Hi,

I am basically looking to change the green theme for a necron army.

Would it be best to buy new rods? Or what does a completed sprayed/painted rod look like?

Thank you

If you're not gonna use the green ones anyway, just paint one and check it out

Don't the green ones come on green sprue?

Cant you paint that to see how it looks without risking losing a rod?

I'm not a necron player, so I don't know.

A painted rod looks like any other piece of plastic that has been spray painted and the effect is completely dependent on your skills. Here's a decent one I found online:

It doesn't have the same feeling as the transparent rod, but it doesn't look bad either.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Great ideas, I'll paint the sprue and see what that looks like, although that picture seems good to me.

Thanks everyone.

I have a Necron army in Maynarkh style (rusty metal, glowy orange).

I have painted the rods, which was a nice exercise in blending. They are not easy to prime though.

Attached is a WIP / almost done photo, the warriors are all finished.

if you are going to paint them, give them a quick sand first. Helps the paint stick

I replaced mine with bits from the Ark. This updated my Warriors to the new look.

I updated my Destroyer Gauss Cannon in a manner similar to what this guy in BoLS did. I didn't go as over the top with the flair as he did but our guns are otherwise identical.
