Why are the models so expensive? Are they terminator sized?

They're very slightly bigger than Blood Reavers and that's because of the armour.

Unless Im missing something that whole Fotress costs more than $1,000 USD if you buy each individual piece sepeseparately. Thats madness even for GW.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

There's a "Madness? This... is... SIGMAR!" joke in there somewhere.

Nice

As someone else said, GW's art direction lately has made it easy for me to make a clean break... it's like they take their own themes, and then double down / almost make a parody of them.

I think the market will bear out that they're going too outlandish / over the top... This pic is a great example of that:

Spoiler:

The model on the right is awesome and intimidating - it has style. The model on the left is an incredibly well executed piece of plastic injection molding engineering... but an army looking like that would just be silly, imo. I know it's likely a character, but the point stands - it's like the design studio has just gone for way too much of a good thing...

I love the new models. I was never a fan of all the chaos warriors looking identical.

8600 yen can net me nearly as many 1/144 Gundam kits as it can Blood Warriors if I shop around carefully. That's just plain crazy.

Thanks for the pic. I must say the new model looks amazing. It's not quite the aesthetic I like and I do much prefer the one on the right, but the left one is still amazing. I wonder if they'll make a kit for the other gods?

God I hope they redo the entire Chaos Space Marine line next.

But seriously GW's pricing has for the most part spiraled out of control. Im not going to lie, even with all the skull, that terrain looks pretty cool, but not cool enough to buy for the same price as a used car. This is why Recasters and other companies are getting more and more people turning to them.

But then Gundams are Japan's equivalent of Space Marines. They're popular and will sell very well.

I got my White Dwarf. HOLY CRAP. This Dreadfort is MASSIVE. I took some better pictures (just with a point and shoot... if you want nice glossies go buy the mag!) to share and give you an idea.

First telltale sign, look at how SMALL a bloodletter is (top right) compared to the overlord bastion.

Second, check this: a 32mm base is 75 pixels on this photo. The width from one side to the other (and it's not even through the center of the fort, which is wider), is 2720 pixels. 2720 / 75 * 32 /10 = 116cm / 2.54 = 46" !!

Spoiler:

The tile that sits the fort is 4 ft. wide, and won't fit it if you rotate the points of the star to its widest point. In other words, if you build Chaos Megaforticus, you will REALLY need a table that's at least 8x6, preferably 8x8 or 8x12. Because who makes a fort that's so big that there's no space for the people laying siege? So this is going to be a REALLY rare configuration. You need a massive play room to make this work!

The "little" towers are big too. Here's a better picture.

The wall sections are wedge shaped in a 3:2 ratio, meaning you can put 2 of them on opposite facings to make a straight wall, or face them the same way to make a rounded wall. By the way, the GW sculptor failed here, and did not put enough skulls in on the floor plate. Obviously.

Spoiler:

And really, my favorite part of the whole set. The stairs. These are great. I wish you could get these stairs without the chaos markings.

Spoiler:

Oh yes. There is also a photo with a sigmarite on the gangplank, and it's a perfect fit. The gangplank that connects the tower to the wall is 50mm. There are many, many great photos in this WD, including lots of the new blood warriors. You gotta love chaos though.

Random thoughts... I wonder how many liters of Carrroburg Crimson and Agrax Earthshde it would take to wash Megafort? If you painted it all with GW paint.... forget the price of the models... how much PAINT would it cost? LOL. How many years would it take to paint? KHRAZY!!! Ok, now that Fantasy got it's day in the sun, more 40k please. XENOS SCENERY FTW!!

That's what happens when you hire a chaotic architect.

Looks good. Won't be buying any as it doesn't fit any of the table themes I'm chasing right now.

Do we know if it's plastic or the china cast resin-y stuff.

I know I am in the minority, but I think the chaos stuff looks... well... ridiculous. Overdone. Something that you'd see in a modern 'Masters of the Universe" kit or something. Sure, it's Chaos, but that set will not let you forget. Ever.

Which, in a way, is a good thing for my wallet. I am happy for those Chaos players who are jazzed about it, though.

I've bought all the non-Chaos Sigmar terrain, and all of it has been plastic... from China. Ophidian Archway is even on sprues, just like Cities of Death. It is not resin-y at all. I suspect in the future, all terrain will be from China.

The quality of all the previous pieces have been excellent (better than the old Fantasy terrain in terms of stuff matching up, quality of tooling, etc). It's quite possible that the molds are made in Nottingham, and the plastic is just cast in China.

I agree completely. Each new release for AoS has been worse than the last, and this just takes the cake. The weird offspring of a metal album cover and a Fisher Price castle toy, at an absolutely devastating price. Who exactly is this aimed at? Is it some sort of aspirational item?
