Hmmmm, just skipping the standard trooper altogether seems like a bit much, to me. They're the backbone of the IG, after all. That'd be like not being able to play Eldar Guardians or Tau Fire Warriors. Nah, I reckon that they'll be playable in some capacity.

Oooh, that's just reminded me, we'd actually be seeing 4 IG regiments, if they were added. Obviously Cadia would be one, probably Catachan too. Who else? Steel Legion? Valhallans? Voystran? Krieg? It'd be nicely diverse regardless.

I've always advocated having ig troops as pets for a commisar or commander class player. One guardsman is too weak to be a fun and effective class for players. 10 though, backed by a commisar? Oh yeah. Tech limitations be damned

I have a feeling, there may not be an option to play as the "basic" Guardsmen, but probably a fire team leader or sergeant with mechanics similar to the Mastermind from CoV.

Have to say, dunno about each player having their own little gaggle of guardsmen to follow them around. Wouldn't things get very crowded? That'd be all (or most) IG players with an additional few NPCs following them around. Seems like it could put a lot of strain on the game's running.

Maybe I'm just being naive and it'd be possible to do it that way, but it just seems like it could be somewhat awkward.

It does look good, but I am also highly concerned by some things that the video shows. Just like Space Marine multiplayer, the TTK seems to be far too low, and this is just for basic weapons like pistols and boltguns! Imagine when the plasma weapons and power weapons enter the scene.

Do not like, do not like at all. Weapons in 40K are lethal, but PA has its reputation of tank-like resilience for a reason.

The resilience of the Chaos Space Marine NPC enemies in the Space Marine campaign are a good indicator of what's a suitable level of toughness.

That depends on whether you go by codex descriptions and GW rulesets (d6 and d100) or Black Library plot armour and FFGs games.

Given that this game will feature multiple factions/races, I'm not surprised they went with a more balanced approach. Though you'd also have to consider how a longer TTK would draw out engagements if people would just shoot and go back into cover and shoot and go back into cover without even coming close to getting killed due to their high resilience / health pool. Not to mention that you have to allow people to surprise and kill each other in close combat with at most two or three chainsaw strikes to make it a viable option.

Fix'd! And it's not like Space Marines can't do some really awesome stuff

High TTK would balance things out. You could live long enough to retaliate against a camper and would make melee combat an actual option for others than dedicated melee classes (which it is in 40K, if melee wasn't a common thing Marines would not be as good at melee as they are).

It is also more immersive. Obviously healing must be less powerful to compensate.

I hope Eldar have some kind of dodge system, because if they have anywhere near the toughness of a Marine or Nob that's just jarringly immersion-breaking.

Seriously, I can live with a little weird bullgak (Space Marine versus mode was close to the limit but I survived, and the balance towards other races than SM vs CSM is portrayed well) but taking the tabletop game 40k as an indication of anything is just weird.

Spoiler:

Looks like 2 attacks with 4+ to hit and 4+ to wound, and one T4 3+ wound to me, eh?

Just increase the TTK in firefights while keeping the TTK with melee as-is, it'll force people to assault enemy positions in melee opposed to the Planetside 2 style of firefights, where people spend up to two hours slamming each other with artillery before charging. Which while more realistic, this game is currently involving melee-heavy armies, and isn't about the Imperial Guard.

Plus there's also the ability of people to turn the tides in a firefight. Halo for example is a good example of TTK, as it allows skilled players to outmaneuver noobs and beat them senseless in a 1v1 firefight.

Gone-to-ground in the craters of Coventry

Everything I see about this game only shows Space Marines (and a few CSM).
I expect the other races are re-skins of these, and sticking to just 1 set of models helps with testing the physics. But, seeing some kind of work going into the others would be nice. It's not as though the Orks aren't already built, being a huge part of the Space Marine game.

But, any progress is good.

They don't have access to THQ's Space Marine game, not owning the assets and all of this was built by them.

I'd heard that, but a lot of it is very familiar. You've seen the grenade warning marker?
I'll dig further, but there's nothing in the FAQ about it.

Unfortunately. They have a lot of time to improve models, animations etc., but currently Space Marine is blatantly superior in that regard.

If you mean "like in the Space Marine video game, minus the magical self-heal", then I'd actually be on board for that.

And yes, they can do awesome stuff, but imho this should be mostly a concern for melee combat, where Marines would be feared most as they can pretty much fight like a small version of that ogre from LotR, just in power armour.

Honestly?

Space Marine single-player / Exterminatus did Marine toughness quite well, though they took some of the Marine's passive resilience and swapped it out for active resilience (ie selfhealing) for the sake of more dynamic gameplay.

Revert that swap and you have something very fluffy, although it is less dynamic.

Well I'd hope so, considering it was a finished game! If it was superior to it in Alpha that says..some interesting things.

Simple enough, they aren't THQ, they aren't Relic, they have no access to another companies assets.

I like that many of you are skeptical of the game. I would hope that you voice those concerns on the main channels the Devs are watching on their own forums. It's nice there, it's cool to talk to the people making the game on an almost daily basis and feel like your input is being listened to (because it is).... you know.. unlike another company we all know.

Anyway, this link will bring you there;

http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/dont-forget-to-vote-at-least-once-a-day-better-twice-d.43132/

Take a chance to vote and spread the hype! Our goal is 41,000 votes by Beta.

Btw, we're missing like 10 Streams and Mini-Twitches. Definitely check out the upcoming twitch on December 19th.
