If you are trying to make it look like its glowing I think it needs to be highlighted all the way up to white. Your green is a bit too dark to believe it as glowy. Also on the model you will put it o you need to have the glow reflected there in order to fool the viewer into believing g the glow. If you haven't already check out some online tutorials on object source lighting. Takes a lot of practice
I would say though that the heat distressed muzzle effect is definately there

I have found this really good tutorial on Instagram.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BqrtoDVHdXm/?igshid=joh3chycsmnv
I have tried it one time with a friend on his plasma and it turned out pretty good. And I am about to to follow this tutorial again now to paint a plasmagun for my scions. Although I am gonna use different color because the weapon is green and I believe it will look better with red or blue.

Thanks for the replies.
This is what I was going for guys, not the glowing effect. I'm just not sure how they do it. I think maybe the highlight each coil individually but I can't tell

Practice. It's that simple. There is no easy fix here. Getting that level of detail is simply down to brush control. But don't fret, it will come with time.. Just keep working on those small details. Your paint work looks pretty decent, so you should be able to achieve that look with a little effort.
A good brush will help too. Make sure it holds a good tip.
A little cheat way to get a similar technique would be to drybrush the coils before you paint the rest of the weapon. That will allow you to get a gradient. Focus the lightest point on the apex of the coil.

Here it is guys, not happy tbh when I glued it on I had goblin green on my fingers somehow (from handling a hex pot) and some of it imprinted on the gun so I literally had to touch it up made the hold thing even worse again. I still need to do a decal on his shoulder pad but I'm waiting for some Microset to come in the post.
I think 3 days working on-and-off on one model is enough I want to keep the painting fun. Stripping things 5 times is not the one!
Cheers team.
Edit: By the way I managed to highlight the coils by using a brush with a bent tip, I used the bend to my advantage to whip it across the coils without the risk of any hairs stabbing in to the recesses, worked quite well. Got the result in the end even if it's not the same level as box art. The eavy metal guys/gals are pretty insane.

Buy a small drybrush and achieve 90% of the same effect with 10% of the effort.

Here's a blog I found, I do similar gust substitute the blues for green possibly upto a yellow

Deadshot has a good green but my be to bright for you

What's your method for plasma glow?
My blues look to common
Its quite straight forward. Start with a basecoat of Waaagh! Flesh, shade with Agrax Earthshade, layer over with Warboss Green painting in lines following the ridges. Then I repeat the layering with a 50/50 of Warboss Green and Flash Gitz Yellow. If its bigger coils like on a Plasma Cannon or above, I then do 1:2 mix of Warboss to Flash Gitz on the sharp edges. Moot Green can be substituted for the mix, I just don't feel like buying a whole paint just for the eyes, purity seals and plasma. Depending on the model I also do a very fine highlight of white on the corners but not usually. Then I glaze with Waywatcher Green to blend the highlights and hit it with gloss varnish.
Also thanks Rybrook and Tyranid Horde! Looking forward to seeing both your entries finished!

Thanks for the replies guys some good tips, I'll definitely give the glowing effect a go in future and go hardcore like glow on the armour/face too, I guess these coils are like uncharged or something and that's why they're not glowing.
So yeah the trick I found worked was using a tiny 000 brush with a hooked tip (it had been left in water accidentally) and I used the rounded part to highlight each individual coil without risk of the brush touching the cracks was quite easy in the end, I recommend it that method. I tried dry brushing but the problem is the recess is like 0.2 mm and a drybrush just gets paint in the cracks, I think that would work on the primaris plasma guns because they're a little more defined.
Nice one.

There are some acrylics called "Neon" paints you could try experimenting with. I find them in walmart crafts sections when they're not stripped bare like now.
