Hi,
Here is my first take on Swooping Hawks for my slowly (very slowly) growing Biel-Tan army, I think it might be 11th edition before it is ready, but enjoy being back in the fold again after a very long break.

Cheers,
Oskar

Really like the clean, bold colours you've used. Very reminiscent of 2nd ed paint jobs.

This paint job looks super clean and crisp to me. I really enjoy the colours too.

Exactly what colour blue is that?

Thanks for your comments everyone!

The 2nd edition was when I last played 40K so probably where I got most of my inspiration colour-wise

Colours are all Vallejo Model Colours apart from a Citadel wash/shade. The Blue hawk recipe is:
1) Airbrushed Grey surface primer (73.601)
2) Airbrushed Light Turquoise (70.840)
3) Selectively applied Citadel Coelia Greenshade around most armour plates, just enought to let it seep into sharp borders.
4) Highlight armour with Deep Skye Blue (70.844) + Sky Blue (70.961)
5) A touch of Ivory (70.918) for the most extreme highlights.

Highlighting done mostly by thin layers, bordering on glazes. Usually with Thinner Medium (73.524) and water rather than Glaze Medium. I usually apply the brightest area on each armour plate first with slightly thicker paint, and then build back towards the base colour with thinner paint and finally reapply the outer edges if needed to make them a bit stronger.

Having just come back properly to the hobby again (and previously used oil based paints) I find that I change my technique a little bit for each mini at the moment.

Cheers,
Oskar

Amazing paintjob on an awesome model. Looks like I have got to go on a miniature hunt myself!
