And we're back! For years now I've praised Reaper for having the most diverse line of models out there bar none. Whether you need an Elf ranger, a cowboy, a cow, or a dwarf wereshark Reaper should always be your first port of call. And with their bones line they have some of cheapest models out as well. Nonetheless I have to admit sometimes Reaper's blatant pandering annoys even me. Especially their habit of putting out scantly clad models what would be dead within minutes of entering a dungeon, as if this was a Boris Vallejo calendar cira 1986. Case in point... Look at these two, bad enough the bee keeper isn't wearing pants, but the druid isn't even wearing a shirt! I understand there's a desire to show off their bodies, and hell there's even a historical precedent for going 'skyclad' but I think this is just shameless pandering to our basest instincts. Again, would it kill Reaper to give that Thief some pants? I mean if you're going to be scaling walls and such the chaffing alone... And I don't even want to think about what having a naked assassin in your room signifies, especially with that suggestively placed knife. But as I said diversity is a key to their line, the princess has a nice ankle-length gown And the samurai's kimono is perfectly fine. And here it's the male ranger who's going around with nothing but a long tunic to protect his modesty, the female ranger is pragmatically dressed with pants, a shirt and jacket. In all seriousness, this is just a stunning model, I don't know how much is due to the paint job but it is just gorgeous. I realize that's supposed to be a holy symbol, but my mind keeps seeing a beer can in his hand. Half-orc paladin. Half... Orc... Paladin... Paladin, who is half an orc. Is this some kind of 5th edition thing? As far as I know Paladins were human only. Still just look at him, here's a mini who tells a story of struggling against the rage inside him and his tainted blood and the scorn of his peers to rise above his roots and become a champion of justice. Wow, I think I just talked myself into playing a half orc paladin someday. After spending years looking at these pictures, I notice Reaper is now shading their unpainted minis. Cool. I point this out because I nothing much to say about this guy except wow. He just sells it. "I've been fighting monsters for 40 years kid and ain't no one gonna tell me to put on no shirt." Not entirely sure what these are, maybe something from the Fiend Folio or Dragon Magazine. No, no, no, no. Sir Rathan, your shield goes down, to protect your body, and your sword goes in and point it towards the bad guys. See? Isn't that better? I didn't spend 20 years at Wizard School to have to wear pants! That's what Bigby's Protection from Minor Chaffing is for! And there we go. Off to a good start in 2016!

Good stuff!
I thought the same thing about that rogue. I'd like to see it from other angles
Paladins opened up .. it might've been 3.5? I dunno..
Warforged could be Paladins and had a Prestige Class and everything. Half-Orcs IMO were only good as Paladins if you never planned on being awesome because so much is based on Cha but 1/2 Orc gets a whopping -2 CHA. I am not sure but I believe a lot of the prestige classes had charisma requirements too.
I primarily play 3.x btw.. They very well may be different in 4 or 5e.

Pretty much from 3.0 onwards D&D has allowed any race to be any class. Some combos are just bad ideas from a mechanics standpoint, though, or might have issues with the lore of a given campaign setting. But yeah, "can a half-orc be a paladin?" is now a question for players and DMs to answer, not a rules restriction.

Didn't they at one point also make specific examples..
Like Orcs could be Paladins of Grumsh and Drow Paladins of Lolth etc?

The alignment of the paladin (and any associated god) is a separate issue from their race. As much as assuming all orcs are evil makes for simple moral decisions, it's not exactly realistic for an intelligent species. For evil-aligned paladins, you'd probably be better off being an Antipaladin or whatever equivalent exists in the edition you're playing.

Most of those are from the Dragons Don't Share set, aren't they? I know I saw most of those at the FLGS this weekend. I wonder how long it will take for someone to kitbash a walking rig for the dolphins? The Cetacean Corps needs more recruits!

But the problem then is our black and white fantasy game because gray, and you can no longer slaughter orcs in a guilt-free way.
I think one reason zombies have been so popular for so long is that we have few other guilt free targets.
Once upon a time our heroes could slaughter American Indians, crooks or commies without anyone saying a word, but these days we tend to think twice when we see that.

It's not a new thing in fantasy gaming. Characters like Drizzt have been throwing a wrench in the "slaughter those weird people, they're all innately evil" concept for a long time.

2E? naw. For me, OD&D or AD&D 1E. But 5E is surprisingly good. If I had a nickel for every time I saw a paladin alignment discussion I'd be richer than D. Trump. I'd have better hair too. Seriously, read about the inspiration for the Paladin class (Charlemagne's 12 Paladins). Then you'll understand. Lawful Good is not at all what everybody thinks it is. (hint: it ain't 20th-21st century morality in any way.)
Interesting stuff. Reaper needs to show more painted versions of their minis.
I always thought 1/2 orcs and 1/2 elves were just dumb. Pandering to the LotR crowd. But I suppose they need minis too.

Half-orc paladin.
Half...
Orc...
Paladin...
Paladin, who is half an orc.
Is this some kind of 5th edition thing?
The entry for Paladins in the 5th edition Players Manual actually uses artwork of an obvious half-orc very similar to this figure in the example of a paladin. I have not read the book from cover to cover yet, but I have not so far seen any racial limitations on class choices. I think they may have dropped that limitation in 5th edition (I've been out of the loop on D&D for a while)?

Or droid soldiers in the Star Wars prequels.

Oh yeah! I absolutely need that half-orc paladin for my character in my group's current campaign. 5e's Oath of the Ancients is a great fit for half-orcs, who don't have a penalty to charisma any more.

Just a heads up...
A Reaper Rumor!
Pig-Iron Productions is having to sell off their ranges.
I started a thread in the Reaper forums suggesting they look into acquiring the properties and this was the response.

We are aware of the situation. We are not really at liberty to discuss any particulars.
followed by a locking of the thread.
I don't know if this means anything but it's certainly entertaining to consider. Reaper has long had a shallow selection of Sci-fi and this could be just the injection to the genre that they need if it ends up panning out.

Pig Iron makes some very nice models in power armor - for a long time I have used them for Brotherhood of Steel in my on again/off again Fallout tabletop RPG.
I hope Reaper gets them - it would be a shame if they went out of production.
And the idea of them in Bonesium makes me hopeful....

If you think about it.. it would open up the doors for a game too.
The factions from Pig-Iron:
Kolony
Rebels
System
Then Reapers'
Bathalians
Nova
and random Mercs
Plus all the zombies and stuff across both ranges.
That said..I'm pretty sure Reaper said (about Warlord) that they felt bad about it because people like the game but they just don't have the resources to do both games and models well so they chose models (entirely paraphrasing from memory so I'm sure I am off).
Maybe if they release a rules set alongside the models.. but not as a forced issue it could help.. or.. it might hurt.. thoughts?

Another way to put it would be that it is a bad fit. I would much rather see it end up with a company that does it right and knows what to do with it, instead of just being purely convenient for some.

Reaper has a very strong presence in B&M stores, a growing plastic line and knows how to make metal models.

Oh..wow.. not exactly sure what you even mean by that.
Then maybe sit down before you hurt yourself, instead of lashing out with insults.
If the rest of the world has to soon deal with rubbish shipping on Pig Iron stuff, that's not fair. It's not something that should give people sleepless nights, but it's not fair. Something that's good for you, or even everyone in the US, is not automatically fair. You saying 'I'm alright Jack and pull up the ladder' does not make it fair. Y'dig?
If you honestly don't know what Brook means by 'a company that does it right', then I'd suggest 'it' involves more equitable shipping policies. E.g. Victoria Miniatures seems to stay afloat on flat worldwide rates, despite any inconveniences. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Whose B&M stores?

Yes, thank you Vermis. Victoria Miniatures is indeed an excellent suggestion, not just because she sells models that go with the parts in question, but also because of the amazing shipping fees for ROW, despite being in a corner of the globe that doesn't scream "friendly shipping fees" straight away.
As for Reaper having a strong presence, in the US, sure. But abroad, feth no.

So wait.. people are in the Reaper thread trash talking Reaper but I'm the one somehow insulting people? I'm just trying to figure out where the hate is coming from... This sounds like sour grapes. Reaper has an excellent track record, does fine quality casting, and they actually manage their product lines. They even have miniatures in the Pig-Iron vein of sci-fi. Victoria simply does not. That said, I don't sit here crying about how Forgeworld, Victoria, West-Wind, Antenociti, Kromlech, Puppetswar, Titanforge, Maxmini, Anvil Industries, Heresy, Hasslefree or any of the other miniature companies I shop with that are not American based. So one line that Europeans have had access to for ages "might" come to America and somehow that's a huge affront to the sensibilities of everyone that isn't from the US? Give me a break. This thread isn't a place to bash. It's the Reaper News and Rumors thread and there is evidence that I've presented of this rumor. A few of you don't like this sure. The reasoning that Reaper doesn't know what they're doing though? That's pretty weak. It's about the shipping costs.. and that's obvious. So as was suggested.. look at what's good for the product line and not what's convenient for a few. (basically.. back at ya)
