So... Erm... well...

No Exo-suit?

Im kinda a bit disappointed that there is no Ripley, Butch or Exo-suits, nor the crews for both Hero/Heroine, fair enough I can understand why due to the timeline in the game, but I think the game will be missing something from that...

Lets hope for future releases eh?

Here is a set of resin eggs I picked up last month at a local gaming convention and painted. These are really top notch. Not bad for 5.00

I also picked up a set of metal ones from another vendor before my partner in crime saw the resin. They are a bit smaller but will work just fine. I attempted to create a base similar to the resin ones and I will make some of the tubes out of additional greenstuff. These were less than 5.00

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

Nice. Who makes the resin ones?

The company is called Windsword LLC. There is a website but when you try to view the site it asks for a username and password. Weird. There is also a phone number 215-885-6527 in Glenside Pa.

Jake, I ordered 2 sets of the below eggs earlier, and just got them yesterday. But honestly, seeing them I think I'll be adding Prodos' eggs now. I think these are too big to be actual size and may look out of place. Will probably try to sell the dozen of them for something like $15 shipped. If someone in the US wants them, PM me! I can take pics.

Yeah, I think I'll be going with these instead- 6 for £5.50:

That said, I think the above models might be a little bigger than they should be at actual scale, but that doesn't really matter to me.

So, probably going to allocate my pledge elsewhere than eggs at 4 for £10, but that's no biggie plenty of other things to get.

Edit: Went ahead and ordered 2 sets of the above in case the kibosh gets put on them by Fox, etc . Although since these have been around since 2009, I think they should be fine.

I would've been a lot more interested if there had been a Ripley figure. How can you have a line of Alien miniatures and NOT have Ripley?

@RiTides larger may not be bad depending on the size of the *huggers we'll be getting. Might wanna hold onto them.

"Size of the higher"? You mean the queen?

And you may well be right, however it turns out I've got a bit extra in my pledge and if I end up picking up the Prodos eggs I'd rather not mix them together. Jake asked me for a pic so they're pending, will take that tonight.

I got to go in to my FLGS last night and geek out about this with my friend who also pledged... with my alien swarm and his base board game and marines, we should be able to run some epic scenarios! Also thinking of using these for a scenario in Infinity with a bunch of Hungries (which look rather like Aliens).

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Ah, so this is where this thread went!

Just got an email with an update (interesting comment regarding the tiles, will no doubt make HBMC happy!)

Today we have a few bits and pieces to show you painted by our very talented painter. Some of you have seen these already, but we feel it is important to share it with the masses!

As for how things are going on behind the scenes, well, we are busy working on getting everything we have not shown approved by 20th Century Fox, to ensure that we bring you the most accurate miniatures possible!

This means that any updates we make will be in the form of a Press Release which will be approved by 20th Century Fox before we release it. Our intention is to release these every Friday evening as promised, but there may be unavoidable delays.

The next batch of renders will be made available in next week's press release, they are currently pending approval.

We have some very exciting news regarding our Double Sided Board Tiles Stretch Goal. We have commissioned a experienced artist to create the other side of the Board. The artist we are using has worked on a variety of high quality Board Games for some of the industry's forerunners. In addition, due to the feedback we received, we have decided to redesign the original Board Tiles using this same artist.

We are all very excited about the progress AvP is making here in the Prodos Cave and we can assure you it will be worth the wait!

Anyway, here are the promised pictures!

Well, whoever they have got working for them to paint is certainly talented! Only criticism I have is the net-wound on the head of the alien, reference to that crappy movie

Awesome paint jobs, but I'm not a fan of the poses.

I am also happy to see that they are redesigning the tile art.

Yeah, and to be honest that bothers me. When there is detail painted on but not present on the figure (like the green grid) it always makes me suspicious about how much of what I am looking at looks good only because of the paint job.

Agreed!

And Jake, I feel that way about models I haven't seen unpainted, but since I know what these look like unpainted, a sweet painted version isn't an issue for me

Looking at the close-ups we have seen of the Predator and Marine, I don't think the detail level is going to be a factor. This just seems to me like a rather special paintjob, and whoever is doing the painting for them showing off their abilities!

May is the stated goal of release.

The bloke (I'm assuming) they have painting these is one talented bastard. The secondary mouth on the alien looks a bit like a club to me, theres not alot of definition going on there.

I'm not sure what part of what I posted is confusing. I've seen companies hide poorly detailed figures with really good painting that added detail that is not present. I may have missed the nice close up pictures of the unpainted Alien figures showing the actual detail. All the pictures of the Aliens I remember were not really close ups.

The green grid worries you? That is a detail that someone painted on. How is that suspicious? That's like the artist painting camp on a marine and you being suspicious because there were not any camp patterning on the model prior to painting.

Camo not camp. On my phone.

His point was that a good artist can make a mediocre figure look great (as well as hide a figure's flaws), with some strategically painted on detail.

That is not saying that particular figure is bad in any way, just that if that figure did possess any flaws, we wouldn't be able see them due to the excellent paint job and added detail.

I think a side by side comparison picture of an unpainted and painted figure (before and after) would be a great way of showcasing a figure's sculpt.

You know, I get it. My opinion differs from yours.

Again, I have seen figure makers disguise lack of detail with painting that adds detail that is not there. The painter who did these particular figures is clearly of the ability to do this.

Your example is not close to what I am talking about. Change 'camo' to 'wrinkles and pockets on the uniform' and you come closer. I've seen pictures of figures where the painter added detail like fingers and knuckles when the actual figure had hands like mittens for example. Fantastic paint work made a very mediocre figure look spectacular.

Bluntly, I would very much prefer close up well focused detail pictures of the unpainted figure, maybe with a light wash added to show details sculpted onto the figure. Pictures of painted figures are good too, but only if I can compare the painted figure to the unpainted figure.

Yes! A thousand times yes! A very good example of this is MAS HDF western buildings that look glorious in all their wood grain detail and then you realize basically everything is painted on. A superb painter can make anything look good. If a nicely painted up figure is the draw, a good photo of the raw figure is what sells it for me at least.

Here's a good example:

Note the back pockets on the jeans. Those pockets are not on the model, but you'd be hard pressed to guess looking at the paint job.

I am not disputing your opinion just trying to get a clearer reason about the issue. If the issue is you don't trust the model based upon the level of painted detail, it just strikes me as odd. The wound and camo comparison is how I saw your issue based on the limited information I had. Mostly because I have seen pictures of the unpainted model and I guess I assumed you might have as well, despite not having evidence of you stating so. I have pictures of models I personally own from Prodos if you would like to see the level of detail they have provided for their other range... though I know that is definitely not the same as having alien models... I trusted a company to have good quality models not.long ago..... then bought models in their range and they turned out to be horrrrrrible.

Kind of negates a large part of your premise.
