kenshin620 - Thanks!

Have been work-logged for a few weeks, so no real progress, hope to kick-start again soon... on a good note, have been getting some painting practice in on new Blood Ravens (see sig) and have narrowed down the possible paint schemes to 2 - test models hopefully complete this week!

Rawson, bigmek35 - Thanks!

After a long work-related hiatus I finally have some construction time coming this weekend, so more pics soon!

On painting - A while back I had the following conversation (on Warseer) about color:

AtmanAbecedarian said:
Bone white would be a good color. Blue gives you a lot of options that it won't clash with. What about a metallic? The image of a deep blue with a dull metallic grey seems fitting to me. Just a thought.

To which Lamby answered:
I had thought of a dirty metallic but with the new Grey Knights out there's just too many metallic mini's getting around imho!

But after many attempts at white (takes too long to make look nice) and bone (just ick!) and a mixture of the two (baby poo brown being the result!) in the end I've come back to metallics haha!!!

Pics tomorrow of 2 test minis, one in metal and blue (World Eater splinter group) and one in metal and green and bronze (more home-made Legion of Thorns scheme)... and then I'll be asking for help to choose!

Paint scheme tests:

First, the blue metallic scheme (intended to be a World Eaters successor):

and then, the green metallic and bronze scheme:

(Ignore the eyes - I forgot to finish them before taking the pics)

Haha - these two loyalists were captured and painted in the colors of their enemies... and one of them lost a leg!

(In other words, these two 'spare' marines are my many-times-painted test marines... and one of them lost a leg!)

Green + Bronze test scheme with black weapon:

Probably need to make the green tinge in the armour less subtle, and may use Hawk Turquoise to add some spot color in the form of verdigris on the bronze?
Any suggestions, Dakka?

It's not that I don't like any of them, but none of the options so far have any 'pop' (oddly enough, that came out 'poop' on the first go). Maybe the more green version would look good. Let's see that! What about doing a grey primary color instead of metallic? You could still use the tinge of green idea even. I also think there are too many metallic marines running around these days.

Keep it up!

Tried the helmet bronze:

Personally, I think the silver looked better - going to try black next.
Keep the suggestions coming!

Go with the blue shoulderpads, it links them to world eaters more easily, the green brass mix is too nurgly in my opinion.

dantay_xv - Thanks - Blue shoulder pads is definitely leaning toward World Eater's successors, so here's another color test, in blue, now with bronze trim:

and a backpack shot:

mmm... maybe a bit too Ultramarine with the trim?

Pluxtheduck - Thanks!

Miss Dee - Ok, let's try a darker grey/blue metal, but with the bronze pads and backpack to try and get some pop:

I like the beaten look of the bronze and I think the blue/grey metal looks better than the green... mmm

So, what next?

The blue/silver with bronze is my favorite so far, but it still seems like a lot of metallics. It might just seem that way now, though. Once the eyes, skulls, wings, etc. are also done, maybe it won't be so shiny.

Rawson - Thanks! - will try more dirtying down on the next test models - instead of the silver metallics, what about Codex Grey, glazed blue and scratched with silver?

Since these two loyalist scum are basically clogged with too much paint, I bought a CSM 3-pack that'll be the next test models.
But before getting to those I did a cheeky backpack swap onto the World Eater guy:

The silver and blue, with bronze trim looks wicked, again the brassy-ness ties into the modern worldeaters and their liking for all things red and bronze.

Blue bakpak with bronze trim

Very nicely done

As I said before, some of the coolest terminators I've ever seen.
They look much taller, and much more intimidating!
Can't wait to see the Termie Lord, if the normal termies looks this cool, then he will be amazing

tipios - Thanks all round!

LiveforFun666- Thanks again! - Termie Lord is almost done, unfortunately I'm awaiting a final bit and it's taking longer than anticipated.

Just for fun, tried a blood red and bronze scheme:

I'd learnt while doing the Blood Ravens not to use to brown as a shadow or wash on reds... and subsequently did just that here!
If I go with this scheme I'll add more purple to the red, and use blue wash instead of brown.
