So a nearby hobby shop is going out of business so I picked up a couple planes for dirt cheap. I figured at worst I had some models I could build and give to my niece (she loves planes) and at best I had an Ork conversion I could work on in the future. The planes themselves look a bit small, but I was considering having a few boyz stand on the wings hanging on the the cockpit with possibly a gretchin pilot., then ork it up with a few parts and bits from other kits. Problem is, I don't play orks at all. I was hoping I could get some suggestions as to which bits would be good to look out for, what unit this size of plane could represent, and what kind of weapon bits I should look for and where to mount them. Any information or ideas from veteran ork converters would be greatly appreciated! I'm hoping to use these planes as conversion practice, as the only thing I've converted before was a terminator captain into a GK grand master. Thanks for looking!

EDIT: So i took some advice and attached a bunch of guns to the bottom of the plane. I also stuck one through a hole in the front of the plane. I also had an extra boss pole which I stuck on the back and a boy torso and grenade arm+grenade bag so I threw him on in the back. I still plan on doing more and definitely want to add a grot pilot in the front as well. Let me know what you think so far

nice =)

I like the grot idea, they might be closer to the right size too!

add some plasticard bits and bobs and some bombs and you're prolly well on your way

Real aircraft tend to have much narrower fuselages than 40k aircraft, which tend to have fat bodies and short wings.

As such, one way to make a real aircraft look more 40kish and also more orkish is to widen the fuselage. Just space the 2 fuselage halves apart and use some plasticard sheet to fill the gap. It'll make it much bulkier and more able to fit an ork in the cockpit, and the sheet plasticard helps it look more orky anyway.

Fun thing about orks are that basicaly anything goes. Due to a organ they have, if they believe in something it will become true. You could strap a piece of wood onto a brick and if the orks believe it will fly ...it will fly. Busy with a quick one for my son, the ork is way too big for the cockpit so i just put one leg i. And glued some sprue onto the wings as control bars and stuck some random sluggas onto the wings. Used milliput to enlarge the bottom of the plane. Still got to add some stuff. But to get into convertions- orks is the best to start with. Have fun, thAts the point of ork players. Keep us posted.

I'd second AllSeeingSkink's advice. That is exactly what I thought when I first saw them too.

I did something similar with grot pilots and Hasegawa Egg planes. I used them as "counts as" deffkoptas.

Thanks for all the tips! I'll definitely update this thread with some pics as I work on them.
