Greetings Aspiring Dakkanauts, Veteran Dakkers, Little Dakkalings and Long-Toothed Dakka Old-Timers.

3T-Studios is my lil' terrain studio and we produce pieces that we take great pride in pushing to the limits of quality and detail. We haven't had a lot of presence online in the last year or two as we've been trying to catch up on a workload and juggle the big world with the little world.

But we haven't been inactive! We've had a commission queue a mile long that we're slowly chipping away at. We've completed some really amazing work for very patient clients and for public consumption. The eBay pieces get snapped up so fast I doubt anyone has had a chance to see them, so I wanted to showcase some of the things that have come and gone as well.

First item of business:

We were honored to be asked to produce a range of terrain pieces for a new game called Maelstrom's Edge, you may have heard of it!

Working with the terrain sprue was a lot of fun. The pieces are very detailed and make short work of planning a complex-looking sci-fi building from very simple card or foamcore shapes

We'll be publishing a detailed review and guide to how we made these structures this week on our Patreon page.

so what's this about Patreon now?

That's right, in order to be able to have the time to build guides, film videos, publish project logs and chat with our clients and fans, we need YOUR help to be able to give more back to the community.

With your support we will be able to continue to post updates on our website, here on Dakkadakka, and release videos and tutorials for all these amazing pieces.

My partner Mismuse and I have been hard at work putting together video guides and promotional material to make being a patron of the arts enjoyable and rewarding for everyone. PLUS THERE ARE PRIZES! No better time to jump in for the August drawings while the odds are in your favor! Every month we will be holding drawings based on the pledge levels, in addition to our exclusive content, and guides to helping anyone, of any skill level, learn to make the most amazing and dramatic terrain they can think of.

For the price of a starbucks coffee every month you can call yourself: "A Patron of The Arts." and see the slew of exclusive videos we're uploading. Mismuse is a machine at producing these things. (And she has very pretty hands. Seriously, it's like watching some kind of finger gymnastics watching her work.)

Now back to pictures of neat things.

I'm going to keep dumping really cool pictures in this thread and nothing you can say or do will stop me.

Very cool. Great to see terrain work.

I have to build an old high way overpass in disrepair./ partially collapsed. If you have any tips or links on this - that would be super.

That's something I've wanted to do for a while myself. I'm working on a couple of urban RoB boards right now, I may be able to convince the clients to go for a highway. If so I'll definitely post the process.

My first thought would be a lot of 1/2" foamcore, which you can get from craft stores. Cut the columns in layers sandwiched together and propped vertically. A heavy MDF base or weights would be a necessity or it will fall over as soon as someone puts some models on it. The roads could also be 1/2" foamcore. Look at a lot of pictures of real highways and after you get the basic shape glued together, lightweight spackle over it all and sand it smooth for a nice concrete texture.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE EMPEROR DON'T USE SPRAY TEXTURE.

Mismuse has been making so much amazing Ork terrain this season I could probably make a whole thread dedicated to it. I'm just dumping some of the highlights here.

This was supposed to be a barracks, in the end it came out more like a concentration camp. But we didn't feel it was appropriate to call it that and went with "prison camp" instead.

Those tan buildings remind me of 2nd Edition in a good way

We looooooove second edition Ork style. We pay homage to it as often as possible, but we also go totally ironclad-dakka-and-rivets-rock-n-roll death-orks too.

Definitely some of the best terrain I've ever seen . I especially like the Ork outpost built around the old imperial ruins,
it's such good idea, I wish I'd thought of it .

Jaw dropping stuff as always. I search for updates to your thread every month or two so it's good to see you back.

Hoping the patronification process goes we'll and looking forward to more tutorials. Your attention to convincing texture at scale has always been stunning and more info on your methods would be fantastic.

As it happens I made exactly that a few months ago. Very happy with how it turned out. Check out the first link in my sig.

We're rebuilding a lot of our tutorials, that hill guide is far too "2012" for my tastes! There's so much more I want to go over and share, things I've learned while out on the frontlines, new techniques and principles for becoming a master of the ancient techniques of Barkcrafting, Spacklewielding and Gluespraying. Also we think it should be in video form. Stay tuned for that in August.

As for medieval, we really should make more. I haven't had much opportunity recently, but here's one piece we did, a High Elf/Wizard's tower.

(Rare outdoors shot, because we had issues with the height of the piece and our backdrops.)

I would love to make a whole set to this theme with tall roofs and ornate balconies and bridges.

it's Steve!

And he has a lot more adventures in store. I used to desperately want to change him out and make new models for the terrain, but between him and Binky the Ork, we've grown fond of our lil' guys.

Apologies to Steve and good luck to him on his next adventure

And Binky as well, wouldn't want them to think I have a favourite.

As others have said, all your stuff is really first-rate. As an Ork modeler/player, of course I am most drawn to those great greenskin buildings.

One request: you mentioned changing out your photo tutorials for videos. I'm really a huge fan of the photo format because as a father of three (newborn, 2, and 4), I find it a lot easier to look at photos and text on my tablet with a baby sleeping on me (such as right now) or while the kids watch a movie or while laying in bed at night next to the wife. Videos may be great for folks with lots of dedicated hobby time, but if I have 30 minutes totally to myself, that rare time needs to be spent painting or gluing! Tutorials and Dakka-browsing are things I need to be able to do while multi-masking! In short, consider this one vote for photo tutorials.

Keep up the amazing work. Your terrain inspires me and sparks my imagination in the way that GW artwork used to, before it just became drawings and photos of existing models. Your stuff fills some of that void of what the rest of the 40k universe looks like and sucks me into the setting. Thanks for that.

Oh, don't worry we're keeping a number of photo tutorials as well, I take great enjoyment from picture guides as well. With our videos we're expanding into areas that we haven't had a chance to cover. showing techniques that may be hard or impossible to accurately convey through still pictures, such as our painting technique, the literal angles in which we approach problems, etc. The photo hill tutorial is going to get a major update and facelift as well, but the heart of the content is not going to change. Thank you for the great words and keep watching Dakka for updates as we get more and more support
