So I'm playing with this as a scheme for my genestealer cults' bases - what do you think?
I personally reckon I've mostly got the weathering down, though I'm still not super confident about the chipping.
I'm pretty set on yellow and red and the dark metal.
But what do you make of the rubble and the snow? Too much? Too little? Too unnatural? Should I splash a bit of 'ardcoat about to make things look a bit wetter?
I'm also not totally sure about my process - this is going to be for both my 'stealer cult and my nid army, both of which (someday, if I could stop lurching between projects) I hope to be very hoard-y, as those armies both ought. - I think I may be able to skip a step or two? The prospect of doing this for like swarms of gaunts and legions of cultists is frankly, slightly terrifying.
(Only have black spray paint immediately available because podunk Korean town)
spray black, base averland sunset and leadbelcher
wash averland sunset on yellow, highlight with yriel yellow
red details with mephiston red then wild rider
thin down mournfang brown with a ton of water and kind of wash it over, mopping up the excess with a tissue
wash nuln oil
sponge rhinox hide then runefang steel
bit of typhus corrosion in the corners and around the odd rivet, drybrush some of that with ryza rust
astrogranite, drybrish dawnstone and tyrant skull, then wash nuln oil
snow
My idea is that the cult will be on a mining hive with perpetual heavy, wet snowfall - dark, cold and miserable, just the way I like it!
As always, thanks for looking! And cheers for any help!

You put more effort into your bases then I put into my models.
They look great. I assume you mix your snow flock with a bit of glue and water before putting it on the bases? If you want wet, heavy snow, I'd suggest more water or glue on the mix to reduce the dry, flaky look on the outside of the snow piles.

The effect looks good but the snow is a bit clean. Maybe add a bit more muck to make proper horrible black slush.

Ahh, thanks! I'm completely new to snow - I'll try that out! Thanks for the kind words!

Oooh, I hadn't thought of that! Do you know any good ways of making my snow look a bit grubbier? I'm having a glance about online, but haven't found anything yet...

On first glance, it looks more like sticky rice than snow. It's probably just me though.
It might want some water pooled in the base. If the snow is melting, it might form puddles.
If is it freshly fallen, maybe the snow is drifting into the gaps, not piling up.
But, if it is falling off something as it slowly melts, it will drop in lumps, like you have.
So, some context might help.
You're gone much further than I ever bother with, though. Good job.

Great work on those bases... as someone who has also gone big on scenic bases, I'd look for shortcuts on what you're currently doing in the name of time, especially with a horde army. Maybe base black, layer Leadbelcher, Averland, and Mephiston, and wash the whole thing with Agrax. It's the 80/20 rule... 80% of the output comes from 20% of the input. But by all means, save this level of perfection for your HQs and showcase pieces!
As for the snow, I'd take advantage of the 3D bases and really drift it into the recesses. Pick a direction where you'd imagine the wind coming from and pack your snow into approximately half of each recess and crevice accordingly. Google some images of snow on stone walls for an idea. Snow scattered on the surface of the base looks more like it was tracked there by foot traffic... If you stay with that you could add some fine railroad ballast or something if it's too bright, but I think the high contrast is what you want if you can get the positioning more natural.
Great work, love the attention to detail!

I can't offer any suggestions for improvement because - to my eyes - those look bloody fantastic as they are! Love the colours you've used.

You could probably wash it a bit with brown or black. (probably black)
also would be cool to gloss up some of the pipes assuming certain pipes are piping piping hot fluids of some sort.
but that would be hard in the recessed pipes
