Had to take a break from my Tyrannids, but recently starting picking up Chaos Space Marines.

My original thought was to paint them up as Black Legion but after several test paints I just couldn't get the depth I wanted to get with grays and blacks so after several weeks of tests paints I settled on Crimson Slaughter.

My friend suggesting getting a squad of Space Marine Heavies and adding some chaos bits to the models as there were more options for heavy weapon choices. So my first unit is a converted Space Marine Heavy squad swapped in as CSM Havoks. I've decided they're recently converted renegade space marines who've sworn fealty to the Crimson Slaughter so that explains the left over heraldry of the Imperium.

I also tried out Typhus Corrosion and Razza Rust paints on these models to try and add some look of armour and weapons that haven't been maintained to normal standards. I would appreciate any feedback so far. The models have not been based yet and no heraldry added. Haven't decided on what would fit.

I have some WIP Terminators and a CSM Lord nearly done. Once they're together I think I'll try to figure out a basing scheme. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Plasma Cannon CSM - I didn't realized until I had already glued on the Plasma Cannon that Havoks don't have access to it, still. I like the look so it's staying for modelling purposes.

Epic stuff, tons of great detail. Your skill level is top-notch, I can't wait to see more. Great fluff and, fluff considered, I think the plasma cannon is a nice addition to the squad.

Terminators are finished (aside from transfers, and tidying up the sides of the bases.

I settled on an alien lava like base. I wanted it to look a little like glowing weird coloured lava underneath. The effect is almost what I wanted

You can see the bluish Eye of Horus is looking off center. It's hard to tell in the pic but I wanted this to look like an actual eye looking about so that's why the eye is looking in a different direction
Spoiler:

First attempt and a OSL power axe. The flash has washed out some of the effect but you can get some idea. Still no where near what I want, but I'm getting the hang of it I think.

This one has a really good view of the alien lava base

I wanted to get a Glowing Chaos Rune Effect painted on the jutting out rock he's standing on. I did a test paint below. Would really appreciate comments, and suggestions for the glowing rune before I finalize it on the actual base

I added some additional pics taken from my wife's camera. She's a much better photographer than I am, and the camera is way better than my smartphone.

There's some good shots of the alien bases I made. This was done by painting the base in Temple Guard Blue and Moot Green, then 'Ard Coat, followed by an extremely liberal coating of Agrellan Earth. After that dried I scraped off a couple of flakes here and there and then painted it Abaddon Black and another layer of 'Ard Coat on top.

As a side project I've decided to start working on some additional Chaos Lords for my Crimson Slaughter army. I wanted them to be themed on each of the 4 Chaos Gods as well as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Being Horsemen they, of course, have to be mounted. So I thought I'd go with each of the Gods mounts (Palanquin of Nurgle, Steed of Slaanish, Juggernaut of Khorn, and Disc of Tzeentch). I know the Palanquin of Nurgle is not really a mount, but it's listed in the Chaos Mount section under the wargear so I'm sticking with it.

Next I had to pick a Horseman to go with each of the Chaos Gods. This involved a little research and some guesswork on fit.

Khorne was easy. There's a Horseman of War with a Red coloured steed so that seems to fit easily enough. For this I'll be converting a Warhammer Chaos Lord on Juggernaut.

For the Horseman of Death I choose Tzeentch only because it didn't fit with the other two as well.

For Famine I choose Slaanesh specifically because of a line the Famine horseman says about leaving the wine and oil prices untouched. While this can mean many things, one of the interpretations is the normal crops (wheat and such) that poor people use the price is raised too high for them to live (and so starve) but the luxeries stay the same. For that it struck me as kind of Slaanesh.

that left the Horsemen of Conquest left who is often associated with pestilence (hence Nurgle).

So I have a theme. Chaos Nurgle Lord of Pestilence to work off of. Next up I need a model to work from. I bought the Warhammer Gutrot Spume to start. The unaltered model shown below. EDIT: PS this is not my paint job. Just a pic I pulled off the web.
Spoiler:

I cut some of the tentacles short and created an oversized plasma pistol kind of growing out of some diseased tentacles. This is my first time working with Green Stuff. Some shots below of the Conversion In Progress.

Still want to put some additional 40k pieces on the model but here's the current work in progress.
Spoiler:

For the Palanquin of Nurgle I want it to be pulled by some pestilence spreading things like worms, or bugs, grubs, etc... associated with rotting and disease. If anyone has some suggestion on where I can buy some stuff like that please let me know!

Great work! I tried doing Black Legion as well, but found it terribly boring. Even with my mediocre ability it was too simple. As for the bugs, check Reaper's Bones line. There's all kinds of stuff in there for extremely low prices.

I did check out Reaper's Bones. I think that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Here's a couple of more pics. Now that the green stuff dried. I added some more Chaosy Bits. A nice big Nurgle Icon on the backpack, some chains hanging off the plasma gun

Bolt Pistol on the back hip, and added some tyranid talons to the backpack wings to make it look a little more evil.

One more round of some greenstuff to fill in cracks and it's ready to be primed.

My Nurgle Lord of Pestilence is pretty much ready for priming and painting. Still to be done is building the Palanquin of Nurgle. I have some parts on order to have some rats carrying the palanquin as I thought rats fit well with the pestilence theme.

Here you can see I did a kind of dry brushing with Liquid Green Stuff on the chains, tentacles and icon of Nurgle. My hope is that once I start painting it will give those items a more rotted, diseased looking texture and feel.

the same is done to the rear of the back pack and back wings/blades

the second of my 4 Chaos Horsemen of the Apocolypse is the Tzeentch Lord of Death.

I decided he will be an amalgam of these two models

The Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch and a Chaos Sorcerer (these are not my paint jobs, just something I pulled off the web)

The Original Idea was to mainly work off the Gaunt Summoner body but it was (in fact) too gaunt. The moment I tried to place any 40k CSM parts on it the body looked too wimpy. So I cut off the parts I loved and began assembly on the Sorcerer.
The thing I love the most out of this model is the eye's growing up the side horns, so those absolutely had to move to the sorcerer. I also loved the idea of a third arm to work with too.

the Gaunt Summoner is actually floating on some magical wispy things on bare feet. When sized up against the CSM again it was just not bulky enough. So I pulled out some green stuff and sculpted some booted feet of suitable CSM size and made them look like they were tipping down in the same pose as the Summoner. Here it is drying

Next my Choas Lord of Death wouldn't be complete without a scythe of some kind so I've begun hacking together some necron and tyranid parts. This will be the base form for my scythe. After some greenstuff work it'll look suitably Chaos

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Cut the sword off the Sorcerer. Scythe will go in its place

Here the green stuff feet have dried and I've cut a slot into the sorcerer to fit. Will need some cleanup work to make it neat but I feel I'm going in the right direction.

I've completed some small modifications to the Chaos Scythe and glued onto the weapon arm. Time to let it dry before adding any more greenstuff

Here's a Test Assembly onto the Disc of Tzeentch, it's not glued down yet. This is a dry fit to see how it's looking and if it's going in the right direction.

Now for the Third Arm.

Originally I was going to use the staff from the Gaunt Summoner as is, but it broke during a test fit and it was so flimsy I didn't want to try a repair. Instead I cut the top off the staff and glued it to a Necron weapon hand that fit perfectly into the third arm slot. The Lord looks like it's holding some crazy, magic icon so I'm happy with how the broken staff turned out.

Also couldn't resist adding a giant icon of Tzeentch onto the backpack to tie in with my Nurgle Lord of Pestilince

Finished priming, and basing the Nurgle Lord. Some shots below. I'm not sure yet how the dry brushed Liquid Green Stuff will turn out. At the moment it just looks like I used way too much, un-diluted, paint on sections. I think the effect is close and I can bring out what I want with some shading, blending, and highlights.

My plan is to dry brush the purple flesh with some grey highlights to give it a sickly look, and some disease looking colours into the boils and such, blend in the tentacles to a different colour (undecided at the moment), and add some 'Ard Coat to give it a more liquid look to parts of the tentacle flesh.

still to add lots of shading, highlights, and tarnish to many parts, get the Palanguin built.

Some washes and shading have been added. Details are starting to come through now.
Spoiler:

Here second colour layers, dry brushing, and edge highlighting is really starting to bring him life.

I'm really happy with the way the dry brushed Liquid Green Stuff turned out for adding a corroding effect. It's really brought out the rust effect nicely.

Still having touched a lot of the skulls, the center of the Icon of Nurgle, and the flesh (other than shading it) still needs to be highlighted and blended into a second colour. Need to add finishing edge highlights to rust and metal horn things sticking out of helmet and shoulder pad.

the Nurgle Lord is about 99% completed. I have a couple of finishing touches left and then the basing can start.

Here you can see highlighting is complete. Nurgle's Rot added to various pitted holes in the armour, some of the festering stomach wounds, a little of the tentacle tips, and weeping nurgle's rot out of his helmet eyes and the eyes of all the skulls on the model.

Spoiler:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here I've started kitbashing my Palanquin of Nurgle together. Due to the model's awesome pose I had to make the Palanquin larger than intended so that I could get a nice looking Palanquin and also a removable model.

I've used a cork base. And dug out some trenching to fit the Nurgle Lord's base snugly. This way he'll be secure in the Palanquin but I can also field him without the Palanquin if I choose.

You can see I've also started prepping his base for my alien lava planet in this pic
Spoiler:

Here's a close up of the Palanquin. At the moment it looks like a toilet but it will improve significantly in the coming days. The platform base of the Palanquin is made from left over parts of a Rhino and a Zoanthrope head with the face cut off. The chair back is a left over Necron shield piece.

I'll be covering over the chair top and base with some green stuff to give it a bit more of a chair feel. The back of the chair will also get a suitable nurgling of green stuff along with a Nurgle Symbol.

So my Palanquin of Nurgle has received some Green Stuff treatment. It's now looking less like a toilet and more like a suitable Nurgle throne.

I've added some more left over Chaos Rhino parts (icon of Nurgle, and the semi-circle of spikes behind the throne).

I've used some green stuff to hide the majority of the base pieces which just helped give it the form I wanted and have added some texture to it for boils, veins, etc...

Spoiler:

Here's a couple of side view shots. Again, used some more Chaos Rhino pieces to fashion some chaos branded arm wrests. You can kind of see some tentacle looking things which I've used to kind of show the corruption is coming up from the ground.
Spoiler:

Once this dries I'll be added some more green stuff to the base of the palanquin to add some chaos corruption around the base.

I had originally planned on using some rats to be carrying the palanquin however after I looked at shipping costs to Canada, it's cheaper to get nurgings so that's what I'll be doing this weekend when I pick up the base Lord model for my Khorne Lord of War which I'll be working on next along with my Tzeentch Lord of Death.

My Khorne Lord of War on Juggernaut has arrived. I'll say that I was disappointed to see it was Fail Cast. So many bubbles and mold lines to clean up. And some of parts simply do not fit together. It's going to take a lot of clean up to get it ready for the Crimson Slaughter.

In the meantime I finished designing the Palanquin of Nurgle and it's now in the painting phase. Some initial shots. You can see I used a cork board base for the Palanquin. It's strengthened on the bottom with a layer of tooth picks glued on to keep it sturdy for handling. There's a small empty circle under the chair that some of my corrupting growth is sprouting out of. This will actually be a pool filled with Nurgle's rot when all is said and done.

Here's some base coat shots.

Here's a first layer of shading

Took a break from the Nurgle Lord and Tzeentch Lord to finish up some regular chaos space marines and started working on my Lord of War.

started with a horrible Fine Cast of the Warhammer Khorne Lord on Juggernaut. There was so much touch up and fixing to be done I honestly couldn't tell what was a mold line and what was a detail line at times.

Anywho, here's a WIP picture of the Khorne Lord of War. Custom bits added are as follows
- Cut off both shoulders and added CSM plasma pistol and force sword (to be a demon weapon). I went with a sword over a traditional Khorne Axe because the Horseman of War is specifically mentioned to have a sword.

Took me about 6 hours of cutting, trimming, and fitting to get to the step you see here. If I had to do it again, I would not have glued on the arms as I was progressing but at the same time it helped to see the fits as things went together.

So, started with this model. This is not my paint job. I think I pulled this image straight off the GW site as a reference.

This is my WIP Khorne Lord of War

Haven't updated this in a long, long time. However as I'm sure with everyone the Corona Virus has everyone staying home more often and doing more painting. I've recently tried to upgrade by weathering and basing skills and I thought the Lord Discordant was a good model to start out on.

Please take a look at some of the basing and weathering details. Let me know what you think.
