Okay I'm nearly done with my first sisters of battle. Yey. Except I was told there's too much white in the model. Drat. I was suggested changing wings of seraphim into more contrasting colours and adding more black....

Now for black I'm struggling to come up place for it except for the wings. And for wings apart from black what other colour would be nice? Or is it fine as it is?

Opinions?

Too much white?

Ever seen White Scars?

If you wanted some alternate color to add in you usually add it to the corset.

No, there isn't too much white, but the sword has too much white on. You've over whitened the shine areas on the blade. If you tone those down, your problem will be solved. There needs to be a larger transition between the black to blue to white. I'd suggest using blue as a base, then shading down to black, and highlighting up to white. The rest of the model looks fine.

Heh my first thought for the comment was "do ultramarines have too much blue?"

But figured better ask around just in case. In particular the sword did look bit whitey as the second commentor said. I'll redo the blade next time I'll do power weapons with airbrush.

Yeah, at the moment it looks like a white sword, almost like a candy cane. It looks smooth though.

What QAR said. It‘s not too much white, but a more blue power sword as a contrast would do wonders. Otherwise great looking sisters!

Might I also suggest putting some green on the model? Possibly some moss on the stones? That will compliment the reds and put more contrast into the piece.

Agree with the moss idea.

Some moss in the cracks between the stones will make the base look old and pure in an arthurian legend kind of way that fits well with sisters and will work very well with your reds.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Hmm. Theme was spposed to be sisters defending their temple so old ruin with moss didn't feel right but I see the point on colour idea...I'll have to give idea(and refresh memory how to do moss) and try it.

They look great! I don't think there's too much white, but I do agree with QAR's advice regarding the sword.

Yeah, disagree - these are perfectly fine as is. I quite like it actually.
Might agree w the other comments about the sword tho, but it's not a big deal.

I don't think it's too much white but I concur with the sword, if the colours were reversed it'll be better.

If you wanted to add a different colour to the backpack 'wings' you could glaze on a deep brown from halfway, brushing towards the end, then drybrush/stipple on black at the tips for a simple burned effect?

At least you're painting yours, I still don't know what colours to do for mine

I like the model itself but I'd go gunmetal on the sword and wings. Lovely job.

It's not too much white, but I think your gold/bronze needs to be a few shades deeper/darker.

Btw when i was airbrushing swords the celestine one turned out less white. Is this more like it?

Slightly better, but the white is still too prominent. Your white wants to me a much smaller area. Let me see if I can find an example of one of my power swords to try and illustrate my meaning.

Oddly enough, the only examples I can find are both abaddon haha. You can see that the actual transition between the shadow and the highlight takes up most of the area. The actual pure white section is a thin sliver in the centre of the light areas, and touches on the edge highlighting. Hope this helps a little. It may be because you're using an airbrush. I find these sort of things are much easier to acheive using hand layering

Your sisters look quite awesome. I don't understand what the problem is or why people would suggest "more colors" as a way to fix something that already looks great.

I wasn't talking about the power swords. I agree with all of the comments on improving making the power sword really "shine". I was simply remarking on the same things others mentioned of "Is a White Scar too white?" or "Is an Ultramarine too blue?"

The white armor on the sisters looks fantastic. There's no reason to muck with it. It won't improve it. Your suggestion to add moss to the bases is a great idea and I personally like the idea of adding exhaust burn to the jump packs. But there's nothing wrong with how white the power armor of the sisters is.

Oh, yeah agreed. The white is very good. It's hard to get white smooth.

Amen. Most step heavy process I have done and first time I have done two mixes of colours(and seeing I'll be building army out of these premixed bottle of each).

I do sometimes get the feeling I should have gone for easier colour though!

Well let's see if I get tomorrow new go at swords. If not likely goes next year :-/

I have white sisters myself as well and used a bronze color for the exhaust pipes of the seraphim. That works great to create some contrast. On the regular sister I don't think there is too much white. You could have a look here for comparison/ideas: http://www.gwhobby.net/forum/index.php?topic=22877.msg420992. Definitely on board with QAR here, it looks good overall but there are things that could use some work as has previously been mentioned.

The power sword is fine but I feel the white could be reduced even further as it's standing out as the dominant colour still.

Total noob here... I think the white on your figures looks great. I would agree on base-coating with a slightly deeper/darker gold and highlight up from that. Provides better contrast against the white.

Love with working with gold. Hell, I just love metallics.

I am currently working on Lothern themed High Elves and use a lot of white, so always very interested to see how other folks handle white on their figs. Shading white has been a challenge for me. Too dark, too light, too brown, too black...

Maybe paint the vertical wings on the backpack part a dark grey/black. Make the Fleu de lis white or red or gold.

I was thinking that or gunmetal but I prefer metal.
