I'm in the process of taking an old AM army from years ago and cannibalising it into a new Nurgle Renegade army. I've paint stripped everything and broken down every infantry model that was willing to brake so it could be reduced to torso, arms, legs etc.
From there I picked up a load of components from Victoria miniatures (mostly gas mask heads, chem backpacks, shotguns and AK-47 style autoguns) and have managed to build about 65-70 renegades.
I've also refurbished 2 old basilisks and a leman russ.

You can see from the pictures below that — everywhere I can — I've made use of flamers to compensate for the renegades' terrible BS. The more template weapons the better. This is also why I removed the sponsons from the Leman Russ.

Once the painting is complete —which could be a very long time — the plan is to complete the basilisk battery with one more piece, have a complete leman russ squadron with the addition of another battle tank and demolisher, and finally a valkyrie for the command squad.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Really liking what you're doing here. Something similar to what I'm doing myself.

Keep it up, and keep posting.

Just realised I hadn't updated this in a long time. I've been working on some other projects recently but still have a few updates.

I picked up Deathwatch Overkill a while ago and have head swapped all the 3rd and 4th generation hybrids to make a workers rabble...

I've also made this grizzly character...

And I'm finding ways of making standard issue Imperial equipment look a like more "renegade" (mostly using lots of chains)...

I've done a bit more painting, so I'll take some pictures soon.

A small painting update. I'm trying to mix up the colours for the fatigues and body armour, different combinations of grey, brown, and green to get a rag-tag feeling.

The enforcer is from Forgeworld and comes with a backpack, but the rest of them are separate and are from Victoria Minatures who do loads of great conversion bits for IG and Renegade armies.

wow, they look pretty similar.
thanks juptrking, sometimes its hard to tell what the bits will actually look like on a mini.
I hate to buy things unseen.

No problem, I'll post a few more close ups of Victoria components on models if it's useful for people. I also got head swaps, arms, autoguns, and great coat legs for the enforcers from there too.

This is looking good! Love the conversions. I always like a conversion heavy army (yeah I know, it's a lot of work and then painting..) because it looks more like a real force to me. That applies double to a renegade army! Keep it coming! I so wish someone in my local group would give chaos and renegades a try...we suffer from too many "good" guy armies. Man to see these guys set up on a table...

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Thanks edwardmyst! I couldn't agree more, I think armies with personality are much more fun to build. But you're right, it takes a lot of time (although I think enjoy converting the most so that's fine by me).

This is the first non Imperial army I've done in a long time. I usually avoid the bad guys because they don't feel relatable. But with a renegade army I can believe a lot of the soldiers don't even know Chaos has a hold of them at the start of a revolt.

I've taken some more close up pictures of Victoria Miniature bits so you can see how they fit on GW Cadian parts. The gas masks are made of soft metal so you can bend them around any head, in this case an Empire militia head.

I've made a start painting the Leman Russ. However when I built it years ago I glue the turret for some reason So I broke it off and rebuilt the bottom of the turret with greenstuff and plasticard before I undercoated it.

I've now got the base green down and the large chaos grafitti, I just need to paint the details like chains and rivets etc. You can notice a lot of scratches and things where I had filed away the lumps of plastic where the sponsons had previously been. I think that it somewhat adds to the rough and ready aesthetic that you'd expect from a renegade army
