Genestealer Cult War band - Part I


Hi All,

So I thought I would bring the second half of the talent and interest to the blog with the converting up of a Genestealer Cults War band.

So I am creating a back story to this band of Genestealer Cults and will post that soon so stay tuned.

First up as the popularity with the new models it has been a bit of a mission to secure all the models I was after to create the war band. However this has allowed me to concentrate on one model at a time. Every War Band has a story and as with most 40k armies a tale of there deeds (heroic or sadistic) on a standard. I think the rules for the Standard on the Acolyte Iconward are a great buff so I decided to Convert up my own custom icon and I think it talks a bit about the back story. Ill let you be the judge.

The skull is that of there former Patriarch who was killed when their cult was discovered too early. Their cult was all but wiped out save for this war band.

Those who took out there cult have a special place on the standard as the survivors took numbers of their own. The Captains heads of the Blood Angels force that boarded their infected Void Station hang beside there former messiah.

Ok so after much fiddling and working here is the rough design of my aborant.

Still need some green stuff to cover the last khorne icon and to give him the aborant kilt.

Looks like you are off to a great start. The icon is very well done, and will probably serve as inspiration when I make my own - as I plan to do since I can't justify $25 for the official model, and would really prefer something a bit more personalized anyway.

Your Aberrant is also pretty cool, and a great use of an impressive model.

If you have any marines in ur bits box or mates that do kit bashing would be so much easier.

he Iconward model is exactly the same as the acolyte hybrids and the neophyte hybrids come with a standard that I used for this conversions base. The ends were just cut off blades from the acolytes.

Very cool, i'll be watching this.
It's probably better in p+m blogs though.

What bits did you use for the banner? I also want to make my own iconward. Been having a little trouble finding bits to get started.

The banner can be made on the cheap and look just as great

The featured banner was made using the banner from the blood angels command squad with the two heads from the same box. The top icon was take from the hybrid neophyte box. The ends were made from spare acolyte hybrid arms and the center peice genestealer patriarch head was cut from the current broodlord model. The rest of which is being made for a diarama in my siege of vraks vol 2 army. The chain i stole from out of my misses jewlery box :p

Some other ideas i looked at were the metamorph heads but there currently out of stock. To make a patriarch on the cheap i was looking at crossing a genestealer head with a tyranid warrior head or even making my own patriarch using a zoanthrope cross to represent mastery lyl 2. Bugger brain more psyker pain :p

For my warband to fit its story the new patriarch will be an infant carried by the magus to show they had to concieve from a forth gen to start again and the new messiah will be still a baby.

Any other conversions you need help with I have far more ideas than money so am happy to share and see them done
