I've been collecting Imperial Guard for Warhammer 40k for quite some years, mostly using the Perry brothers' sculpts. My focus has always been on infantry (I should probably start Napoleonics sometime...), and since I tend to skip from one game system and force to the next and back, it usually takes a long time to get anything resembling an army finished.

Still, the Imperial Guard is the collection I overall have most units finished for. There's Mordian Iron Guard, Praetorian Guard, Necromundans (Rogue Trader era figures) and some Catachans alongside other bits and pieces and not yet painted regiments like Vostroyans.

Starting with the Mordian Iron Guard, here's some images of the forces I have so far mustered.

Look great, you've taken some pretty cool pics too which really shows them off

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

Yeah, the pics are great. The paint scheme is pretty simple but very well applied. Nice cohesive army so far. Also nice to see Mordians actually on the table - they're exceptionally rare.

PS: Bonus points for picturing the best commissar GW has ever put into production.

I really like your paint scheme, it looks great.

I've found grey uniforms to be really hard to do well, my first Imperial Guard army was a mostly grey Mordian force, which didn't really work, but then I was using a much darker grey than you've picked. I eventually stripped my entire army and repainted them, having discovered Vallejo paints, I decided on a Foreign Legion scheme with khaki uniforms, red epaulets and white caps. Still got them in storage somewhere.

Good lookin' army. Well done!

Lovely work. Only minor critique is that the tanks look a bit monotone.

Thanks for the feedback!

The idea for the uniforms and tank scheme was to base them on no-frills Mechanicus Grey. For the tanks, I am leaving the option open to add further markings in future, but I want them to be predominantly grey without colourful squadron markings etc.

For colour, I've got the Praetorian Guard, also based around an infantry platoon. Only just finished this and now looking to add more tank support.

Here are a couple of pictures of my Praetorian Guard force.

They are really nice, the colors are so near and clean! The mordian tank does look a bit plain i agree, but that does fit the theme of the army.

realism is a lie

Very nice work! Agree the yellow makes the Mordians stand out quite nicely.

Looking forward to seeing what you have done with the RT-era Necromundians as well!

Love them. Always been a big fan of both Mordians and Praetorians. A big influence on me was the world's best battle report featuring Praetorians holding out against the Orks in a scenario built to mimic Zulu. Loved that WD.

Fantastic! Love the Mordian and Praetorian models. I also love seeing infantry-heavy guard armies. Top-tip painting throughout, and excellent photos. Well done, thanks for sharing!

Really nice job OP, I think it takes real skill to take a plain simple colour scheme (like the grey Russ) and give it depth and realism. Cracking job all round, and bring on the Necromundan Spiders!

Thank you for the responses!

I'm currently painting Catachan Jungle Fighters again. One infantry squad and platoon command finished so far, aiming for a small platoon with support.

I really appreciate your technique with these. As somebody mentioned above, you made gray exciting. Perfect balance of red and gold highlights. Well done.

The Praetorian look great as well.

Thank you for the feedback.

I've finished the infantry platoon for my Catachan Jungle Fighters. To complete the detachment, I'll add some fire support and a unit of Ogryns.
