Not just the orks. They're all quite obviously digitally painted. And 4 of the martian guys have the same two bases, just flipped horizontally.

I do like the look of the orky guys and the wolf riders. Martians have some odd proportions, although that might be just the posing.

But renders aren't miniatures.

Well anyone stateside still looking for a copy of the game miniaturemarket.com got a restock of it recently. Their brick and mortar store is 2 miles from my house and a frequent stop of mine as they discount heavily the dinged and dented boxed goods. I grabbed the core box for 60% off because of a corner ding. Haven't had a chance to check everything out but the only internal damage was a bit of damage to the protective cardboard trim around the card stock tiles.

The dropship looks awful it's shorter and fatter than it should be with additional unnecessary surface detail that does nothing for the sculpt.

I thought it looked a bit off, but figured it might be the angle of the picture. Also seems a bit small when you look at the pilots and consider an APC needs to fit in there.

Anyway, for that price and even with my coupon, I wouldn't be buying it anyway.

Space Wolves riding giant wolves was stupid even for wh40k but at least there a Thunderwolf is an existing animal. Wolfbanes riding giant wolves is such idiocy that it exceeds even Prodos standards of stupidity and fluff butchery.

Am I wrong in thinking, at a glance, this barely resembles the original fluff, and game?

I haven't seriously looked into it, mostly because no one remotely near me is playing, but I loved the original fiction of this universe. Looking at these thread though, I barely recognize anything from Warzone/Mutant Chronicles.

Does the game at least play like its predecessor?

Those 'dinos' were ones of many animals bioengineered to seed Venus jungles with life. Tell me where in fluff do you have giant wolves?

Wolves bio-engineered to live where ever Strathgordon is.

I'm not a fan of them either but its not as if they don't fit in with the existing fluff.

The fluff hasn't significantly changed from 2nd ed (at least as far as I can remember) although there have obviously been additions and minor changes. As for game mechanics I never actually got to play 2nd ed so I can't really answer that one.

Strathgordon is on Mars. It is an Imperial stronghold on planet that belongs to Capitol and these wolves are Imperial so it is very unlikely that they would be bio-engineered to live there during terraforming time [and now Imperial for sure has no tech to do that].

Well they have obviously come from somewhere. Mars doesn't belong to Capitol, they just happen to control most of its surface. Bauhaus, Imperial and Mishima have their own interests and territory there as well.

I meant that it belonged to Capitol before Imperials and other attacked and took some land for themselves. As to the wolves they obviously came from somewhere - from Prodos. Never existed before in fluff.

There are other pictures. Click the link. It's thick, stubby and covered in mahoosive rivets. It looks like it's for sending space marines in against genestealers, not colonial marines against xenomorphs.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Right, they never existed in the fluff up until now but it's their prerogative to add things to the fluff. The Dinoriders didn't exist in the Doomtrooper CCG (at least not the core set and Inquisition), nor did they exist in the 1st or 2nd edition of the RPG. I'm reasonably sure they didn't exist in Warzone until 2nd edition either.. (although there were people riding around on giant cats in Dark Eden IIRC). So at some point, these things had to be added to the fluff.. and since we already have a precedent for warriors riding into battle on animals (big cats, dinos, kunshu dragons and horses, oh my!) it's entirely in keeping.

Yes, 'dinoriders' are from 2nd edition. Animals from Dark Eden were mutated Earth animals. Kunshu [another Prodos 'invention' - fire spitting, flying lizards with fish tails] are as stupid as wolves. And why wolves had to be added? Just because there are other mounts [btw there are already Imperial 'wolf mounts' for Wolfbanes - they are called Fenris bikes]? One of that Xzibit jokes comes to mind: Yo dawg, I heard you like wolves, so we put wolves on wolves.

The digital painting is just getting silly. The detail on those Banshees has been made almost completely incoherent.

My guess on the chibi proportions is that it's because if they tried to make in the same scale as the movie prop it'd be something like 4' long

The Digital painting of renders or miniatures pictures is a new level of mediocrity! Sorry to be blunt but this pisses me off because:

a) Completely changes the surface/ volumes and details of the actual miniature so effectively its not showing what you get.

b) Assumes that this pixel amateur manipulation is the same thing as a commission painter work which is SO OFF mark its not even funny, its like giving the finger to the hobby and what it stands for.

c) Its totally unnecessary and makes what could actually be a good sculpt something like a digital illustration, guess what I'm not buying images!

Someone at Prodos should definitely get some grips and move away from enforcing stupid ideas I suspect its the same bloke that thought boobs on termis is kewl.

If they are paying somebody to do the digital painting I'll agree it's daft (I'd far prefer an unpainted casts, and then a professionally painted one if they want to show it off to best effect)

but it might well be that it's being done by one of them or their sculptors (as part of the design) in which case saving the money to get something pro painted (as they still haven't finished the AvP shipping) is a smart move.

Getting a professional who can actually paint well (as opposed to an ebay-pro-painter) isn't cheap and takes time

Unpainted model pictures would be much more informative to the consumer than the current nonsense.
I'm sure there's at least one good painter in Poland who could paint for them at a decent rate for the exposure alone.

You can like the IP /game but not like what is being done to it by the current owner or licensee. As far as I know, liking a gaming company has never been a prerequisite for posting in a thread here. If you feel a post violates the rules, don't pretend to be a mod yourself but rather alert a real one via the handy dandy triangles located on the top right of every post.

Could not word it better, thanks Warboss
Johanxp: To your info I am WZ/MC fan since 96 and you have no idea how excited I was when I heard news about new edition. I was one of WZR KS backers. I was contacted by Mark Rapson for help with Shadow Walker fluff and since then I spent countless hours helping Prodos with both fluff and rules [for example:togehter with Mark I co-founded Prodos proofers group, was one of 3 guys working on MCrpg minis' rules for WZR and many more]. I left in the moment I heard from Jarek that 'fluff is what they will do with it'. Results of that policy we see with almost every new release. WZ is being turned into weird amalgam of poor wh40k copy and generic, bland s-f. You can like it and you have every right to say that but also I have every right to express my displeasure with Prodos.
