Am I the only one who gets LOTS of inspiration for new armies thanks to this new mini-faction concept?

Remember, we don't know the Warscroll Battalions yet BUT someone implied there would be "multi-faction" Warscroll Battalions.
Also this Grand Alliance includes:
Stormcast Eternals
Stormcast Extremis
Sylvaneth
Seraphon
Fyreslayers

Well, it's an inside look of GW's ideas regarding the way things have shaken down since the world was blown up and recreated as a magic space realm.
If you want to follow the official orders of battle, this gives you a clear pattern.

I'd like some insight into the relationships between these factions, what they do, where they do it and what they believe. Until then, it's just so many Proper Nouns.

I agree. It's made me want mini-factions of former armies I never had interest in. I think I feel less overwhelmed by an entire army's model range this way, and I like just a handful of units plus a couple of heroes to choose from for a cohesive force.

One thing I'm surprised about is the irondrakes/gyrocopters etc. are part of these factions and aren't forming the "steamhead" faction. Now I'm quite curious about that release.

This is really cool!
Best part is that now we can hear about them in the novels and we might see some Order start collecting boxes.
The Free Guild sounds like it might be a mercenary army that works alongside the Duardin. Technology and manpower kicking daemon backside throughout the eight realms? Yes please!
It's actually a bit funny, Dogs of war were the first human army GW dropped and now it seems they're the ones that remain.

...well, I'm still painting my Fyreslayers, so, maybe it can wait until summer event/tournament season is underway

Well for myself, I don't really care about formal game structure, it's the model collecting and fluff theming that has me salivating

Firstly I must say I love the name "Freeguild" and will be adopting this straight away for my Empire "Desperados". I did actually coin the term "Steam Guild" for my Duardin... Not sure what to do with that :-p
Yes, the lack of a "Steamhead" faction confused me a bit. I do wonder how set in stone the faction names in the Primer were, however. Fyreslayers were referred to as "Red Slayers" - was it a renaming of the faction later? Perhaps there won't be a "Steamhead" faction afterall.
I need to decide if I field my Empire Cannon using the legacy warscroll or the Duardin Cannon profile from the new book.
Lastly, a pure Ironweld Arsenal faction army would surely be such cheese haha

I think a Steamhead faction is still coming as these are dispossessed Duardin.
They're probably like the dwarfs who went from the holds to the imperial college because their ideas were rejected.

To be fair, they only pay Sigmar lip service. Their true loyalty is to Malekith (forgot the new name).
So who can say what they might pull in the future.

I'm really interested to see what happens. I'm likely to use this opportunity to expand my army, which was a small 8th ed High Elves army, into a more diverse force. In particular, I have quite a lot of infantry and shooting - time to add some rend 2 attacks, some artillery, and enough cavalry to make the world shake.

My guess is that gradually, new, more expensive kits will be produced, however, given the slow rate of releases for Sigmarines and FyreSlayers, I think it will take a very long time. In the short term, the idea of culling the ranges is simply to reduce the number of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units.) In other words, to save money by simplifying the whole line-up.

Malerion.
So who can say what they might pull in the future.
Honestly, we have no knowledge of who/what Dark Elves are doing. We know that there are a faction of them dwelling in the Realm of Shadow under Malerion and that they're called the "Shadowkin" there. We also know that they commonly hire the Caengan lodge of Fyreslayers. We know that the Shadowkin are governed by Malerion's "Darkling Lords".
We also know that the Grand Alliance: Order book is supposed to be not the populaces of the various Realms, but rather the refugees who fled those Realms and took up residence in Azyrheim. Automatically Appended Next Post: Baron Klatz wrote:Yeah, high elves got alot of cuts made. Makes me wonder if they're going to see alot of new stuff in the future to fill the void.
I think we're likely to see new stuff-- if and when we reach those particular Realms.

I notice the silly rules continue to go. The long beards still have their grumbles, but the player doesn't have to do them.
What's OCD-ish bugging me though is it looks like all the dwarfs and elves are on 25mm rounds.

Why is it bugging you? 25mm rounds has been the go to for models that were on 20mm squares.

I think it varies with the model. I kinda like the WMH 'bell jar' volume idea, and it seems to have wedged itself in my brain.
When I was assembling my SE, I tried them on 32mm - they fitted, but just looked wrong. The 25/32 sizing depends on the mini. Taller/wider ones look better on the 32 over the 25, whereas night goblins etc. look better on 25's.
Entirely subjective and personal preference, but I can see why Dwarfs or Elves on 25's would make someone's brain itch...

You're right, I think it's the Fyreslayers being 32s while other dwarves aren't.
