Dear fans of Wild West Exodus,
Over the past four years I have gotten the opportunity to entertain every one of you with our great game. From the early years of Wild West Exodus, I had a vision to create a game that made people happy. I wanted Wild West Exodus to be something different and something cool to the gaming world. After our first successful Kickstarter I knew we had discovered something that would bring years of enjoyment to the masses. You the fans made that all possible by not just supporting us with our first Kickstarter but continuing to support us months and years after.
The dedication you as players and collectors showed us is what helped us get so successful. We carried that energy and success into our second Kickstarter campaign that also reached numbers we never expected. Your support for us and this awesome game is what has driven us to produce our miniatures. It has helped us to create exciting story lines and characters that anyone can get invested in. Your support has pushed us to get better at model design and the overall look of the world. For this support we thank each and every one of you out there.
As many of you have noticed over the past few months our team has gone a bit silent. This silence in no way signaled an end of Wild West Exodus or the respected brand it has become. Actually, the exact opposite has been taking place in the deep underbelly of the Dr. Carpathian labs. Over the past 12 months I, as the creator of the game have realized I needed more help. I realized that it takes a team to build and progress a game like ours. A team much larger then what I personally was able to put together at Outlaw Miniature. I and the rest of our staff felt that if we wanted the game to be incredible that something would need to change.
This change required a major decision to be made. Look at hiring several more people to progress the game, or sell the company. After many months of discussing the options and looking at what would be best for our fans, we decided to sell. The reason for the sale was simply to guarantee the game would continue to grow and actually get better. A larger team run by a dedicated staff would mean a second rule book, more factions, even better models, and so on. All the signs pointed to pulling the trigger and finding a buyer who has the knowledge and business sense to take over.
I needed to make sure that the buyers had the same vision and would dedicate themselves to carrying the torch forward. After several offers and many conversations the best possible buyer was found. The team at Wayland Games Ltd agreed to purchase Wild West Exodus and all of its assets. The purchase required both parties to discuss how the future of WWX would progress. The vision had to be there and the drive to achieve it needed to show. Wayland not only showed the interest but assembled a team of dedicated staffers who will push the game forward.
Effective today October 21, 2016 Wayland Games Ltd are the new owners of the Wild West Exodus brand. I will still be involved with potential future story and character creation as needed by their team. I will always be available to talk to our fans and discuss the universe of WWX whenever needed. My love for the game and its characters has not lessened in any way.
I personally feel that this change will bring success and growth to an already popular game. Wayland Games and their Wild West Exodus team have many exciting details to share with everyone over the next several weeks. Stay tuned to more news and highlights of what is planned and when it will take shape.
I personally thank you all again and wish Wayland Games all the luck in the world.

Not surprising, especially when the creator refers to the game as the cheap whore that people pick up on the side of the street.

At least they managed to get the second kickstarter out before selling it.

What? Some sort of history there?

No, it was how Romeo referred to his game on a podcast. Maybe the D6 Generation? They had him on for an update on the game, and he said that gamers have one game they treat like a wife, one game they treat like a mistress, and then games they pick up like a woman on the street. And WWX was of the third kind.

...oh. Huh. Well, that's a thing. That analogy's kind of unpleasant even before getting to what a designer thinks of their game.

Well, I've been fortunate enough to buy at least one of everything from the game. I throughly enjoy the game, as well as my gaming group. The models are great, the game and theme unique.

It will be interesting to see what wayland games does with the game.

The first thing I'd do is make the spoken of updated rulebook. Then I'd make a 2.0 card pack with PHYSICAL cards. They could still have the print and play ones, but going solely digital really hurt the wwx community. The entire forums went quiet after that decision, and the fact that folks who voiced displeasure were shot down by others in the community.

Remember wayland.... physical cards, physical cards in packs with units.

I thought the game might be sold, though I don't know if it has much hope of survival without some serious promotion and, as others have said, addressing the rules/card issues. The base game is loads of fun, the miniatures top notch, and the setting quite interesting. It really wouldn't take much to get it where it needs to be.

Does Wayland have any history of producing games? I really don't know much about them (and what I have heard has been not very positive).

I backed both KS and I'll echo that the models are great... the resin is a really good mix as well IMO, very sturdy in comparison to other stuff I have seen (similar to Trollcast almost in resiliency).

I got why they went digital on the cards, but really it just made the game come off as still in Beta. Agree they need physical cards going forward. I'm curious for what this means for distribution in the US, since its being sold to a UK company. Not like you could get it many places as is. Didnt they have some kind of rules on selling online or needing a physical store? It struck me as weird to have plastic tooling for cheap mass production then take steps to limit the expansion of the game. For me, that just meant I basically only ordered direct, and only during their Black Friday or 4th of July sales.

I am wondering the same thing. Would also like to know if production quality will change. I think Outlaw had the miniatures cast in the US, and if so will that change with Wayland being in the UK? Will be very interesting to hear from Wayland concerning their plans, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I've ordered from wayland games in the past. Shipping is very reasonable and fairly quick (5-10 days). I have no issues ordering from them.

I never picked up any of the minis because the prices just weren't attractive. Is there a chance that Wayland will make the plastics a more appealing purchase?

Supposedly an announcement from Wayland is expected next week. I am guessing some of the questions will be answered then.

I've had Wayland stuff arrive faster than stuff I've ordered in the US in similar time frames. That says something.

I wonder what this will mean for the usual Black Friday sales?

My problem is I'm a cheapskate when it comes to expensive resin figures, and only seem to order whenever a significant discount is being offered.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Oh well, I suppose this means when Wayland claim to have items in stock for this it might mean they're actually telling the truth and not lying just to get you to spend money, not contact you for 2 months, ignore every method of communication you try and finally beg for more time to get things ordered (Really Wayland, the two-and-a-half months you've had so far wasn't enough?!).

That's very good news for me. Means that

1) I won't have to give money to Romeo and
2) Us Europeans will be able to get our hands on the game and models easily!

I hope they get some kind of distribution in the US though, as made evident by the number of US flags in this thread basically all the players are American. I imagine they will move production to the UK as their first order of business.

Meh. So Romeo finally milked the cow dry, and is now selling the corpse...

It's a shame really. Such a cool concept, solid rules, awesome models - and the whole thing riven into the ground by the ego of one person. Ah well. It can't get much worse under Wayland, so that's some light at the end of the tunnel, no?

I think it's not how the designer sees the game, it's how a lot of the customer base treats the game. I think it's pretty accurate and also the reason why the game was sold, that, and the horrible distribution to Europe. For most folks it's not their main game, it's not even their fallback game, it's the game they like the idea of, but is that game you have lots of but don't play all that often. Similar games include Battletech, Heavy Gear, etc.

I think Wayland can do a LOT better then Outlaw Games could do. They have been selling games/miniatures world wide for quite a number of years, so distribution isn't an issue imho. Wayland is untried in the games development department, but you can hire talent for that. Also because it's not their main income stream, it's selling games, they can do stuff a games only company can't do. I do hope that Wayland will do more plastics, that's why I never started. I also hope that pricing is going to be a bit more 'competative', the starter looks like a great price, the rest just isn't priced that great.

American dakka members should be jumping for joy. With the pound going down like the Titanic, and Wayland being a British company, our American friends will get it even cheaper, and it'll boost our exports and thus help our balance of trade.

I didnt think they were that bad for a skirmish level game. Malifaux is $11 for a single plastic dude, WWX is $14 for a resin. Problem is you couldnt get them anywhere that offered discounts, so we were conditioned to wait for the big sales and get them 40% off. I imagine that makes it less attractive for stores to carry.

The plastic infantry was a good deal, $35 for 10 uniques is hard to beat outside of historical mass battles.

I wonder if theyd have better luck with market penetration swapping the single characters to metals?

I've never seen their plastics at $35. More like $50. Is $35 really the MSRP?

Well let's hope this gives the game a bit of impetus. The models are great and setting is very cool. Hopefully, with an updated rules set, physical card set and some decent promotion, we will see the game get a bit more of a following.

Yes, the sets of HIPS plastic "Hired Hands" (10 unique models) are $35.99 retail price on the WWX web store, though I have seen eBay sellers trying to charge much more (and to be fair, I think at one point the MSRP for those sets was higher). There is also the plastic "Wayward Eight" boxed set (the Firefly homage set) which retails for $69.99, I am guessing these are more expensive because of a presumed wider audience.
