Subject: Speed Freeks Orkcurion

Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord

Grimmor inspired me to write my own Orkcurion, although mine is based around the Speed Freeks list from Codex: Armageddon. I'm up late so there's probably a few inconsistencies with the writing (which I will adjust as they get pointed out). However I'm basing it on Grimmor's own Ork Codex fix, as I find his to be one of the more fair and reasonable fixes out there. Speed Freeks Orkurion: Requirements: 1+ Mob Choice 0-3 Big Boss Choices 2+ Waaagh-On Choices Command Benefits: Waaagh to Ride, Waaagh to Die: When a model from this formation calls a Waaagh!, test on every subsequent turn. Roll 6D6 and count the number of models remaining on the board; if the number is lower than the amount of models you have in play, the Waaagh! continues for another turn. This can happen even if the model that originally called the Waaagh! has been removed from the board (either removed as casualty, removed from play, or has entered ongoing reserves). When a Waaagh! is called, all models gain Zealot as long as the Waaagh! continues. Mount Up!: All infantry models that must purchase a Dedicated Transport may purchase it for free. Upgrades to the transports must still be purchased as normal. Da Red Wunz Go Fasta!: All Bikes, Jetbikes and Vehicle Models must be painted red in this detachment. They also gain +3" to their movement, but cannot purchase the Red Paintjob option (they already have it!). Sharin' is Krumpin': If this formation includes any of the following choices, it gets the corresponding rule: QuikMeks: All non-Walker Vehicles gain It Will Not Die Pain Train: All non-vehicle models gain Cybork Bodies for free. Flash Brigands: All Dedicated Transports may purchase up to 50 points of upgrades for free. Choices: Mobs: Kult of Speed: 1 Warboss 1-2 Nobz 3-6 Warbikers, Warbuggies, Wartrakks or Ork Boyz Squads 0-2 Tankbustas, Skorchas or Lootas 1-2 Battle Wagon Restrictions: All Ork Boyz, Tankbustas, Skorchas and Lootas must purchase a Trukk as a Dedicated Transport. They must also number enough models to fit into the Trukks. All Nobz and the Warboss must be mounted on Warbikes. Command Benefits: Hit and Run Bork Da Saddle In!: All Bikes, Jetbikes and Vehicle models have the Skilled Rider special rule. Smoke Trail: Any Jink Saves (but not other types of Cover Saves) made by models from this formation gets +1 to it's result. This can be combined with Shroud and Stealth, but a roll of a 1 is always a fail. Models with this rule is considered to have assault grenades. Big Bosses: Kouncil of Speed: 1-3 Warbosses 1-3 Nobz Restrictions: All models must be on Warbikes. Nobz must number 10 models each unit. You may not have more Nobz units than you have Warbosses. Command Benefits: Hit and Run, Smoke Trail, Fearless, Fear Da Biggest and Da Strongest: All Characters from this formation MUST issue and accept Challenges. Kunning Brutality: All models from this formation makes D6 HoW hits at +1 strength. QuikMeks: 2-5 Big Meks 3-10 Meks 1 Battle Wagon Restrictions: All models in this formation must form one unit even though this is normally not possible. Models with the Independent Character Rule may not leave this unit unless all the other Meks have been removed as casualty. The entire unit must deploy in the formation's Battle Wagon. The Battle Wagon may not select additional Battle Wagons for it's unit. Command Benefits: Relentless, Stubborn Gifts and Gits from Orkimedes: The Battle Wagon has It Will Not Die. Any Vehicles (from any detachment from your army) within 6" of a Mek or a Big Mek from this unit may make it's It Will Not Die roll on a 4+ Pain Train: 2-10 Painboyz Restrictions: All models in this formation must be given a Warbike. Command Benefits: Zealot, Fear, Hit and Run QuikFix: Any model within 12" of a model from this formation gets +1 to it's Feel No Pain dice result and will always have it's Feel No Pain roll even against hits that would cause Instant Death. Waaagh-On!: Deff Skwadron: 2-3 Deffkoptas 1-3 Dakkajets, Burna Bombers and/or Blitza Bombers Restrictions: None Command Benefits: IFF Gunz: Models from this formation never has to make Snapshots; whenever they would make Snapshots (even for Overwatch) they instead fire normally (for Overwatch, resolve your shooting before the models move into combat to determine range and who can be hit). Any shots from this special shooting that misses must instead be allocated to the next closest unit (as if it was hit instead); even IFF it's yours! Skwadron Tactiks: Models from this formation that fire on the same target gets +1 BS for every UNIT that fired at the same target before it. Resolve your shooting separately to determine who gets the bonuses in what order. Flash Brigands: 2-4 Flash Gits Restrictions: Every unit of Flash Gits must purchase a Battle Wagon as a Dedicated Transport. The Battle Wagons may not have 'Ard Cases. Command Benefits: Relentless, Stubborn Flashiest Ride: The Battle Wagons from this formation may purchase all of it's upgrades for free. Trukk Mob: 2-5 Ork Boyz Squads Restrictions: All squads must purchase Trukks as a Dedicated Transport, regardless of unit size (see below) Command Benefits: Outflank, Hit and Run Big Trukks: Trukks in this formation can hold up to 25 models. They must be modelled appropriately. Ram 'Em!: Trukks with passengers that have not turbo boosted during it's shooting phase and has not made a Tank Shock in the Movement Phase may make a Tank Shock attack in the Assault Phase. This is resolved exactly as if it took place in the Movement Phase. If the rammed unit is not falling back or made a Death or Glory attack, the passengers may immediately disembark (ignoring all restrictions, as they're jumping on the enemy) and is considered to have charged the Tank Shocked unit. Ork units that gets into melee this way suffer d6 ap - wounds, representing their eagerness in getting into the scrap instead trampling their fellow Orks. Blitz Brigade Da Vulcha Skwad 1-3 Warbuggies or Wartrakks 1-3 Stompas 2-5 Looted Wagons The idea behind some of the formation choices are to be force multipliers; The Decurion itself makes transports free, which is good as the majority of formations require transports of some kind. The choices themselves start making the transports better, by giving them IWND, free upgrades, and finally making those inside the transports a hell of a lot more sturdier. There are still a few tax units, which are there explicitly to jack up point costs so that you don't field EVERYTHING for pennies, as the idea is that the other benefits of the formations would outweigh them (especially since the majority of the benefits is free stuff). I'm more liberal with giving Orks free stuff because they're known to loot the crap out of everything, so they logically would be the ones with a bunch of free crap everywhere. Most of the Formations were written with other formations in mind, except the Kouncil of Speed, which was instead aimed as a shout-out to the old Nob Bikers list that was so popular in 5th edition, and the Deff Skwadron, which is just something I like and it fit the bill here. My favourite unit is actually the Trukk Mob, as it's designed to be straightforward and execute what I always imagined the Orks would do: jump out of a moving vehicle to butcher some faces. Note that the wording of it is intentional: because it's technically the Trukk "Charging" the enemy but it isn't declaring a charge, it can do so right from reserves after outflanking. Finally, the "Waaagh to Ride, Waaagh to Die" rule is a watered down version of the "perma-Waaagh" rule in the official Orkcurion; that one I felt was way too lazy in terms of writing and way too easy to snipe out of the army. This one represents the momentum of the Orks carrying on, with a "Mega Leadership" test to keep it going. But as Orks slowly drop from the army, this momentum starts dipping. It also obviously works a lot better when you bring more boyz than toyz to the field and it actually gives an incentive to your opponent to aim for your largest squads; start nuking your numbers to have a better chance of ending the Waaagh! earlier because, while it's active, your entire army will basically blitz across the board unhindered.

I think this is really cool. I don't know if you would be interested but I think it would be cool if you could do one for goffs, bloodaxes, and/or snakebites as well. Great job though. While there was a ton of free stuff it isn't really that different than everyone else once you take our ballistic skill into account. Only thing is possibly for the flash gitz one make them half off battlewagons just because 5 free tricked out battlewagons is probably a bit excessive in my opinion. Other than that I love your waaagh to ride waaagh to die rule and the red ones go fasta rules. I previously did not have any urge for speed feeeks. You may have just changed that.... My wallet can't take the pressure lol. Just my thoughts and again great job. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also for the charging out of the trukk in the assault phase maybe make them take d6 S3 ap- hits for jumping out of their vehicle at full speed but to help represent it also give them the S3 HoW.

Firstly, im flattered.
Secondly, i was a bit concerned about all the free stuff, then i saw how you could get free upgrades on your Trukks and i went "Ooooh boy...." But then i saw the tax on that, so i became less concerned.
All in all it looks solid, its basically a bunch of free Trukks which i guess isn't a huge deal. Im just not a fan of free points, but i recognize that it is a thing. In any event this looks good and im curious to see how it playtests. Though i won't be able to as i dont have nearly enough bikes

Thanks for the feedback. I will make the changes when I get home. For the free stuff, I was trying to take intentionally overcosted stuff or redundant stuff that wouldn't have mattered if you had 1 or 10 of them, so the free points was to sorta pay some of that back rather than just be free for the sake of being free. The Battle Wagon in the core Kult of Speed is one of them, as it exists solely to soak up points. Due to the wording of the rules, it neither benefits from free cost nor the 50 points of upgrades (it's not a dedicated transport). And because of the restrictions in the formation, it's likely never going to use it's transport capacity, but all of that is still being paid for.
Another thing I was going for was to make it interlocking. The Trukk Mob on it's own is nothing remarkable, as most enemy units can probably make death or glory attacks and destroy the trukk and boyz in it before they make contact, but with the Orkcurion's free trukks, they become cheap enough to spam.
I guess I was trying to go for something like the Ork's own gestalt psychic field in terms of gameplay; the more orks you bring the bigger their collective effects.
