Hi all,

Hopefully I'm not out of line for posting this, it was meant as a general discussion so apologies if this isn't the right place.

I've noticed that there are an awful lot of "pro painted" miniatures on EBay that are going for ridiculous money.

My question is, do these ever sell for anywhere near the asking price and what are some of the best examples you've seen? I've attached one that's currently listed for £50.

Again, not meant to spread hate or rip on people's painting, just want to see what the views are on this

This thread probably wont last very long, but to answer your question sometimes "Pro Painted" is an intentional joke, but otherwise its a seller who probably doesnt understand the miniature economy and how it relates to the quality of the dubious paint job they are trying to sell.

If you want an actual "pro painted" army, you commission one from an actual professional miniature painter. Don't expect to find anything much better than the pictured Necron from ebay, weather it's listed as "pro painted" or otherwise.

Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

If you are making a living selling minis you painted, those minis are pro painted.

It would be far more egregious if these fellows were labeling them as display quality, golden demon etc.

I've often wondered the same thing - quite a few of eBay's 'pro-painters' are of dubious quality. I will say in the defence of the Necron pictured (and in case the painter is in fact a member of Dakka) - it's a fairly solid paintjob. It's not the best I've seen, but it's by no means the worse. I wouldn't label it pro-painted myself, but the painter shouldn't be embarrassed by their efforts at all.

@D4V1D0 - It's a valid question you've posed so you aren't really out of line, but I'd just have it in the back of my mind that a fair few of the people who sell on eBay are also members of forums such as Dakka - so be considerate when discussing topics such as this. That said, I do agree that some of the descriptions are... optimistic, shall we say.

Meh everyone has a different standard of pro-painted. It is either everyone who calls themselves pros are ego manics or anyone can be lol.

You know the difference between a artist and a painter? One got someone to buy something.

It becomes more pronounced the older or more OOP the model is. For example, a Terminator Librarian in finecast, NOS, goes for the astonishing price of 20. The same on in metal somehow goes for similar despite heing worth much more. But slap a "pro-painted" label on and you're up to 145 easy, which i know first hand because I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it.

At least, back in the day, one could legitimately claim to be a pro painter if they were using Reaper Pro Paints.

There are a lot of these out there. There are a lot of legit artists that sell pro painted on ebay. But there are probably more who list there stuff being pro painted and its definitely not.
