Off the shoulder of Orion

Now that we are posting these a little more regularly, the story should start to make a bit more sense (always hard when each installment was months apart)

As always, the previous games can be found here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Gordy2000%27s_Battle_Reports

Just a short game this time - you'll understand why once we get into it. The game is set immediately following Baalor's annihilation of the Angels
of Thunder chapter and the capture of the prometheum mines. The chaos force has set up a defensive perimeter around an LZ as they await
transport back to their fleet in orbit.

But hidden in the foothills nearby, a new enemy is waiting...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The shimmering holofield masked the approach of the eldritch raiders. aboard the lead Wave Serpent, alien eyes watched the chaos force
preparing for egress from the planet surface.

The Farseer cast the runes on the floor of the transport. each psychically imbued wraithbone piece took up a slow dance as they twirled around
each other, drawing arcane symbols in the air.

"Now my children - the fates are aligned - strike! Strike now and seize the pawn of the Dark Gods!"

The convoy of skimmers swept down from the low hills and sped into the attack....

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The field of battle. The Chaos force is spread out around the LZ, with the mine head to the right. The Eldar force has both hidden and random
table edge deployment .

Surprise! The entire Eldar army deploys right next to Baalor and his retinue (which also happened to be the Eldar mission objective)

The rest of the Chaos force, deplyed around the LZ, suddenly find themselves hopelessly out of position

But like any self-respecting Chaos Lord, Baalor immediately goes into attack mode, assaulting the nearest Wave Serpent

More Eldar pour from the hills

Dodge This!

Meanwhile, the second serpent unloads a squad of scorpions and Karandras himself

Unsurprisingly, the first serpent does not survive the attentions of Baalor and his retinue.

But they may have kicked the hornets nest, as harlequins leap from the wreck

Seeing the greater threat, Baalor detaches and challenges Karandras to single combat. The two mighty warriors square off for an epic clash....

....which immediately becomes a one-sided affair when Baalor's daemon weapon rebels, wounding him and ruining his attack!

Both commanders are wounded, but Baalor is forced to teleport out, snarling a promise to meet the Eldar Phoenix Lord again soon enough

Meanwhile, the chosen retinue are overwhelmed by massed scorpion and harlequin attacks.

One of their number is dragged away alive by the Eldar, who break off with their prize and vanish into the webway before the rest of the Chaos force can engage them....

Victory Eldar!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Well, that's what sometimes happens with custom scenarios. The Chaos player didn't know what, when or where the enemy was. The all round
defence was good in theory, but in the end a lucky deployment roll had the entire Eldar force landing right on top of their objective. Such are the
fortunes of war!

Disappointing the title fight fizzed out thanks to a poor roll on the daemon weapon (Chaos is such a fickle patron). No doubt Karandras and
Baalor will meet again for round 2 in due course.

So the Eldar make off with a prisoner, but to what end? Who knows the purpose behind the capricious aliens....

Next game, the victorious Chaos fleet heads back to the main world of Triskelion V, holds brimming with pillaged promethium, along with a
multitude of the Lost and the Damned reinforcements. But in the void, the Imperial sector fleet is waiting for them in ambush....

Fleet battles! Boarding actions! Oh my!

Stay tuned!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Baalor stalked into the dimly lit chamber, scattering the menials and servants in his path. The room was a large circle, at the centre of which
stood a huge stone bath, filled with a churning mass of crushed imperial holy icons, relics, hexagrammic wards and the broken armour of fallen
Grey Knights. The very air stank of the pious and holy works of man. It was an anathema to the powers of Chaos and the room was one of the most heavily shielded and guarded on the flagship.

Suspended above the bath of psychic effluvia, Baalor's daemon weapon hung wrapped in chains secured by heavy pulleys. The warlord snarled as he saw it.

"Put it in." he growled.

Trembling, hooded slaves lowered the chaos weapon into the bath. The shrieking of the bound daemon within filled the chamber as it touched the sanctified water, sending slaves cowering
and clawing at their heads.

Baalor tunred to leave as a grovelling overseer approached him. "Master, how long will we leave it in there"

Baalor barely turned as he left the chamber

"Until I say so"

Loving this series

Boarding actions/zone mortalis stuff is my absolute favourite game mode. Harkens back to older editions of 40k before the proliferation of superheavies and GMCs, and even further back to Space Hulk

Looking forward to that immensely!

Also my Rogue Trader-esque spaceport factions http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/709686.page

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

Lastly I contribute to a blog too! http://objectivesecured.blogspot.co.uk/ Check it out! It's not just me
