As simple as the title suggests, I want to give the model a sword so that he could be a Praetor instead, and it has been done before, but I'm not sure how to go about giving him the sword. Any steps I can take?

Cut off the hand with the mace, replace with a hand holding a sword.
Repeat for plasma pistol being turned into a bolt pistol.

Ah, that is what I should have thought of earlier, thanks! Now that I'm thinking about all of this, if I removed the tassels in front of his arm, would the terminator sword arm fit the Praetor termie model?

I've actually done this conversion. You cut the chainfist arm right around the elbow (Before the elbow pad) and do the same for the sword arm. File both down to get a nice, flush fit and glue it on. You may need to snip some power cables but the end result looks fine.

The Termie sword does indeed fit the TDA Praetor. You need to trim the top of the arm quite heavily into an inverted V shape (leave the detail at the front, but don't worry about wrecking the back as the tassels will cover it) but it's pretty simple really:

Shall I cut it with clippers? Or some saw of some kind?

If you're doing it like I suggested, trimming the top until it fits, clippers are fine. If you take TCL's suggestion, a knife would be better as it'll give you a smoother cut.
