And @ Selvaggio/mr merlin, I did attempt to show that by having most of the scratches on it being horizontal (relative to the sub, of course) though now that you mentioned it, I realize it was mostly unsuccessful because the scratches don't compliment/interact with each other. Going along with what you said, I think that a few more larger scratches on either side that span most of the length of the sub would further solidify that theme. I'll try to do that sometime soon if I don't get too distracted with other projects, thanks for the input!

I thought of it for a campaign that I'm planning, and it's going to surprise both the ork and imperial players when it shows up(to the joy of the ork player) I just loved the ridiculousness of the idea and decided that it needed to happen.

Unfortunately I'm going to be on a several week hiatus as far as updates go... I make cakes every once in a while on the side, and my girlfriend's friend asked me to do one for her bridal shower. It's not great pay since it's a favor for a friend but it should be good fun nonetheless, as long as it comes out proppa. I'm going to attempt to make her and her fiance out of modelling chocolate, which is something that I've never done before, so it should certainly be an interesting learning experience (and one that I can probably apply to this hobby) at the least.

Haha whelp I have some pics of my chocolate progress...
Spoiler:
Of course, everything that can go wrong will, and still is continuing to... Though that is also in part because I've never actually sculpted people before, or used modelling chocolate for that matter. Waitasecond how did I get talked into this again?
First his leg broke off, then his head, then her head....
I wish I could wear chocolate pants...
Wait, even these ones are melting, no I don't.
Despite all the setbacks here's the dude so far, he's an officer in the army, so he'll be wearing his uniform:
I made the legs a little longer since I took this pick, he's looking a little short here
Only one arm and his head left, naturally I save the absolute hardest parts for last!
I decided that I would go with a familiar approach and sculpt them, then paint them with edible colorings, rather than try coloring the chocolate beforehand. I did this because I never made modelling chocolate before and was afraid that in adding color I would mess up the recipe (as I found out that nobody sells it) and none of it would work, so everything is white for the time being.
And as for the bride, I realized upon uploading the pics to the image host, that in her current state without a head or arms she looks remarkably phallic, so I'm going to hold off on posting pics till I make some more progress
Also, this time hasn't been a total bust as far as the hobby goes, I've been able to get the last two of a squadron of kanz all painted up in my spare time:
And the family portrait
EDIT I just realized I forgot to bloody up the last one!

When fighting orks, on land... Expect a f******* submarine!
Hahaha, I could picture my Shas'O going
"Bummer, didn't really incorporate THAT into my incredibly complex tactics..."
Anyways, great work man, keep on it!
You are amazingly adept at sculpting even though you insist that you are useless?
Hell, I tried making TERRAIN from scratch and failed miserably...

As for the chocolate, I'm very glad to say it's finally done.
Spoiler:
The thing was on saturday morning so by friday night I was going nuts to finish the two, and as a result, in my crazy rushing around I didn't take any damn pictures of the finished products! Though I did manage to nab a pic from facebook of the whole cake in it's completion... though I had nothing to do with the actual cake itself, just the people on it.
Here's a close-up of his half-done face
And here's them in their completion...sorry it's kinda far away, it's not my pic, but it's the only one I got of them!
She's got a bit of a...manly face here....but...at least it was a learning experience!
Thanks for sticking through this little detour with me guys, so now it's time to get back to me orks. And I've got quite a lot on the menu...probably way more than I could do in the next year...so I'm seriously hoping that this be an eventful month at least.

Whelp, not nearly as eventful as I had hoped, but at least I've started to get the third buggy underway..
Bought a nice landspander cheap on ebay, and the orks promptly looted it.
If you guys do get a strange feeling you've seen this before, it's prolly because I've definitely stolen several ideas from pics I found on the internetz
What do you think so far?
Some various parts that will probably find their place somewhere on here
I also got a bit more sculpting done for the squig. Still need to do teeth, a bunch more other details including scales, muscle, toes, and everything in between.. then make his leg a bit bigger to better fit the body...THEN do the entire other half. But if all goes well and it actually comes out looking nice, I might cast him up and sell him on ebay. MAYBE even do a few variations to do a squad of sorts...maybe for squig riders as a bikers alternative or something.
Actually, does anybody here cast? I've started casting little things here and there, but I bought some resin from home depot that feels very different from the stuff you usually see in this hobby, does anyone know where to get resin like that, that's relatively cheap? And also stuff to use as mold material? I'm currently using amazing mold putty and instant mold, but those are only good for small things, if I were to cast this squig for instance I would need a lot more material than the little bottles of mold putty could provide. I've heard of people using silicone but where I've looked it seems pretty expensive. Does anyone know of some cheap alternatives, or really anything to point me in the right direction?
And of course there's plenty of models still in the painting queue
Thanks!

I like the idea of making the squig cast with multiple bits, and i guess you could add some guns and have them as buggies for snakebite clans. everything is looking good, and sorry but cant help on the casting matirials front

Funny, that's actually the reason I started sculpting him to begin with haha... basically just adding some armor bits that the boyz tied/stapled/welded on to his sides/head and a grot with a rocket launcher on his back should do the trick...though I'm not totally sure I'm going to do that still, at least immediately.

Dammit thats where my insiration came from,,,, I have just started on my new deff dread I like to call him Mr stompy as he's got a veery similar pose to yours so far but I have done a little kitbashing/customising to mine... I'll try to remember to post pictures somewhere soon and put a link in here
so there's your one and now here's the deff dread i put together a few days after seeing that image
I changed a few bits and pieces like the feet, I couldn't decide if I wanted the claws or the little shoes so I used both... and I added both those drum barrel looking things to one arm and then added three dread combat weapons to it and I have magnatised the lower arms so I can change the weapons around endlessly
Progress coming along quite slowly lately, but still progress nonetheless.
She's all ready to be primed and painted all purdy-like
The ork's bodies (and obviously their respective heads) aren't glued in yet so that I can more easily paint them
It was such a joy doing rivets on this thing. Quick and painless. This required by far the least rivets of any of my scratchbuilds to date
And the thing in the gunner's hand is going to have a big red button on top--so that no matter how many times he hits his head against the dash while being driven around, it'll still be relatively easy to remember how to shoot the launcha up top

Woh, whats up with the ork on the rights arms ?? those look crazy cool. and the rest of the model looks good as well. you are very good at just getting these things done and made quite fast, impressive
Matt.Kingsley wrote:'Bigfish, Dakka's official Plastic-Fu master'
And yeah it is really crappy resin--it's supposed to be that color, it's very cheap. I did end up doing that with the driver arms simply because I ran out of any other arms I could use. And I've read a lot on it, and from what I've gathered GW is perfectly okay with the average hobbyist making a few copies here or there for their own personal models, just so long as they're not making money off it in any way...which I'm definitely not
