Hey guys,
I want to get a legal 2000 pt force done, before GTA 5 claims what is rightfully its. MY SOUL! Not far off finish bases here and there, and my big birds.
More another update, Shazam Slann! (not happy with the horns, so i settled, may go back in future)
Also done some work on the ripperdactls. Still wip, plenty more to do
I want to field a vanguard unit, simply because the srg gets a free lighting claw. So its like a BOGOF sale! yay. I’m thinking 5 guys with jump packs, srg with metla and lighting claws. They deepstrike and charge anything thats too dakka dakka or any big treads. Whilst my tanks just rumble all over the place. Bit pricey but i like it. i like it. Shame they don’t get decent of angels too. deepstrike on 1 d6 then charge.
As always comments and criticism all welcome, chow.

Hey guys, been a good old while since any update. My local gaming club (red steel preston)has started a army building tournament for 40k. I have no painted 40k force, so I thought I must join!
Ive decided to give the new space marine book a go and decided to continue that good old 3rd company ultramarines force i had my eyes on.
Here are a few wips so far.
The new squad to join caboose squad. The new tactical kit too, outstanding new kit, combined with the stern guard kit there are just no end of possible kit bashes .
Melta man
Srg. bad ass
The first month of the army builder was 350 pts, 1 hq and 1 troops choice. You can freely swap things around between months, after all its about building an army you want.
Second month is an additional 350 pts, you need another troop choice and then you can spend your points freely.
So my list will be a Captain (soon to be requisitioned) artificer armour and the burning blade. Not fully settled on this yet.
1st squad with vet srg, a melta and a plasma cannon,
2nd squad with vet srg, a melta and a plasma cannon, (need to find another plasma cannon)
And a legion of the damned squad with a plasma cannon, and plasma gun, and a power axe on the srg.
Here are a few shots of the existing painted part of the army, so far, other better pics are in the blog elsewhere.
As always comments are all welcome, or advice on future months of the army building or my current list.
Bye

Hey mein heirs, once more long time, no post.
With this month steadily approaching its end i have feverishly crafted and painted more ultramarines for my red steel force. Enjoy.
This happy chappy was a delight to paint, and im still wanting to go back and add freehand, battle honours and further go to town on him, however i will do so when he earns them committing feats that are noteworthy.
The brother captain: Either the company commander or a senior battle brother promoted to lead a battle group, im personally swinging to the latter of the two.
Next the second full squad (they need a fun name like squad caboose), (once again a few battle honours to add WHEN EARNT and a few transfers which will be added when the two rhinos are game worthy)
Been playing around wit ha new skin technique, a lot more softer and subtler, i will have to dig the HD cam out and take a proper pic to show it off more. I personally love it.
Finally a full shot of the army so far.
Cant wait till next month when the fun stuff gets added.
Viva la ultra!

Very nice work drake. Crisp and clean one but of critique that came to me was that I'd like to see the plasma glow on the heavy maybe a bit more neon green and less dark. Would enhance the plasma effect and provide a nice contrast. Small though but otherwise very fine and efficient work!
Cheers

I'm loving the work on the third company!
A while ago you asked for inspiration - how about some form of Tyranid veteran?
Sternguard or a venerable dread maybe? Something like the ultramarines ven dread onn FW with the warrior head

Ha ha, im some people... and i at least now one other guy who likes them.... just you wait untill they are painted and you will love them too
How have i not seen this guy before, he's perfect in every way! 3rd company are known as tryanid killers.
Sternguard are a must. ive had the good fortune of having 5 for my blood angels. And I’ve painted 15 crimson fists for a commission. And they are amazing! i hope to grow this army beyond the army builder league, so they will be added sooner or later, however that dread is on the buy now list

So sorry you will have to click on it for the bigger image, which is worth it. it was done with a pro cam. Real bad ass, its worth checking out some of the other armies too at http://www.flickr.com/groups/redsteelpreston/pool

Good heavens Drake! I'm so glad you posted on my blog or I would have missed yours entirely! This is fantastic work all-round! I really like the fact that you have a specific idea in mind as to how your ork's skin shade changes. I also have a similar idea (though I've gone in a different direction with it).
Your work is exciting and very inspiring. The fact that you do such a wide bredth of models so expertly is really impressive. I realize this is an old thread... but perhaps a bump will give it some of the attention your work deserves.

Truly high praise indeed, thanks very much! I have admittedly let this blog slip a little, work and such, but big things are coming, be prepared the guard are coming!

Thanks! Automatically Appended Next Post: And the slumbering dragon wakes again...
Now i love Commissars, just saying, they have a place in my regiment. But i don’t plan on marching blobs of 50 infantry across the battlefield, i plan and marching them 10 at a time, in squads, hugging cover, and supported by the barks of heavy weapons, and the booms of battle cannons. Thats my guard. (unless im missing over uses for him and his more lordy cousins?)
So this chap won’t be fielded much if ever. But he deserves a place amongst my company command none the less.
My favourite of the commissar models. Commissar Isen:
(Note, base is not finished. I’ve not decided on a finished basing scheme yet, but soon)
And atop a prototype colour scheme vehicle, (Salamander, for my platoon commanders. It will count as a chimera, but i feel they don’t deserve the actual chimera model. That’s a company command thing).
Comments and crit. All welcome. This is more of sneak peak of what i will be up in recent months. As the guard fever reaches critical levels in anticipation to the upcoming happening.

Wonderful work on the NMM... well, it's metallic but you're using the same process. In any case, great work! The red lining on the jacket and lapels just screams... perfect compliment for the black and steel of the rest of the figure.

Hey, quick suggestion for a squad to go with the Commissar. Round up all your sets of kneeling legs and kit out an entire squad kneeling with their heads bowed and rifles slung. Simple conversion to make a characterful unit kneeling at prayer while the Commissar reads from the scriptures. Booyah!

I was trying out new ideas, instead of washing all the metal i shaded the recess's, and added a little bit of blue glaze,

Wow its been a while. My resolve was found lacking by the commissar and i was punished accordingly. Luckily after the bolter shot the cog boys managed to salvage my skull and i now type as a loyal servo skull. May the Omnissiah be with you brothers.
A few updates on the guard. Alas not as much as there should be, but still a good amount to show off. But as you all should know, new book. That means new resolve.
Right let’s start with the newest editions to my force.
Scions
There are another 5 on my desk ready to be finished, looking forward to seeing them done and next to their taurox .

Heys chaps, second wave.
Next five scions,
The finished squad, with some lovely plasma goodness. looking forward to using the order ‘directed firestorm sanctioned’, twin linked and a 4+ save should make them relatively suicide proof. Fingers crossed.
Quick wip of the taurox, bit of an experiment if anything. I don’t know if i like it or not, i may continue doing stuff to it, but I’m fairly sure this will be a re-paint.
Finally, a lovely wip of my commissar, who I’m talking my sweat time on.
