How do!

With more such YouTube interviews popping up on my feed, and them proving rather interesting in terms of the history of GW, this is intended as a single repository for them.

It’s not really intended as a discussion topic as such. Just somewhere handy to get them all in one place for future reference, and ease of linking to as and when info they contain might crop up in other chats.

For example? Andy Chambers on Specialist Games, where he confirms Epic 40,000 did indeed drive away existing players, and failed to attract new ones, and so is seen as a mistake. Often claimed, often disputed. But horse’s mouth confirmation here. Amongst other things. Like Gorkamorka being developed in 8 weeks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5_YXx-whAE

Rick Priestly (part two pending) on early Warhammer editions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5wJk8_n-Wg

Part two of that interview!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BxYtJIWS7c

Rick Priestly again, on the origin of 40K

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMRcoiVeOII

So that’s three to kick it off. Please keep conversation about the contents to a minimum in this thread, as it really is just meant as a single “make them easy to find” resource.

Which edition of Epic is Epic 40,000? I can't keep track of them. I'm assuming thats different from Epic: Armageddon?

I thought netEpic was fanmade?

So Epic 40k killed the game, presumably becasue it added xenos? Did Epic Armageddon help resuscitate it at all or no?

Second Edition Space Marine had xenos, Epic 40k is third edition and according to a podcast I heard with the creator of NetEpic, they had an inside source at GW who was leaking the Epic 40k stuff via ICQ, so NetEpic was made in response to what the community saw as a wrong direction.

Are we including sculptors and other GW senior staff too? There's loads of them popped up recently too.

Right, I'll pull them later.

Here's one with Alan Merrett, including him talking about the end of WFB, and start of 40K and AOS.

Here's one with former CEO Mark Wells

Here's Gav Thorpe

Another one with Andy Chambers

I guess people figured out that these do well on YouTube but it really feels like a dam has broken on these recently, there's been loads.

Meant to post that Jordan series yesterday, but I kept listening to more while I painted.

Here are a few more:
Alessio:

Robin Dews and John Stallard hawking their book:

The Andy Chambers interview (previous post above) is good, but all his interviews tend to be.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another one with Andy (with a view of his shelf full of GW stuff). This interview covers more of his whole career, both GW and afterwards:

11:19 for virus bomb discussion:

An old 1996 interview with Andy shot with a potato-cam

And the emperor himself, Rick Priestley:

Another with bits about LotR SBG

lol I am absolutely here for this

Sort of on topic: has anyone read the Talking Miniatures book by Dews and Stallard? Seems nice enough, but I’m hesitant at the price tag (though I understand they printed it themselves (?)).

I read it. It was quite interesting and entertaining. I didn’t expect some of the interviews with people I wasn’t familiar with to be compelling, but they all were. Lots of nice photos of old gaming stuff too.

Definitely. I particularly taken with his approach. He’s just letting the person being interviewed, y’know, talk. No agenda being pushed, no particularly leading questions or arguments/assumptions/conclusions in search of supporting evidence.

Respectful, but not fawning.

The dude is a natural interviewer!

I feel old seeing old Andy Chambers. My mental image was always the younger long haired Andy Chambers from years ago.

I’d like to add that I massively appreciate how willing those being interviewed are to be interviewed.

For many, their GW days are long behind them. And they’re under no obligation to do these. That’s a dedication to the fans I think we can all appreciate.

Just found out we owe Mark Gibbons a staggering debt.

He championed Squig Hoppers, at a time the concept was in danger of being ditched!

Can you imagine?
