So moving right along with my HH project, here is a sampling of my Heresy pattern armour. I have about 7-8 of these guys so far, all made from the Tactical Squad box. It was actually easier than I had envisioned, once I got to work.

The leg cables were made with a bit of GS and the studs are some kind of dollar store bead/pebble thing I found. The heads, for those who don't know, are Kromlech Destroyer heads. They come with two different styles and I think both work quite well, the only issue I had with them is the neck joint is too tall and needs trimming. Luckily I was able to find enough Mk5 pattern torso fronts to not have to GS that as well.

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, I present one Mk5 Heresy Armour Marine.

I am not versed in armor patterns or HH armors types but,
Looking good!
Brilliant use of dollar store beads.

Thanks! So just a little FYI for funsies. Mk5 PA is called Heresy Pattern because it was the most common armour mark in use during the height of the Heresy. It wasn't exactly a standardized thing but rather a sort of salvaged battlefield refit. In the lore it says the armour varied widely in appearance and utility but eventually became more generic thanks to similar construction techniques. Most of the armour in a standard Tac box is Mk7, with a tiny bit of Mk4 and Mk8 bits thrown in for flavour. There is also some Mk6 armour in the Tac box as well, those are the ones with the beakie helmets. I am enjoying this project immensely because I've been able to get all my compulsory troop slots filled with 40K models and haven't spent a dime on any FW stuff. I've even got a custom HQ and bodyguard unit out of the deal so far. I'm sure the army isn't that much cheaper than buying FW since once you factor in other costs and time spent you're probably breaking even, but this way almost every model in the army has been customized. And while I've never played HH, or met anyone that did, I'm sure my effort will produce some viable street cred if it is ever viewed in person by a fellow HH fan.

It's a very cool conversion job! The armor studs look like they'll turn out well enough, and no one is likely to look at that model and call you out for the Mk7 and Mk8 pieces under the studs.

The effort alone is worth the pass in my book. It's certainly more work than I ever plan on putting in for a Tac.

Of course, I'm not planning to attend tourneys and have enough old official Tacs that I shouldn't ever need to use any of the printed squads, short of running a full FB Infantry list in 3000pts+ games.

I could have reshaped the knee pads and filled in the arms and such, but as you say it's a lot of work for a Tactical Marine. Thanks for the compliment though. I think this is the "bare minimum" for a Mk5 conversion, but it was still a lot of work. Each stud had to be predrilled so each Marine takes quite awhile. Not to mention having to let the GS cure on the legs before working. All very worth it however. I'm looking forward to getting them painted up, which shouldn't be too difficult with Raven Guard. They'll also be subjected to some extreme weathering, which I find always makes things look good without much effort. I'll tell you one thing, weathering was a great way to hide the mess-ups on my hand painted Lamenters badges!

Thank you for the breakdown! That makes sense now, having Mk5 armor with variations is narrative to the HH period.
Never played HH ether. Hope one day to make my way to UK and challenge WintersSEO to a battle

Looking good! The bonding studs are really well done.

The Kromlech helmets are quite nice. I can recommend their MkII helmets too. I've used a couple and they look quite convincing.

Thanks, they were a lot of work, but very worth it.
