Hi

I'm currently painting the dead terminator from Space Hulk, and I wanna have him looking all dinged up, like he was defeated, but also that he was defeated absolutely ages ago.
As someone who is pretty new to the hobby, I've been kind of using him to test out stuff I'm not very used to - I love my black templars, but lord knows that just spraying black and then adding two highlights is mindlessly easy - in an effort to get a bit more experience with techniques out of my usual comfort zone.
As I say, I'm keen on a bit of battle damage and rust, and for the latter, I've been thinking of using Typhus Corrosion + Ryza rust, as it looks like it does the job pretty in terms of rust effects.

However, I was wondering if Typhus Corrosion in particular is suited to the size of the terminator model?

I've only ever really seen it used on vehicles, and that lumpy texture, I fear threatens to drown out some of the lovely details on my precious dead Blood Angel.
Also, if Typhus Corrosion is a characteristically terrible choice, what, in your experience, works best on that size of a model?

Cheers

It works beautifully on infantry models.

I've used it on many many many skaven infantry size models, and a few others as well. It's great!

if you're really not sure how you'll like it, take a very little, mix it in a cup with a bit of water, depends how much you use but I just start with a few drops of water - then use that on your model or a test area. Wait til it dries, add more if you want. It helps spread it out so it's not quite so heavy, if you want to slowly build up corrosion for instance, on something that isn't going to be *really* corroded. Takes a good bit longer due to more water = more drying time, but I like it on a few models when I'm not sure I want them more than moderately corroded.

I use Typhis Corrosion and Ryza Rust on all of my Nurgle CSM. Works wonderfully!

Figured I might as well post my results!

Had a crack at the termie this afternoon, thanks for all your help! He's still WIP and needs a little more detailing work + tidying up here and there, but the typhus corrosion worked really nicely I think.
That said, I think Ryza rust probably wasn't the best thing to test out on a blood angel, so I might just go over those parts that I tried to rust up with a bit more typhus

Thanks!

going over it again with the typhus is also what I do when I have either put too much rust on or want to tone it down some.

And that model's looking awesome!

your use of the corrosion is good, the only thing that id suggest is that his armour is still a nice shiny red..which wouldnt really be the case if hes been there for ages..his armour would fade, crack, etc aswell as being dirty. if your just using him as a test model i guess its not a drama, but if you want to use it as a show piece you could really make him look sweet if you faded him down a bit, dulled the gold off etc. ive even seen one covered in cobwebs..

Good to know that more typhus won't screw him up, cheers for the feedback!

Thanks. yeah, I've still got a bit of a ways to go at the minute (you can see the base layer of the gold coming through if you look really closely, as I've only given that one layer so far), planning on putting some cracks and dents in him with some rhinox hide etc. Do you reckon a wash would help get rid of the clean-ness of the armor? I feel like the photo doesn't 100% do justice to how dirty he looks irl, like about half of the shading on him is done with typhus, so he's pretty grungy, but I agree that atm he still looks a bit too new in places. Thanks!
