Hello and good afternoon to all,

So to cut a long story short, I will be attending a event in February next year for Warhammer 40k, and require a 2000 point army to be fully painted and based.

I have chosen Imperial Knights and have had the models built for a while, however at the time I did not expect to be attending the event nor that I would be painting. I generally never paint and find it very boring, but thought the event would give me the chance to get some painting done and try to learn to enjoy it.

So with the Imperial Knights, they were already built, and sprayed leadbelcher as majority of the model is metal based.

I have started painting the armour panels with the base paint Averland Sunset, again my first time ever painting yellow.

Just wanted to ask how this looks overall?, tried to thin down the paint when using it but due to the silver it did take 2-3 coats. (Ignore the middle section of the main armour panel, work in progress etc)

Appreciate any comments and feedback.

Thank you

Looking good, that yellow is sharp.
Yellows and whites can be tough to "brute Force" over darker bases like black and Leadbelcher. I've found better results by layering a different color, like a lighter brown over the metals, then yellow over the brown.
Take some sprues, spray Leadbelcher. Paint one brown, lay the yellow over that and compare to what you've done. Easy test to see if that works better for you.

Its pretty damn good for first time. solid color.
and at 2-3 coats over black is pretty good

i dont think the brown undercoat is 100% necessary unless he was going for a shade layer for higher contrast if he is hand painting it. even over brown its not going to be a 1 coat and done with yellow :/

Put a base of a khaki or light tan down first and your yellows will layer over nicely.

Cheers for the replies all, appreciate it.

Which gw brown paint would you recommend?

Any. Just lighten it with your yellow or a white first. You want a lighter layer for the yellow to go over.

Thank's for the replies all, made some more progress today, not far off being done to a table top level which was my aim.

Quite pleased overall especially first time ever with yellow and not painted in years.

Yup looks like a nice and smooth coverage to me. Good job.

As someone who's long been a fan of yellow and has an army of award winning Imperial Fists. I can tell you that yellow requires Shading and contrast colour such as white blue grey black or red to effectively work. Blue White Grey are great for contrast Right now it looks clean but boaring.

Sand your coats of paint. Sand the yellow down before the next coat.

Yellow ink mixed with black for recess shading and panel lines.

Wet pallet is useful. Good luck.

Here's a wip of some Terminators in yellow.

For anyone else reading, my favourite strategy for yellow is to start with a medium or dark grey, highlight up to white, wash in Cassandora yellow. If you want, you can then highlight again with bone and glaze with Lamenter's Yellow. Works a treat.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
