you take any pics of it, I'd love to see them!

Tagony, I stumbled onto a really nice formula for applying decals one day when I was doing decals and falling asleep. It's dead easy, too.

1. I put the decal in a water tray.
2. I start with MicroSet. I paint the whole panel that's going to receive the decal so that there won't be any drying spots.
3. I apply the decal onto the wet MicroSet, and adjust it. Then I put another layer of MicroSet on it (while it's wet). Using a flat brush, I ensure that the decal is wrinkle-free and devoid of large air pockets.
4. Use hairdryer or wait for it to dry. Then apply 1 coat of MicroSol. This bunches up the edges a little.
5. Repeat #4.
6. Use hairdryer or wait for it to dry. Apply Vallejo Decal Fix.
7. Repeat #6 about 2-3 times

It comes out perfect every time, with no noticeable ridges at all. No gloss coat underneath, no lahmian medium after, etc. I fluked onto it when I applied the wrong product one time, because I was falling asleep

Oh -- also, I use a flat brush to apply, rather than a round. The MicroSol/MicroSet doesn't matter so much, but Decal Fix is pretty thick.

Talys, your stuff is absolutely flawless. Others have different styles that they do extremely well, but you execute your bright, clean style as well as anyone out there. It definitely looks like it could be the glossy picture of this mini in the catalog or on the box. And I'm amazed at your speed. To get this done to this standard in a weekend is incomprehensible to me! I take twice as long and my stuff looks 25% as good! Ha ha.

Great stuff, as always.

Lovely work as always. That was the one mini I didn't like in the set and you've really done a great job of fixing it's drawbacks.
