I must be the prized customer of Games Workshop because I am a sucker. All they have to do is throw the word "Legion" in front of something and I want it. I was really excited to paint my first "Legion" tactical squad even though it's the same as the other 100 or so squads I've already painted. That's called being a sucker gents.

Anyway, decided to finally do a Pre-Heresy army and chose Ultramarines. I'm trying to weather them in a manner to indicate heavy action, but I don't want them to look totally beat the hell up. I'm thinking they just entered the catacombs under Calth at the start of the Underworld War. I'm not really happy with the bases, I was going for a ruins look. I'll probably change it. I got a bunch of Forgeworld awesomeness and a couple copies of Betray at Calth. So here are some pics.....

Looking good so far FSU and welcome back! If I can suggest some bases, try secret weapon miniatures ruined temple bases as I feel that they will fit what you are trying to go for.

Nevelon: We will see how they pan out I dont think Ive painted blue marines before. I have a FW legion transfer sheet on the way, that should give them some pop.

@paradigm- I'm using the ole sponge method with a mix of chaos black and rhinos hide. Followed by a very lite brush with iron breaker. I use a dry brush to dust them with Valello light Siena.

So the Contemptor is painted, just need to add the transfers. The FW legion sheet hasn't arrived yet so I'll put him aside till then. I'm gonna start on the jet bikes and built the Sicaran tank. This army is gonna be governed by the infallible Rule of Cool, I don't even have one of the HH books for an army list. I'll probably pick one up at some point but until then.........

If you need any help checking what's legal for a HH force and what's not, let me know and I'll make sure it's all workable. Some of their unit builds are a bit funny (for example, no Special Weapons in Tactical Squads, but you can then take all-Special squads).

Nevelon- Thanks man, there is much FW goodness on this thread. Sicaran is almost built. Im also gonna get some 30k Predators and Vindicators. Everything will be FW except the standard infantry and possibly a Knight.

Well Master Azalle, the Sicaran is built and ready for paint. That thing is freak in sweet. Got my Legion transfers in too so the other guys are done and ready to get beat up.

Thanks gents. Talk about timing, Ive always wanted to build a Minotaur army so I decided to buy a transfer sheet from FW with the Ultramarines. Well, apparently I got the last one. Hows that for luck. I guess Im obligated to figure out bronze now.

Hah, awesome! I believe the painting legend that is Nerdfest09 did some Minos recently, possibly with a mini-tutorial/explanation in his blog. Might be worth a look. AzazelX also has some in the works in his thread, and Januine got some awesome muted metals on his last batch of Ad Mech (might be a little too gold for Minos, though). Plenty of inspiration out there!

Jetbike looks good.

Paradigm- ive checked out those guys and a lot of others. I have 2 problems. My preferred method is the brush, but the formula I like results in pooling on vehicles. Can't figure a way around that. The other problem is should I buy an airbrush. That would probably be best but is I'm gonna spend money, I would rather it be models. Oh well, first world problems.

Well, I think I spelled that right. My first ever 30k Terminators, pretty sharp! I like these far more than the 40k guys.

I'll probably sell them. I'm gonna structure the army so it can be played as 40k or 30k. I've had to just accept I don't have the time to play so maybe someone else would enjoy it.

Looking great, the off-white shoulder hangy-things (there's probably a word, but I can't recall it for the life of me) are a nice touch.
