Oh the grinder is going well. I've been taking some figure drawing classes at a local Atelier, which has really helped my anatomical knowledge. There is so much that you can't learn from books...

So, lately I've been correcting some proportions and irregularities: hands and face mostly. I'll be breaking her up into more parts than the previous models. I got so great instructional books on sculpting and kitting Anime figure models off of Amazon Japan. I can't read the text, but their mostly step by step photos anyway. You would not belelive whats possible when you have someone who know what the doing!

I have a goal of having her cast and ready to ship out before mid-December. I also have some concept sketches to post up on the throne/walker when I get home from work.

Soulgrinder Concepts:

My new idea for the walker is that its constructed from: marble, precious metals, gemstones and silks. Having lots of mechanical grubbins isn't really working for me' Its not so elegant and a bit busy looking. Giger-esque style machine/flesh is yet another option.

Any way here the concept. Instead of having the occupant supported by a chair/throne thing. I would have 3-5 reclining figures supporting the riders weight. The figures would be very stylized golden statues representing the different aspects of Slaanesh.

Here are some figure studies, daemonic of course. The would be arrange around the pregger and support her with either 1-2 of their hands.

I kinda like how these turned out, I might clean them up and use them as either banner pics or "nose art" on some Emperor's children vehicles...

I threw this composite together to get an idea of the scaling.

I still haven't be able to come up with a satisfying way to fuse the walker legs into throne/dais. If anyone has a good idea on how to do it, please share.

More, when I'm not dozing off at the keyboard....Later!

Hello,
I like the people holding her up idea, as for the legs, that is a sticky one, maybe a paniquin? Carried by slaves? Not really sure on this one, I can understand wanting ot stay away from mechanics though. I almost think it could float as well, similar to the anti-grav concept of the eldar? Meh I am probably not helping much on this one ><. Good Luck, and if all else fails I would take a copy of her with out the throune and try to figure out my own

Looks good; the figure drawings are very nice, and will make some good banners as you say

As to the throne/legs, I would try for more of an Eldar Wraithbone machinery look. I think that would mesh nicely with the Geiger flesh/metal theme, but still have that 40k Slaaneshi feel.

For fusing the walker to its legs you could have hooks in the skin of the underside of the legs attached to chains on the metal platform in a kind of hellraiser style.

And back to this guy....

I been working on him since this morning and he's coming along great. I went to work on with with a dremel, a saws and a scalpel. So he now sectioned up along muscle insertions. I learned this new trick from these books:

I ordered them off Amazon Japan and the are gold for anyone wanting to get into sculpting larger (6-24") figures for reproduction. The are in Japanese which I'm learning and cannot read yet but contain hundreds of detailed step by step instructions. Far better than most video I seen and I have many.... Get them here Link and here Link and here Link.

What so great about this type of setup? Well the pieces that you'l need to mold are much smaller, allowing smaller and less complex molds. Originally I thought I would need to create some outrageously complex plaster and silicon matrix molds. Which honestly made me want to re-consider finishing this model.

For example:

Here's the torso sans the head.

Ordinarily you'd get a nasty seam line at the neck. Instead I cut the break point along the natural seam created by the collar and scapula bones.

No need to pin it, a film of super-glue readily will hold it place.

Torso:

I cut the legs off in away that preserved as much anatomy as possible without obvious seams. I also did quite abit of resculpting to correct the anatomy and proportions of the pectorals and shoulders. Still aways to go on the shoulders and ribcage.

Claw Arms:

I'm re-worked the joins for the claw arms into be ball and sockets for better pose-ability. You could easily magnetize them for transport for instance or posing.

Since were on the claw arms, those are getting additional details, such as spines and "teeth". I'm shooting for somewhere between a the GW KOS and standard daemonettes in terms of detail. Too much?

The upper arms:

Legs:

I'm in the process o detailing the legs and feet. Again making them more like the feet of the daemonettes and seeker mounts in terms of design. Just more robust and less delicate, given the KOS greater size and weight. The feet and claw arms will also receive similar texture details.

The Sword:

I'm thinking its needing some additional detailing. Maybe some screaming daemonette faces?

The Head:

I chopped the horns off for easier casting and allow for more options. The teeth and gums were removed for the dame reason. The dome of the head has be reshaped as well.

Having seen the new White Dwarf cover I might go with this head as an option:

Partially Assembled:

Disassembled:

Hello,
This does seem to ceartainly look better, and will be a boon for assembly, as for the claws I like the spiny ones personally, but thats me, there was a model that had a neat one that was closed as well http://www.allancarrasco.net/en/sculpture/commission-works/jmd-miniatures/index.html that looked nifty. Was rather toothy almost like a crocs mouth. Keep up the good work, and waiting to see how the Soulgrinder is going as well

Very cool man. Amazing what a bit of planning on the design before casting can come up with. I love seeing that sort of stuff explained, even if I don't do much casting myself; just learning tricks is great.

So, I've been working on the KOS and Soulgrinder tag-team style to get them done by Saturday.

Keeper of Secrets:

First, I've cleaned up the up the seems on the legs. So, when glued together they'll be nearly visible.

Progress on all fronts! The main claws are done, except for some smaller spike and texturing. I'm working on the head now.

Questions:

1. I want to do at least one alternate head, what would be best: a Minator-style bovine head, or maybe a tentacle face?

2. What else does he need? Piercings, spines? What?

Soulgrinder:

Change of planes, I'm now going with a suggestion from fellow Slaanesh cultist Rudkin from 40Konlinne. We're going back to basic simple on the throne design. Everything I'd come up with so far was overly complex and gaudy. So I going with simple harem style pillows and hanging bolts of silk. Simple, elegant, easy to sculpt...

It's a cop out I know; but the cushions cover up the dias, hide the join between the fleshy legs and the throne, and gives me and excuse to add some little daemonettes lounging around on the platform.

Anyway I went back to super-sculpey for this, why waste Aves sculpt. I'll be testing a new cyclonic oven that I bought to bake my clay sculpts. More on that later...

I like that quite a bit. Pushes her more towards "Queen of the Damned" sort of territory, which I thought some of the other ideas pulled away from a bit. To my mind it makes a really nice twist on the fertility goddess theme. And by nice, I mean disturbing and awesome

Considering it's very likely that I'm buying the male keeper demon you're working on (), I'd much prefer an alt tentacle face over a bovine head. The bull thing does nothing for me - ha, while clearly tentacles do

Great progress though, glad to see you return to him. Not sure on piercings and stuff, maybe some studs, clavicle or otherwise? Or what about suspension rings? His back is quite broad and mostly empty. And speaking of nipples, is he getting some? I can't say whether I need him to have them (though it's a major peeve of mine when she-monsters don't have nipples, let me tell you ) ...

Hello,
Well Sersi, I really don't think it is a cop-out as much a change in direction. I like the idea of the harem . I aslo have been working on the painting of the DP. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/327227.page at the bottom if you want ot look, sorry I didnt get on when you were ><. I will need to know when you get her cast though, as she has a home here (also as to when you want the deposit). I will add one pic here and yall can find the rest

More progess!

Keeper Of Secrets:

Okay the legs/pelvic tie-in are done. Moving on to getting the shoulder/arm tie-in to look good while hiding any obvious seams.

This turned out really nice, actually. Even without glue or magnets the arm stays in place. I still need to finish the opposite shoulder, and carve in the 3 heads of each deltoid muscle.

I cut the fingers off and repositioned them to make the palms of the hands wider as well.

In this picture you can see how the connection slides into place. I should be really easy to magnetize or just glue together.

I also finished the first layer of detailing on the claw arms.

Looking at my reference I still have some work to do on the socket were the claw arms attach.

Here's a better view of the socket. Its got lots of contact surface inside, so pinning shouldn't be needed. Gaahh.... I will be re-sculpting those serratus muscles as well...argh!

Right. Moving on...

Soulgrinder:

I bought this table top oven a couple of months back to bake polymer clay miniatures and one off 12" sculpts. But hadn't tried it out yet. Let me tell you this thing it sweet! Its got precise temperature control, and a built in timer. But the best part is that you can see inside it while its running, and it cooks by swirling heated air around the sculpt. Now I've baked lots of polymer clay in my time, but I've never had it cook hard without at least a little blackening and charing of the thinner parts. That is until now. Must experiment further....

Oh, and as a bonus you can still cook a turkey in the thing...don't tell the wife.

Here's the baked result:

I also started to chop her up for final detailing and molding next week.

That last picture right there even creeped me out. She looks like she should be in a roasting pan or something. Who wants a leg?

Moving on to other disturbing imagery....

Having some very scary searches on the interwebs... I've decided to go with a shackle bar of the the supporting arms, as it looks very stylized and extremely uncomfortable. A nice contrast to those soft fluffy pillows.

The legs will be shackled with a long chain that wraps around them, binding her so she can't move.

Additional Thoughts:

Finally, I'm considering having some tiny daemonette tormentors ride along; with at least one holding a long chain collaring her throat. I must sketch this idea. Perhaps have one sitting on her shoulder, guardian angle style. Another standing on the pillow whispering Slaanesh only knows what into the tormented Farseer's opposite ear.

Updates!

I'll keep it short for now and then come back and comment later...TTFN!

Keeper of Secrets:

Okay, we're getting close on this guy. I pulled out my anatomy book and muscle magazines, <hey don't laugh...there for research!> and used my dremel to carve some rough detail into him, as he was looking really smooth and flabby.

Next, I'll buff those areas smooth and add more putty to punch up the muscle definition a bit more.

I'm still working on a more basic head, as I'll be sculpting the variants heads after I get him cast, hopefully this weekend.

Lastly, I'm still trying to come up with a good texture for the lower legs and claws to break up the smooth surfaces there.

Here's his sword. I'm still not sold on the design yet, but all of the Slaanesh swords I've found look even more ridicules. So I don't know where to go with it. do you guys have a suggestion?

Finally, a couple of scale pics. That truescale marine is looking awful puny isn't he?

Terror Tots:

Yes...these will do nicely. Say, what size is a nurgling base and how many minis to a base?

Wow, lovin all the work and feth! that thing is far bigger than i thought! Awesome!

Nurglings are on a 40mm base and usually 4 or 5 to base, although i would suggest 3 is the bare minimum, anything more is fair game imo.

Hello,
Nice work, the "terror tots" are even in scale as if they came out of her . As for the "guardian angel", I really like this idea with a very thin gold chain, similar to when they train animals and fool them into thinking that they can't escape. A bit evil I know but hey .

Ghiest1:

Yeah, I'm liking the idea of the "Guardian Angels". I really love those terror tot models. I'll be sculpting some, for sure. I'd love to have them spread throughout the army. Riding on a Glutton's shoulder, or sitting on the Soulgrinder's knees for instance, or just menacing some of the larger models bases.

Thanks you.

Thanks, I've worked really hard on her but she's nearly done...

4 or 5 to a base, got it. Yeah, with his sword the Keeper's close to 9" tall. So, comparable in size to Forgeworld's Bloodthirster.

Oh, I still ship international. I'll have to fix the shipping info on eBay; but I can definitely ship to Denmark.
