So I have about $900 worth of Necrons collecting dust because I like the fluff and idea of the army but it has not faired well from 5th edition. Not only are they not so good now, but the rules are just confusing. Yeah I have seen the FAQ and get how it's supposed to go, but it's all really a big cluster that everyone kind of just shrugs their shoulders at. So while I'm waiting for hell to freeze over and a new Dex comes out I want to make a quick and dirty way to play Necrons fairly in 5th ed. I do enjoy them but i don't want anything that's too good or too bad, just something good and fair, and most of all, easily understood. So here is my quick fix proposal

Phasout is removed from the rules.
All none swarm and monsterous creatures in the codex gain feel no pain.
The req orb allows feel no pain rolls when you wouldn't normally get them. (ie pwer wpn, AP1 or 2)
The tombspider aura counts as a rez orb and if you're in range of both then you get a +1 to your FNP roll.
Gauss weapons count as rending.
The monolith can pull any Non swarm non monsterous creature thru it, but it just moves them it does not grant any re-rolls or anything.

That's pretty much it. It gives them a bump in spots and they take a hit in others. Yeah overall it helps them out but compared to newer books I think it is still very fair and it would use USR instead of weird custom stuff that everyone hates.

What are your thought?

I only trade in US thanks.

if you didn't use such bad language (WTF does Pwer mean?) I'd agree with you.

Phaseout I can't help
Why?
Why?
OP.
No. they're fine being able to glance on a 6. that's freaking awesome.
No.

Why FNP? WBB is much better then FNP. it means everyone gets a (generally) 3+/4+ that's waaay to good at T4 for basic troops.

Necrons = Awesome Space marines, with a primitive 'dex.

Necrons should be updated.

Gauss as rending, no. That's over powered. Being able to glance any vehicle on a 6 is good, not great like in 4th ed but you can still prevent Leman Russes from firing if just one shot glances. Let's look: (18 models assumed for easy math)

18 unit necron squad = 18 shots
18 shots = 12 hits
12 hits = 2 6's

So you're getting at least 1 glance per 9 necrons (statistically) which means that at the least the vehicle can't shoot (Aside PoMS and monolith) that is a great defense mechanism against armored lists.

I don't know if this would be fair or not but giving all necrons relentless or something akin to Tau battlesuit so they can shoot at 24" more often. I haven't played against/as necrons so I'm unsure how the rapid fire range aspect affects them.

Hows this then:

Rending, but they count as AP - if they score a Glance or Pen because of the Extra D3?

Nah, don't need rending on Gauss, keep it as is. Just give everyone tank hunter. Repairs the nerf that was done to necrons with the unified vehicle damage table and -2 to glancing. With tank hunter they'll have an effective -1 instead of -2, so will be effective against vehicles again. And that way you're fixing it with a USR. And then you don't need exceptions for when your shooting at anything thats not a vehicle, your not getting any extra AP, no chances to bypass terminators 2+ armor, etc.

I do agree phase out should be gotten rid of, or, if not, then the army should be made stubborn.

WBB and stubborn works fine. If not stubborn then FNP so that they can survive combat a bit better. Most of the damage that phases out a necron is the sweeping advance, if you didn't get swept away, a lot of downed crons would stand back up, particularly if you had a monolith handy.

Keep monolith as is. While I wouldn't mind adding the ability to pull pariahs through it, keeping as is is fine (the OPs suggestion doesn't restrict them from going through the monolith). But keeping the reroll is a big survival bit for the crons. Until a new codex comes out, they need the help.

Errm, Tank hunters doesn't do what you think it does. I'd have a re-read of the Rules if I were you.

Don't have them handy, thought it gave +1 to the roll on the chart.

And like I said, it doesn't do what you think it does

The bonus is to penetrate, not to the damage chart roll.

WBB is decent, but here's what FNP does for you:

Combat resolution.

FNP takes effect immediately, and any successful saves don't count as a casualty for combat. Necron's current problem is that they can be charged by orks, lose combat by 7, and lose the remaining 13 warriors to a sweeping advance. FNP helps to mitigate that.

Necrons used to be fearless. I think that fits their fluff better, though the idea that they could make a tactical withdrawal if their programming called for it in a given situation is a good one. Perhaps they'll get something unique - Fearlessness, with an option to automatically fall back in situations that would cause a morale check.

Stubborn could also be a quick fix. Stubborn Ld 10 would be hard to crack in one go.

And honstly I think these changes would go a LONG way to fixing the necron problems. Some unit fixes here and there like points costs, Pariah stats and point cost, and unit variety would be good.

At the risk of annoyign SM players....wouldn't ATSKNF make sense for necrons as well? They auto- regroupand can choose to fall back.

Fearless doesn't seem to rign wuite true for necrons. they are not bloodthirsty savages, they are cold and heartless. ideally i woudl think stubborn woudl work but that is a bit too tough and also not very necron as it woudl make them stay in CC - not their strong suit

So would ATSKNF, but they'd take fearless wounds when they were caught, which would happen all the time.
