Hey everyone! Ahhhh the deathwatch miniatures are so beautiful, and I couldn't wait to get into all of the stuff that I picked up from the local GW on release day.
This DW force will be somewhat small, and will serve alongside my bigger Ultramarine force (Blog: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/368000.page)

To be honest with you all, i'm too excited to create a proper introductory post, and want to get straight into the pictures - but I will say, look forward to a bunch of updates this week, because i'm on break from uni, and am basically just painting all day every day!

Anyway, here is the test mini that I painted yesterday - he is just a regular veteran with a PW from the Raven Guard. I am currently working on my own Watch Captain, called Lenartes, who is a Dark Angel (I purchased the DA upgrade sprue special just for him, and can't wait until he's finished). I will post pics of him hopefully tomorrow when he is finished as well as the force as a whole as it stands so you guys can see numbers and the like. Enjoy this new blog! Really excited and reinvigorated for this cool project.

Cheers,

LDP

EDIT - Any exceptionally loyal followers of my Ultramarines blog will remember that roughly halfway through the blog, I changed the power weapon colour from blue to green to better contrast the cobalt blue power armour colour - let me say what a pleasure it is to paint blue power weapons again! This is the colour that they should be if you ask me!

Mate, you know how to kick these things off in style! He's awesome!

Will you be converting these as much as the Ultras, or going a bit more stock?

How much of this is just a showcase force, and how much to play?

There are sooo many options, but (IMHO) once you start adding them to the marines, they go from pricy to crazy pretty quick. As I was looking at my box, I wowed over the bolters. Look nice, probably the basic option for the guys. What to put in the off hand? Power swords. At full price. Nope! Looks cool, but I don’t need everyone in the squad at ~50ppm.

Anyway, looking forward to what you put together. Even if they are not Ultramarines.

I echo what Nevelon said, he looks great though! I still love the glass look on his helmet augmentation.

@AoV thanks buddy

@WarbossDakka I have it so bad I can't even explain man hahaha - Mk.8 is so badass! Also i've been begging for a chance to do some other chapters and DW is the perfect segue

@Paradigm cheers man, I am planning some kitbashes - as you shall soon see - but largely the force will be a little more vanilla in terms of assembly

@Neve it is largely a showcase force - the Ultra blog, if nothing else, has shown how uncompetitive a gamer I am, I just lovely making lovely marines, and then using them on the table. I'm really not concerned with how competitive the build is.

Anyway, I finished Lenartes today and OH MAN! Painting Deathwatch is fun. This miniature was very satisfying to work on and i'm so thankful for Duncan Rhodes as I truly feel that he's made me pay more attention to every little detail - and I hope you guys agree that I feel this model does that mindset justice. So chuffed with how the sword came out. I've also made a start on my third miniature, a blood angel with a frag cannon. Here's Lenartes

Cool and crisp as always.

I got a laugh out of his high-tech targeter on his pack and ginormous winged helm. I can see him complaining to the tech marine that it’s busted, "it keeps reporting avian foes at less then a meter distant”. The going on some rambling rant about how the old stuff in his chapter’s armory is more reliable then this new fangled Mk. VIII stuff.

That is awesome! You can definitely see the Duncanian influence (yes, that's almost certainly term now!), but its the little details, neatness and posing that push it over the edge!

Nice stuff man! Duncan is an absolute hero in all senses of the word, and I would totally recommend getting yourself down to the next Warhammer Fest to have a chat with him. He has loads of useful info on hand.

Flawless work LDP, you have totally nailed the black power armour. I really love the variety you can get when mixed with other Marine kits as your Lernartes kit bash shows, and that plasma pistol....wow.

@Neve hahaha yeah he totally seems the type to ramble on about his archaic technologies

@Para cheers man - yeah I genuinely feel as though Duncan is practically single handedly turning my life around

@AoV thanks as always my man, too kind

@STG There's a beach in Wellington, New Zealand called oriental bay. All of the sand there is artificial so I scooped some up into a container and use it to base my minis I also throw some little rocks from the old citadel basing kit in there for variety. Those are the ones that are grey instead of brown. The brown paint process is Rhinox hide, then an overbrush of bestial brown, and a finer overbrush of rakarth flesh. The stone is done using mechanicus standard grey base, overbrush codex grey, and a finer overbrush of adminustratum grey. I then wash the whole base with agrax earthshade to bring the two colours together, and finally apply flock.

@WarbossDakka hey man i'd love to do that. Living in New Zealand presents some geographical difficulties, but one day that'd truly be incredible. Are you telling me you've spoken to my. Rhodes in the flesh?!

@Thraxas Thanks a lot my friend, very kind of you. I had a blast painting Lenartes because of that DA upgrade sprue - its so awesome!

I love your Ultra Marines and I think I love your deathwatch even more!

If you don't m ind me asking, what colours did you use to highlight your black? I feel Eshin Grey is too dark to show up and anything else is too bright

Also, what was your opinion on the kill team kit? I am just curious as I got my hands on a box and I was ecstatic throughout, probably the first time I had fun posing Marines (that aren't puppies) in a while.

Keep up the good work!

Looks awesome! Nice simple pose that says he means business, great attention to detail as ever.

Are you using any kind of photo editor? I find playing with one of those can help with sub-optimal lighting. This is a great free one if you don't have anything:

@gummyofallbears I enjoyed the kit, some really nice bits in there, like the swords, hammers, heavy weapons, legs and cloak bit - a little disappointed with only 5 helmets but the legs are a huge improvement on previous SM kits if you ask me

@Para i'm not using any editing software, no. Cheers for the link

@WarbossDakka I use the GW artificer layer brush for all of my highlighting. a loyal little brush, that.

Hey folks - trucked away at a lot of the Watch Master today - a really tough miniature to paint i've found so far, but patience helps to work its way around all difficult bits in the miniature. I've sort of had to paint him from the inside out, doing all of the deepest parts first because mistakes were inevitable with this guy, but most of those tedious parts are out of the way, and now its just the fun stuff, so i'm really looking forward to finishing him off he's going to be an Imperial Fist, by name of Axios Jett, but i'm DREADING freehanding an IF logo in that tiny circle on the eagle pad, but it will be a learning experience either way.

Anyway, I took a few shots throughout the day, the last two are where he's at currently. The gold is very early stages, so it will be made less flat and will fit the aesthetic much more when it's complete. I'm pleased with how the cloak is looking - it's the only finished part so far

Thanks. I feel my edge highlights are too thick, and was wondering if you used a super thin brush!

Also, when I said about going to the next Warhammer Fest, I totally thought that flag in the top left corner was a UK flag My apologies!
